Federal Polytechnic Nekede Deploys Turnitin Software To Check Plagiarism,Emerges First Polytechnic In Eastern Nigeria To Do So

Federal Polytechnic Nekede has acquired a special software called Turnitin to check incidences of plagiarism bedeviling the academia. This development, according to officials of the software company, has effectively made the institution the first Polytechnic East of the Niger that has so deployed the technology which can detect academic fraud within five minutes.

Meanwhile, the digital Rector of Federal Polytechnic Nekede, Engr. Dr. Michael Arimanwa FNSE, JP, has expressed the commitment of his institution to bequeath a culture of excellence and integrity through the deployment of the anti-plagiarism software, Turnitin.

The Rector made this remark Wednesday at a seminar organized for members of the Anti-Plagiarism Committee of the polytechnic held at the council chambers. The successful deployment of the software, according to the poly chief, is in consonance with the culture of excellence which his administration has enthroned in the running of the polytechnic.

According to the award-winning Rector, “The idea of the software is to check all forms of dishonesty in publications and intellectual enterprise. It will contain the recurrence of intellectual theft amongst academics. The software is also programmed to identify the source of any copied work with the aim of exposing the people involved.”

To this end, the polytechnic chief executive has advocated the setting up of an institutional repository to contain the published works of lecturers in the institution. This, according to the Rector, will make it easy for scholars to put their works online to test or protect their integrity.

The Rector used the occasion to condemn the menace of plagiarism which he identified as a factor undermining hard work amongst scholars. He cited the case of a certain Reader in a university whose papers failed the anti-plagiarism test, prompting the university to demote him to the rank of lecturer I, in addition to his forfeiting promotion for five years after the said event. He therefore warned that lecturers must imbibe the culture of hardwork so as not to be caught in the web of plagiarism.

Moving forward, the Rector hinted that all lecturers would soon be required to send digital copies of their works so that they could be published online.

He also promised to deploy the Turnitin software in the areas of continuing education and distance learning. “This will enable people who cannot leave their locations at any material time to receive lectures while some distance away,” the Rector concluded.

Rector Arimanwa also enjoined members of the committee to work hard so that they would in turn train others in the community. He thanked them for their commitment over the years to the anti-plagiarism fight, promising henceforth to deploy the technology on any work that would be sent for external assessment.

The climax of the ceremony was the formal presentation of the evidence of the anti-plagiarism software registration to the Rector by the Polytechnic Librarian, Dr. Chris Enyia, who also expressed joy that the institution had successfully subscribed to the latest version of the software, thanking the Rector for his noble vision in repositioning the polytechnic for excellent strides.

It is noteworthy that the Turnitin software aims at ensuring integrity in global education in order to improve learning outcomes. Records show that over 90% of performing universities globally have deployed the software.

Remarkably, Federal Polytechnic Nekede is the first polytechnic in Eastern Nigeria (southsouth and southeast) to deploy the technology and the third in Nigeria after Yaba College of Technology and Federal Polytechnic Ede.

Arondizuogu In History For Culture, Tradition And Tourism

Arondizuogu was founded by the use of force by Mazi Izuogu Mgbokpo and his brothers (Iheme) in the mid-14th century. Izuogu Mgbokpo was a charismatic slave merchant who came from Arochukwu to Ọka in search of slaves. He was usually harbored by a friend from Umualaoma where he slept when going in search of slaves and with his goods (slaves).

Some of the slaves of Izuogu maintained the name even after they were freed from captivity. Izuogu Mgbokpo has three children and three brothers. The children were Uche (Ndi Uche whose mother was from Isiekenesii), Awa (Ndiawa)and Amazu (Ndiamazu).

While the brothers were Imoko (Ndi-imoko), Njoku (Ndi-Njoku) and Akame (Ndi-akaeme). Others are aborigines such as Ogbuonyeoma, Amankwu, Ekwuru Iheme, himself, was his Chief Servant and he came from Isi-Akpu Nise, in Ọka.

Iheme and his master Izuogu used all the weapons at their disposal, including the slaves, juju, guns and other equipments for securing slaves which they sold to the European slave merchants, Arondizuogu people refer to themselves as “Izuogu na Iheme”.

Early in the 19th century, Mazi Okoli Idozuka was an immigrant from Isi-Akpu Nise to Arondizuogu. As a great slave warrior, he expanded Arondizuogu’s boundaries. He later changed his name to Okoro Idozuka, an Aro equivalent of his former name. He was a wealthy ruthless and almost conscienceless slave trader like Izuogu Mgbokpo but was also a great leader. Nwankwo Okoro was the first son of Okoro Idozuka. At the age of 21 he joined his father in the slave trade. ] By collecting slaves and war-captives he was able to build a very large family.

