Governance, Coronavirus And Delinquent Leadership – Late Yinka Odumakin

GOVERNANCE, Coronavirus And Delinquent Leadership -By Yinka Odumakin

The Church was packed full. It was a gathering of eminent Nigerians to remember. But there probably more soldiers than dignitaries and well wishers who came to wish Papa Adekunle Ajasin final bye. The men in green were in the Owo Church to “guard” then No 2 in the country: gen. Oladipo Diya who came to stand in for his dark-googled and evil-hearted boss, Gen Sani Abacha.

A soldier was standing over my head with a gun. I looked at him and his weapon intermittently that I could hardly concentrate on the service until Most. Rev Abiodun Adetiloye, then Primate of the Anglican Church started his sermon.

He told a story I will never forget that day in 1997. It was about the day God was creating the countries of the earth. He would create a country now and deposit gold there. Another he would create and pit cocoa and bronze. But when he was to create Nigeria He deposited oil, gold, bitumen, iron and all mineral resources you can think of.

Resentment grew among other countries and God saw their ill-fillings. But he continued putting more resources in Nigeria until He was satisfied.

He now turned to the raging countries to ask them the cause of their resend tent and they told him it was about the resources He put in only Nigeria. He shook his head and laughed at their ignorance about the fact that resources on their own food not make a country great. He told them”Look at the leaders I will put in charge of the resources”.

Coronavirus is today showing to all those protesting countries today how useless a country can be with all the resources on earth of it badly structured with wrong leaders.

With all the resources God deposited in this land, it could only coast of 5 test centers for its over 200m estimated people(Nigeria cannot even count its citizens ).india has over 1.3billion people and on their national news daily you will see “Indian Population as at. 9 pm tonight “.

My heart bled when I saw a “fine bara” letter a top medical institution where the Saudi Royal family used to come on medical pilgrimage is allegedly now sending all over town to be able to buy simple things like ventilators, a confirmation of how well the leaders of this country ha be done over the years.

The Senator who removed his face mask to sneeze and release bacteria all over the hollow chambers is a typical representation of those who run this place.

We have many slices of how leadership wrecks a country all over is in this season of pandemic starting with the Chief of Staff to the President, Mr Abba Kyari who is now positive of Coronavirus.

Only God knows what the business of a COS is going with the Power Minister to a high -incident country like Germany to negotiate equipment in the misdated of this pandemic outside what Nigerian leaders are notorious for.

The man returned to the country and continued the reckless and impunity-driven lifestyle of a Nigerian VIP. He didn’t self -isolate. He was at the Federal Executive where he is the direct boss of ministers, he met the President and governors, he attended weddings, burials and other functions. He must have spread the virus all over the country particularly among the big men and women.

And now my brother, Omoyele Sowore is alerting the world that they are aiming for his head because his SR published the starts of Kyari.

The irresponsibility that misrules our national life would have kept this opaque I while all those who met Kyari would not have been aware r of what they possibly carry and contained the spread.Only in Nigeria!

London is one of the most badly hit cities of the world by Coronavirus but our Ambassador there being a retired Justice of the Supreme Court notwithstanding is a Nigerian big man above all else. He turned 80 and had to duo a lavish party. He implored a lot of personalities from Nigeria with Ebenezer Obey there to serenade. Two of Justice Oguntade guests have been reported dead of the virus.

The National Leader of APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu was in London for several weeks during the spread of this disease and could not be said to be ignorant of. What was going on, In fact when his party was involved in leadership crisis he fired a memo home in which he deployed Coronavirus imagery.

He returned to the country after Kyari has been diagnosed and Oguntade guests we’re dead but the big man in him would not self-isolate. He was seen knocking elaborate with Lagos Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo- Olu a day after he arrived. He spoke with journalists who would go and put the same equipments in the mouth of other personalities. Political meetings would not be reeled out where favor-seekers would no be in short supply.

Only God would know what Bauchi Governor, Bala Mohammed who is now Coronavirus positive was looking for when he chose the period of pandemic to pay a courtesy visit to the country’s disease control centre. He even took a group picture that was almost a kilometer long in a malady that was uniquely Nigerian and devoid of he commonest sense.

It is only a leadership made of the Nigerian stuff that would know our zero capacity as country to handle this type of virus that even countries with the best of medical facilities are only trying that would leave our boarders open till we did. Ni do not want to accept r the suggestion that we could jeopardize the health of the whole country just to wait till the time a few privileged citizens felt they were ready to return the country.

And the great difference a good leadership can make could be seen between Nigeia and China. This Coronavirus problem started in China but that country of 1.46 billion people has run it out. China and Nigeria were at par on most development indices in the 70s.

The country recorded a total of 80,928 confirmed virus cases with 3,245 deaths. Another 70,420 people have been released from hospital and 7,263 remain in treatment.

“It’s very clear that the actions taken in China have almost brought to an end their first wave of infections,” said Ben Cowling, the head of the division of epidemiology and biostatistics at Hong Kong University’s School of Public Health. “The question is what will happen if there’s a second wave, because the kind of measures that China has implemented are not necessarily sustainable in the long term.”But they have succeeded and Trump is now talking of working closely with that country.