When the British came, they made him a Warrant Chief because they believed he could subdue anybody and collect the taxes they desperately needed form them. Until this day, Arondizuogu is the biggest former Aro colony and a land of immigrants settling mainly on the rich land.

Some Places of Interest in Arondizuogu include Mazi Mbonu Ojike Cottage (Village home of Nigeria’s late “Boycott king”), Mazi Mbonu Ojike at Ndiakeme Uno; Uno Ogologo (a safe house built in 1887 for hiding children during the slave trade era); The Stone Palace (a storey building cast in stone erected by late Chief Green Mbadiwe, West Africa’s first millionaire for his father, Umualaoma Nkwo Ochie (old Nkwo).

Mbadiwe Odum at Ndianiche Uno; Ngeze (legendary stream at Ndiakeme Uno); Ogbuti Ezumezu (exotic visitor’s chamber of Ikeji music maestro Pericoma Okoye at Ndiogbuonyeoma Ofe Imo). Dr. K.O. Mbadiwe at Ndianiche Uno commissioned by late Prime minister, Alhaji Tafawa Balewa in 1965).Obi Omenuko, homestead of Igwegbe Odum (Omenuko), the hero of Pita Nwana’s book.

Ndi izuogu lives in many local government areas in Imo State. Although they have almost the same dialect with the group of Igbos in Anambra state, apart from Ndi Uche (descendants of the first son of Izuogu) that still retain a slightly different language as they live at the border to protect other members of the clan. Their language is slightly affected by their neighbours. It is remarkable that Arondizuogu is the only community that inhabits three local government areas apart from Mbaise. The local Government they inhabit include Okigwe, Ideato North and Onuimo.

Arondizuogu is made up of 20 villages.

Pericoma The Pride Of Igbo Culture

Pericoma Okoye was a singer, songwriter and traditionist. He was predominantly known throughout Igboland for his style of music and strong belief and practice of the traditional religion of the Igbo people, named Obeah.His title was ‘Arusi Makaja’ he allegedly performed several feats which defied several rules of physics. A good percentage of the people from Arondizuogu, his community, saw him as a little god. Several displays of “supernatural powers” or “sorcery” as it was often tagged, and back-to-back victories in contests, earned him the alias “Lion of Africa” He featured in a movie titled Lion Of Africa alongside Nollywood Legend, Pete Edochie. The movie, which was in two parts, was a biography of his early life. He is the father of internet personality and musician Speed Darlington.On one faithful day on his way to Onitsha, he was waylaid by tax collectors at the then notorious Upper Iweka. These tax collectors, not knowing who he was, demanded for his tax receipts, but he ignored them.
One of the thugs lifted him up, placed him on his shoulders, and carried him to their office. He did not utter a word nor complained. On the way, he suddenly became too heavy such that the guys who carried him wanted to put him down, but he could not. For several hours they begged him to come down but he refused, and insisted that the gods must be appeased for him to come down. He made several requests which included certain amount of money. His requests were all provided and he majestically came down from the guy’s shoulder after several hours. This brought about the popular saying “Pericoma na anyị ajọ alo” That incident was said to have put an end to the menace of illegal tax collectors at Upper Iweka. He was prime minister of the Arondizogu community in Imo state until his death in 2017.May he continue to rest in Power ✊

Nnamdi Kanu: Appeal Court Reserves Judgment, Adjourns Indefinitely

The Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory on Tuesday, has reserved judgment on the case against the detained leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu.

Human rights Lawyer, Mike Ozekhome (SAN), who led the delegation of legal practitioners representing the IPOB leader, urged the court to strike out the remaining charges citing a lack of credibility.

Ozekhome specifically prayed the appellate court to review the April 8 ruling of the trial court which struck out only eight out of the 15 charges.

He also insisted that the charge FG entered against him had no basis in law. Kanu, in his appeal dated April 29 and marked CA/ABJ/CR/625/2022, applied to be discharged and acquitted.

However, following an application the embattled IPOB leader filed for abridgement of time, the appellate court brought the matter forward for hearing as against the initial October 11 fixed for the hearing.

When the matter was called up today, a three-man panel led by Justice Jummai Hanatu, said it had no need to delve into the issue of bail since the substantive appeal was ripe for hearing.

Arguing the appeal claim, Ozekhome alleged that his client was forcefully abducted from Kenya and illegally renditioned back to the country.

He told the court that his client was first arraigned on December 23, 2015 and was later granted bail on April 25, 2017.

“My lords, he was enjoying this bail without breaching the terms. However, he was in his ancestral home when agents of the respondent invaded his home in September 2017.

“When the Appellant travelled from London to Kenya, agents of the respondents, on June 27, 2021, forcefully abducted the appellant, tortured and renditioned him back to the country without following any extradition process,” Ozekhome added

He further argued that Kenya, being the country from where Kanu was arrested and extraordinarily renditioned back to Nigeria, ought to have authorised his extradition.

Meanwhile, the FG, through its lawyer, Mr. David Kaswe, urged the court to dismiss the appeal for want of merit.

He asserted that the IPOB leader was brought back to the country by due process of the law.

He argued that the charge had been amended seven times owing to the conduct of the appellant.

“My lords, it took four years and huge resources to get the respondent arrested and brought back to face the charges against him.

“We are saying that the trial court was even wrong to have struck out the eight charges as it did.

“It is only after the FG has produced all its witnesses and tendered its evidence that the Appellant could claim that no prima-facie case was established.

“Finally, we urge this court to dismiss the appeal for lacking in merit,” Kaswe added.

After listening to both sides, the panel said it would communicate a date for the judgment.

Sonia, the daughter of former Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, has begged members of the public to donate kidney to her.

The young woman, whose parents are currently facing charges of organ harvesting in the United Kingdom, took to her Instagram page on Monday to make the plea.

She said, “I, Sonia Ekweremadu, hereby appeal to the general public to come to my aid and save my life.

“I dropped out of my postgraduate studies at the University of Newcastle in 2019 when I was diagnosed with a rare kidney disease, FSGS Nephrotic Syndome. My family has battled to save my life and has taken me to various hospital but the illness persisted and kept degenerating. I’m alive today by the special grace of God. I am presently in London, UK, receiving five hours of dialysis 3-4 times a week. This is at the expense of my family as I am not qualified for NHS due to m immigration status.

“The charges being faced by my parents in London presently are directly connected to my illness and have complicated matters for me and my family.

“In the circumstance above. I am appealing to anybody whom it may please to asset e willingly with a kidney donation in the name of God.”

The Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike, has blasted his predecessor, Rotimi Amaechi, over his comments at the burial of four-time federal minister, Alabo Tamunotenyim Omubo Graham-Douglas (TOG).

Amaechi at the burial over the weekend knocked Wike for not taking responsibility for Alabo’s burial. He said, “Indeed going by the contributions he made to the state, I was thinking that the state would take responsibility for everything concerning Alabo. You don’t need to be Governor to be recognised.”

Reacting to Amaechi, the Rivers governor said, “It’s unfortunate and I ask him, when Alabo was sick, where were you? This state government committed so much to make sure Alabo survived. I want to challenge anybody. We didn’t spend anything less than N50 million to make sure our elder statesman survived. It is the survival we want. We wanted him to be alive.

“When his late son had an accident and was flown to London, this state government bore the cost. Go and ask people. We don’t need to say all these things but you like to eulogise the dead.”

Uzodimma Warns Priests Against Partisan Politics

The Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodimma, on Sunday asked Catholic bishops and archbishops to order priests converting pulpits to campaign grounds to stop.

The governor also urged the clerics to caution priests who make inciting statements on the pulpits to refrain from doing so.

The governor who spoke in his address at the opening ceremony of the 2022 Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria held in Orlu asked the prelates to use the opportunity of the conference to reaffirm the neutrality of the Church.

Uzodiinma said while he was not against the members of the clergy speaking against social ills and criticising the governments, clerics shouldn’t dabble in politics.

The governor said, “Your Graces and Lordships, permit me to also point out, with every sense of responsibility, that I do not think it is right for some members of the clergy to convert God’s house and the pulpit to the soap box for campaigns for their preferred candidates or parties in an election season or anytime in the election cycle.

“Sadly, this has become the norm in many of our churches. My worry is that if the church drags itself into partisan politics, then it would have lost its moral authority to pontificate because it has made itself an interested party.

“Indeed, the church cannot be in the moral pedestal to preach against certain conducts of the society if it has not gone through purification by purging itself of those who are diminishing its authority. I believe that true sanctification can only come when the church presents itself as a living testament of good, impartial and temperate conduct. It is my sincere hope that one of your resolutions from this conference will be to condemn members of the clergy who use their positions and the church for political ends.

“In the same vein, some priests under your watch have through inciting sermons also taken it upon themselves to inflame passions, instead of abating them. In addition, I have noticed with dismay that some members of the clergy have also become open canvassers for separatism and secession. Sadly, they also use the sacred pulpit to do this. This should not be the case. The need for the church to remain on high moral standards includes abstaining from fiery comments that seem to highlight and promote our differences rather than on the things that unite us.

“This conference is holding today because Nigeria, though beset by insecurity in some parts, is not in a state of war. No matter the imperfections of our republic and democracy, we are still better off in a united country.

“To the glory of God, we have an increasing number of political leaders who are committed to addressing these imperfections, especially as it concerns equity and justice, so we can build the perfect nation we all desire. And I can assure you that it is only a matter of time before this is achieved, On their part, Church leaders should continue to promote the unity of the country and not its division.

“I wholly understand that priests have the right and duty to hold our leaders and governments accountable, and nobody will ever stop a priest from condemning the ills in the society, including bad governance and corruption. My position should not be misinterpreted as an attempt to rob them of this moral authority that they have enjoyed since the beginning of time.

“I, therefore, appeal to your Graces and Lordships to bring up these concerns of mine in the course of your deliberations during the conference. It is important that you reaffirm the church’s neutrality on political matters and, thereafter, caution the priests not to dabble into partisan politics. Above all, they should also desist from fanning the embers of disunity in the country.

“Your Excellencies, as a baptised Catholic, I have every respect not only for the Church but for the priests and the entire leadership. As my spiritual fathers, I draw a lot of inspiration from you, individually and collectively. Thus, I would be sad to witness anything that tends to weaken or erode your authority and reverence.

“I am sure that the current leadership of the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria will work harder to strengthen its arms to make them responsive to the yearnings of the faithful. Going by your programmes, I am also hopeful that you will address some of the contending and contemporary issues in our country today. As always, I have no doubt that your goal is to make Nigeria a better place not only for Catholics but for every Nigerian.”

Transformation Of Widow, Tied, Flogged Over Witchcraft Allegation

Human rights activist Harrison Gwamnishu, has shared new photos, video of the widow, Amarachi Okechi, who was beaten and accused of being a witch after the death of her husband.

Gwamnishu posted a video of the woman getting a makeover on his Instagram page on Friday, saying that he had taken her to his house in Asaba, Delta State after she left the hospital so she could be away from her abusers.

He wrote, “The widow they called a witch, tied and beaten. What more can I say than thank you God for using this platform for humanity. After Mrs. Amarachi left the hospital, she couldn’t go back to her community because of her abusers and she was also traumatised.

“I instructed them to bring her to my house in Asaba, Delta State. She needed to heal from her past and I offered to be her son and took the burden. I will continue to support and use my platform to protect vulnerable widows and I urge everyone to do the same.”

Okechi was beaten by some residents of Umueghu in Amaegbuato autonomous community in the Nkpa Bende Local Government Area of Abia State for allegedly being a witch.

Anambra state Government has disowned Augustine Chukwuezugo Ndigwe, the self aclaimed Uzu Awka for parading himself as the authentic Traditional Ruler of Awka.

In a statement made public by the state Commissioner for Information, Sir Paul Nwosu, the Government noted that there is none other traditional ruler of Awka than Igwe Obi Gibson Nwosu.

It said, “it has come to the attention of Anambra State Government that one Augustin Chukwuezugo Ndigwe alias Uzu Awka is still parading himself as the authentic traditional ruler of Awka.

“Not only that, he is also taking steps to perform one of the major harvest season’s traditional rites known as New Yam Festival or “Iwa ji” of the Awka people, thereby threatening the peace and tranquility of the town. The State Government will not tolerate this.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the State Government wishes to state emphatically that the only recognized Traditional Ruler of Awka is His Royal Highness, Igwe Obi Gibson Nwosu, Eze Uzu II of Awka whose recognition by the State Government has not been withdrawn and he is the only one empowered by section 15 of the Traditional Rulers Law of Anambra State 2007 to preside over such festivals or carry out any of the functions of a traditional ruler in Awka.

“It is a criminal offence for any other person to do so by virtue of section 20 of the Traditional Rulers Law of Anambra State 2007”.

The Government, by the release noted that Augustin Ndigwe is not the recognized Traditional ruler of Awka and should without delay desist from parading and portraying himself as the Traditional Ruler of Awka or attempting to usurp the rights of the legitimate and duly recognized Traditional Ruler, His Royal Highness, Igwe Obi Gibson Nwosu.

“Any such unlawful act in any part of Anambra State would not be condoned by the Anambra State Government and the State will not hesistate to sanction the impostor according to the relevant laws of Anambra State.” (MOI)

Skeleton Of A Dead Person Found After Four (4) Years

Resident in shock as remnants of a decomposed body of a man were reportedly found in the bedroom of his house after four years in Apete, Ibadan.

It was learnt that the deceased (unknown identity) was reportedly seen by neighbours four years ago during one of his occasional trip to Ibadan from Port Harcourt in Rivers State where he resides at the time.

As at the time of filing this report, the cause of death is yet to be ascertained.

Residents told newsmen that non of the residents in the area knew about the incident until this week when the community decided to enter into the compound to cut the overgrown grass inside his compound which has become a haven for snakes and rodents.

It was gathered that the Abokis who was contracted for the job of cutting the grass in the deceased compound were told to jump into the compound since the gate of the house was locked from behind only for them to find out that the car of the house owner is in the premises and has been covered with grass.

According to eyewitnesses, after managing to cut down the bush, they peeped at the window of the building and saw the skeleton of the decomposed corpse on his bed with a phone in his hand.

Officers of the Oyo state police command are currently carrying out a comprehensive investigation into the incident.

U.S govt. agrees to reduce Hushpuppi’s sentence to 11yrs for helping detectives solve other criminal cases . . Prosecutors in the United States have asked a federal judge to sentence Ramon ‘Hushpuppi’ Abbas to 11 years in prison and three years of supervised release for his role in a multinational conspiracy that earned him millions of dollars between 2019 and 2020. . .

According to Peoples Gazette, American attorneys led by Khaldoun Shobaki in the U.S. Central District of California (Los Angeles) argued that Hushpuppi should also be asked to pay $1.7 million in restitution; $500K in fines and $100 in administrative fees, per recommendations submitted ahead of his sentencing on September 21. . .

The development came more than two years after the infamous Internet fr@ud ringleader was arrested in Dubai in June 2020 for driving multiple schemes that targeted victims in Europe and the United States. He pleaded guilty in April 2021 after prosecutors discovered his involvement in a separate conspiracy to defraud a Qatari businessperson, who lost $810K in the process of trying to obtain an elusive loan to set up an international school. .

The prosecutors argued that their sentencing recommendations were appropriate considering the gravity of Hushpuppi’s crimes. The government said one of his co-conspirators Ghaleb Alaumary was sentenced to 140 years in jail for violating the same set of criminal codes. . “By his own admission, during just an 18-month period defendant conspired to launder over $300 million,” the prosecutors said.

The government said Mr Abbas’ criminal path was premeditated, even though he had a clear chance to choose a rewarding career as a law-abiding citizen. . .

You are aware how more than three million of your kith and kin were slaughtered in a civil war they did not provoke. You are aware of the pogrom that preceded the civil war. You are aware of how billions of Pounds worth of Igbo assets were taken over by people who didn’t work for it. You are aware of the unending injustice being meted to the Igbo by the political class you serve. You are aware of how the Party you have recently become a major stakeholder in has exacerbated the marginalisation of the Southeast in the politics of this nation. You are aware of the power sharing understanding in Nigeria, that should have naturally conceded the presidency to the Igbo in 2023. You are aware that your Party and your former Party conspired to deny the Igbo of this opportunity, and even went ahead to ensure that they are further alienated from the power circle in the country. My governor, you are aware of these, and all you can say is that Igbos should go and make peace with Nigeria?

What you are saying in essence is that Ndigbo, who have been severally cheated, maligned, killed, robbed, blackmailed and victimised, are now the aggressors? Onwa, you have not disappointed me more before. I am ashamed and heartbroken that a man who should be a warrior and a leader is making himself appear like a helpless slave.

I understand that you might be a victim of blackmail by a Northern cabal who are holding you captive with some illicit favours they might have done you and might be promising to do for you in future, but I used to think of you as a smarter and more courageous power player. I would have expected you to dribble those guys the way you have been dribbling your friends at home, without unwittingly turning yourself to the public enemy Number One of your own people.

No matter what the insecure charlatans around you tell you about me, I should think that you know that I love you. And sometimes you act in ways that make me feel proud of you. I like it when you outwit your political opponents in the power chess board, and I admire the courage with which you have approached some of our challenges in the State, especially, insecurity and the dilapidated infrastructure you inherited. But, you seem to be a coward to your Northern masters. What do you owe them? What can they do to you?

I can tell that it is your overt reliance on them that has made you ignore the things you can do to earn your people’s love. You speak and act like Imo people don’t matter, like Igbos are irrelevant to you. Onwa, we will shock you. If you do not begin to quickly amend your ways with our people, you will become a persona non grata, and that is never my wish for you.

You will not be governor forever, I can assure you. You might think that you can use federal power to force your second term on us. And I assure you; be ready to kill all of us, and govern a desert. How do you aspire to continue ruling a people you don’t have any regard for? A people you scorn their pains? A people you see as conquered? Onwa, you have missed it, you have lost it and I sympathize with you.

Unfortunately, you are supposed to be one of the smartest leaders we have currently. But, is this how your smartness works? Is that how those before you exhibited their smartness? Didn’t you experience first hand, how Chief Arthur Nzeribe, the Oshiji, Damanze, Ogbuagu navigated through the power corridors, riding on the strength of his people, and never betrayed them? Did you ever hear him beg for acceptance or denounce his people in order to be accepted? Yet, he was accepted and he was valued.

Onwa Oyoko, you have betrayed your people, you have sold us off, and you will never be forgiven until you apologize and retrace your steps. How do you explain to millions of Igbos killed through starvation, through economic emasculation, through bullets and missiles, through blockades, that they are now the aggressors who needed to go and “make peace”? How do you explain to those mothers and sisters of ours raped and dehumsnized, that they were the aggressors who should go on their knees to apologize in order to be accepted?

Hey, Onwa Oyoko. I sympathize with you. May your chains be broken and may you see the light of freedom.

Go to Aso Rock again, ask them to call a meeting of all those who have told you what you said, then, tell them that they should guarantee peace in Nigeria by supporting justice, and the best way they can show themselves as being ready for justice is by giving the Southeast what is due to them. Injustice breeds crisis, and as long as any part of Nigeria continues to be relegated, maligned, scorned, then, trouble shall persist in Nigeria. That’s not a threat, it is an analysis of fact. Even Nature shall continue to be against a Nigeria where injustice is the rule.

But for his foresight and resilience in pursuing justice to a logical conclusion, most of the Southwest governors who give Bola Ahmed Tinubu credit for their emergence wouldn’t have made it to the governorship, even if they did, their stay would have been short-lived.

Peter Obi, an opposition politician in a State dominated by appointees and hitmen of the Party in power, persevered in his bid to preserve our democracy and strengthen our institutions. He pushed on against all odds, even when he could have gone behind to negotiate a favourable political settlement for himself. At the end, he became, I think, the first governor in Nigeria’s Fourth Republic to be restored by the courts, following, a tortuous journey through our courts and everything done to frustrate those legal tussles.

After securing his victory in the election tribunals, his stay in office was to be truncated on two separate occasions; one, as a result of a kangaroo impeachment sponsored by the People’s Democratic Party in order to throw him out of office. He went back to the trenches and had the courts reverse his illegal impeachment.

Just as he was about settling down to get to work, an illegitimate election was held to fill his seat with an Aso Rock anointed PDP candidate. Against every advice and seemingly insurmountable obstacles, the Agulu Anambra born self-made multibillionaire persevered, because he knew that both the law and God were on his side. Sixteen days after the illegal termination of his Constitutionally allowed term in office, the Supreme Court restored him to office.

Peter Obi’s victory ensured that the governors of Ekiti, Osun, Edo and Kogi did not only reclaim their victories in court, but also served their full Constitutional terms of four years. It goes without saying that had Peter Obi abandoned these legitimate legal struggles, our democracy would have still being on shaky sands and higher level of electoral impunity would have still persisted.

So, next time when you are giving credit to anyone or group of people for strengthening for our democracy and ensuring that people robbed of their mandates are given justice, do not forget to place Peter Obi on top of the log. We can’t truthfully discuss the struggles for the survival of the Fourth Republic without giving Peter Obi a prominent mention.

It is absolutely correct to say that without Peter Obi’s audacious struggles to reclaim his mandate and insist on his Constitutionally guaranteed tenure in office, ACN as a political Party wouldn’t have mustered the political clout and resources it did to survive until its merging with other small Parties to form the APC. It is not also out of place to believe that without Peter Obi’s successes, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu might be a member of the PDP today.

Beyond setting the groundwork for the overhaul of our electoral system through legislation and judicial reforms, Peter Obi also stands out as a model for rule of law and social justice. He epitomises resilience, civility and due process in the pursuit of justice. At no time during these struggles did he ever resort to self-help or encouraged his supporters to do so, he consciously pursued his convinction in line with the law.

How Peter Obi Will Win The Presidential Election With A Landslide

Hon Patrick Obahiagbon’s statement that Mr. Peter Obi of the Labour Party will not be able to muster the required 25% of votes in the 2023 elections may sound plausible, but I think the former lawmaker didn’t do a good analysis of the political situation in the country before making the statement credited.

Hon Obahiagbon most likely drew his conclusions from political realities of four months ago, when Peter Obi was still been dismissed as a candidate without structure. A keen and truthful follower of political developments in the last two months will agree that Peter Obi has risen from a third force candidate to the frontline candidate whom other candidates are running to meet up with his pace and acceptance across the country.

I am convinced, not because I support him, but as a result of my dispassionate analysis of recent political developments in the country. If we had a reliable pollster in Nigeria, it will be difficult not to agree that Peter Obi is the candidate to beat in this election. He is ahead, while other are struggling to catch up.

To win the presidency on first ballot, a candidate must not only score the highest number of votes cast in the election, but also secure at least 25% of votes in 24 States of the Federation.

In the last three presidential elections, the winner of the election has never scored more than 15 million votes. Considering that the 2023 election is presenting, for the first time in the 4th Republic, three strong contenders and a fourth outside chancer, it is expected that the number of winning votes may not be up to 15 million. Some pundits believe that any candidate who scores up to 12 million votes would have satisfied the first requirement for victory, which is scoring the highest number of votes cast.

Peter Obi has an unbreakable vote bank of 10 million. These are voters that, come rain, come sunshine, will vote for Peter Obi. Maybe, out of abundance of caution, we will have to work hard to secure another five million votes, but I am sure that an extra three million votes will do the magic for us. Working to convince another three million voters to vote for Peter Obi, in the next six months, is not a very difficult job to do, and I assure you that by the time, the Peter Obi Support Network and other strategic teams of the Peter Obi campaign unfolds their agenda, even Tinubu’s campaign manager, if he truly loves Nigeria, will vote for us.

Now, let me give you a breakdown of the States that Peter Obi is sure to win outrightly and the States that he is sure to get at least 25% of the votes cast. Note that in States where he will win, he will win with a very wide margin, to make up for other places where he might not perform too well.

This is a very conservative analysis as Peter Obi is expected to do a lot better than this. But, even if he doesn’t, with this alone, he will be declared the President-elect without any need for a runoff.

Ifeanyi Okowa accusing him of dragging the Church into politics on the sole reason that he attends Church programmes. Obi spoke through his Special Adviser on Media, Mr. Valentine Obienyem.

He asked “Should Obi start shunning Church events because of politics, even when we know that since leaving office in 2014, that Obi has visited over 1000 schools and hospitals owned by the Churches, offering them all manner of support for the upgrade of their schools and hospitals that serve the citizens of Nigeria.

Obienyem, while cautioning against bringing the name of the Church into disrepute, said that those doing such were those linking genuine actions of patriots to politics, even when it was absolutely unnecessary.

Obienyem, who also said that the reference to politics was unnecessary because electioneering had not started, disagreed with Okowa on distinguishing those to be reached out to or not, saying: “Why would Okowa suggest that it is wrong for anybody to reach out to the Churches? Is this not contemptuous of Churches? Everybody is affected by the bad governance in the country and should expectedly be involved in the efforts to enthrone good governance. He should be told about the difference between being politically aware and getting involved in active politics”, Obienyem said, while suspecting that very soon they would start to criminalize the encounter Obi is having with Nigerians in Diaspora.

Assuring Nigerians that Obi would not get tired of preaching to Nigerians about good governance and the need for the people of Nigeria to take back their country, Obienyem called on other patriots to join in the crusade rather than wishing people to keep quiet so that the status quo would remain the same.

David Ukpo, the victim of the alleged organ h@rvesting scandal involving Senator Ike Ekweremadu and his wife, Beatrice, on Tuesday asked a Federal High Court in Abuja to set aside its July 1 order for the release of his bio-data for use in a London court in Ekweremadu’s trial.

Ukpo, while faulting proceedings of the court that led to the issuance of the order, claimed that his fundamental rights to a fair hearing and personal privacy had been grossly breached.

His grouse was that neither he nor the Attorney General of the Federation, AGF, as Chief Law Officer of the Federation, was made a party in the suit. In a motion on notice he just filed through his lawyer, Mr Bamidele Igbinedion, Ukpo prayed Justice Inyang Eden Ekwo to reverse the order permitting the release of his bio-data to Ekweremadu and his wife for their defense before Uxbridge Magistrate Court in London.

Defendants in the motion bothering on the alleged breach of fundamental rights are National Identity Management Commission, NIMC, Comptroller General, Nigeria Immigration Service, Stanbic IBTC Bank, United Bank for Africa, UBA, and Nigeria Inter-bank Settlement System. The applicant is praying the court to restrain the defendants, their agents, privies, staff, and workers from releasing any information concerning him to Ekweremadu and his wife for their defense in the London court.

Soludo Suspends TC Chairman Of Nnewi North Local For Beaten His Wife To Death

The Governor of Anambra State Prof Chukwuma Soludo has Suspended the newly appointed Transition Chairman of Nnewi North Local Government Area Hon Mbaulike Iloka for allegedly beaten his wife to death on Sunday.

It was alleged that Hon. Mbazulike’s wife caught him when he picked some young ladies she suspected to be his side chick at the event they attended on Saturday evening, which she tried to stop him but to no avail.

According to the family members and friends of late Mrs. Chidiebere Iloka, they disclosed that he beat his wife to death over an heated argument between the couples on Sunday morning because of what happened at the event they attended on Saturday evening.

Hon. Mbazulike, in his own account says she slumped and died , a report that is being disputed in some quarters by friends and family members of the late Mrs Chidibere who had earlier reported several cases of Domestic Violence and a repeat of same that Sunday morning that lead to her death.

Family sources hinted that when they arrived at the scene, they found Chidiebere’s corpse on the ground with marks of bruises and cuts on her body.

The Catholic Bishop of Uyo Diocese, John Ebebe Ayah, has explained why he ‘rejected’ Governor Ben Ayade’s largesse during a Thanksgiving mass held on Sunday in Calabar.

During the mass which was held at the St. Patrick’s Catholic, Ikot Ansa, Calabar, Bishop Ayah subtly shunned the irresistible ‘whispered package’ of the governor to the bewilderment of the congregation and everyone else in church.

This took place at the thanksgiving mass for Justice Emmanuel Agim Akomaye, who was recently promoted to the rank of Judge of the Supreme Court of Nigeria.

Vanguard learned that Gov. Ayade who was special guest of honour, was invited to make a donation in support of the church’s 2022 harvest unveiling.
The governor made a donation of N25 million on behalf of the state government, his family and the judiciary.
“You are our pride, the pride of Cross River North, the son of the soil, Bishop John Ayah, I will whisper my package to you later.

In his response the Bishop told the governor that he wants to express himself while acknowledging that he was his brother from Northern Cross River.
“I want to talk. The governor is my brother, we are both from Cross River North. I want to appreciate the governor and tell him to package whatever he has for me, add to it and use it to pay the salaries of the workers,” Bishop Ayah said.

Vanguard gathered that the Bishop received thunderous ovation from the congregation and everyone which took minutes to die down.

Last Saturday, July 22nd the Chairman of Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing Company Ltd, Chief Dr Innocent Ifediaso Chukwuma OFR gave out a brand new Innoson IVM G5 to Mr Ikechukwu Osakwe popularly known as Osabros who prophesied to him in 1979 that he would be the first man in Africa to manufacture vehicles and sell to different African countries.


The prophecy was given at the period the then Innocent Chukwuma could not boast of a car, talk less of manufacturing one. According to Dr Chukwuma during the presentation of the car, he recalled on how Mr Ikechukwu Osakwe all the way from Kano blocked him at the front of his house early in the morning and told him he has a message for him.

Mr Osakwe went on to narrate a dream he had about him, how he saw in the said dream his vehicle manufacturing company known as CAP PLC. “He told me that CAP means Chukwuma Automobile Productions. Immediately he said that I laughed him to scorn and left him immediately.

After some years when I established the first motorcycle assembly plant, he came back again to remind me of that dream again and told me that I will still manufacture vehicles. Of a truth it was after I had established my vehicle manufacturing plant that I realized that his prophecy was real.

This week I signed an MOU with TAXI PLUS all the way from MALI to supply about 400 vehicles to Mali and I then recalled that Mr Ikechukwu Osakwe prophesied as far back as 1979 that I will be the first indigenous vehicle manufacturing company to sell cars to other African countries. I shed tears of joy and said this can only be the hand of God. That is why I have invited him to let him know that his prophecy has been fulfilled. I have decided to give him a Brand new IVM G5 SUV and pay him a monthly salary for life. I want to encourage him to keep serving His God”.

The presentation of the vehicle was witnessed by the members of Osakwe’s family, friends and relatives. The presentation was done by Chief Gabriel Chukwuma, (Gabros), immediate elder brother to Dr Innocent Chukwuma who equally was a witness in 1979 when the prophecy was given.

In his vote of thanks, Mr Osakwe expressed gratitude to Dr Chukwuma and further told him that more great things will still happen to him and IVM. He prayed for Dr Chukwuma and told him that the Grace of God that has brought him this far will continue to see him through till IVM becomes a dominant force in Africa.