China’s leader, Xi Jinping, had called for a “people’s war” against the epidemic, and the party’s propaganda outlets have in recent weeks hailed the party’s response as a success and a model for other countries. .We have not heard one word from our own President and his party’s propaganda is about his whereabouts.

China was able to build a Coronavirus hospital in Wuhan in 10 days. It is doubtful if Nigeria can lay a foundation of a modern hospital in 10 months. The only hospital we can build in such period would be one whose entire budget would be in the pockets of officials will only the site to show.

Weeks back, Nigerians were running from Chinese but today it is Chinese whoa are packing their bags and leaving Nigeria in the replay of Nigeria-Ghana scenario. the song here was “Ghana -Must-Go” when we chased them out its Nigerians who are being kicked out of Ghana.

My friend, Adebayo Adeleke posted a news clip from Joy TV of “73 prostitutes” ring deported from Ghana comprising 71 Nigeerias!

Nigeia we hail tee!

…….And some provocations

And Mrs Biola Agbaje sent out this thought-provoking one on COVD-19 during the week and her concluding lines got me thinking further on our national tragedy :

“Returnees from abroad have drivers, PAs, etc to rush to meet them at the airport, house helps, cooks, etc, who are only too glad to shake Ogas hand in welcome. Many get infected. They go home to their one bedroom homes, where 6 people squeeze into, and infect their families. An ever expanding circle of contagion, with a population of 200+ million! And NEXT TO NO healthcare! ( please don’t let’s fool ourselves).

And therin lies the irony, the unfairness of our corrupt system. Who will get the scant Medicare available?? You got it- the same 1% who brought Covid 19 into the country in the first case!

Alibabas Jack Ma has just sent $$$millions of medical aid to be distributed among African countries. News is that Nigeria has taken delivery of hers. Please watch and see who gets it.”

I Watched Helplessly As My Husband Was Beaten To Death By His Siblings -Widow

Chidiebube Okeoma

Tuesday, April 13, is a day 24-year-old Chinaza Azuatalam will not forget. It’s the day her 29-year-old husband, Chinonso Azuatalam, who is a welder, lost his life.

The artisan on that day took breakfast with his wife and two daughters, Munachi, aged three years and Amara, one year, and left for his workshop located in Okuku community, Owerri West Local Government Area of Imo State.

Our correspondent learnt that he had barely started work for the day when he got a call that his sister, Chioma, a serving police woman in the state, was in his house and allegedly beating his pregnant wife.

It was gathered that Chinonso returned home to a chaotic atmosphere where some villagers were trying to rescue his wife from his sister.

Chinaza, who spoke to our correspondent from her hospital bed on Thursday in Okuku, said that her husband on arrival protested against his sister’s action, adding that his sister instead called three of their siblings on the phone to join her.

The pregnant woman who spoke in a broken voice added that on arrival, his three brothers-in-law identified as Chibuzor, and twins; Mishark and Shedrack, allegedly descended on her husband.

She said that while villagers at the scene tried to stop them from fighting her husband, one of the twins allegedly hit her husband with a big stick and he fell down immediately. Chinaza noted that her husband’s immediate younger brother, Chibuzor, used a machete to inflict a deep cut on her husband’s forehead and he lost consciousness.

The woman said that contrary to the claim that her husband died in a hospital, he actually gave up the ghost before he could get medical help. The pregnant widow further alleged that her in-laws were also threatening her life after purportedly killing her husband.

She said, “I married Chinonso in 2017. He was until his death a welder and the first son of his family. We had two daughters together, Munachi and Amara and I am currently seven months pregnant. My husband, daughters and I ate breakfast together that day before he left for his workshop. Not long after he left home, my sister-in-law, Chioma, came to our house and started beating me. She abused me and was beating me before some villagers came to my rescue.

“My husband whose workshop was not far away from home was contacted and he quickly rushed home. On arrival, he started protesting and his sister, a police officer, who always boasted of how connected she is, quickly called three of their siblings on the phone to come to our house. They came and started beating my husband. As they beat him, one of the twins hit him with a big stick and his immediate younger brother used a machete on him and he had a deep cut on his head and collapsed immediately.

“People started shouting that they had killed my husband and started crying. I wanted to come out from where I hid but some people quickly held me and the children back. My husband died before some villagers took him to a hospital in Umuguma where he was pronounced dead by doctors.

“The death of my husband was painful because that was not what I bargained for with him. Where do I start from? The incident has crippled me and it looks as if my world has stopped moving. It looks as if the world is against me now. It looks as if I am still in a dream and hoping to wake up in no distant time to realise that this episode is a movie scene.’’

Asked if her husband had issues with his siblings before his death, the widow said there had been disagreements over inheritance which she claimed his family members denied him as the first son.

She said that her husband’s maternal uncles advised him to forget his late father’s shop which the second son occupied and their family land which his siblings allegedly wanted to share without her husband’s consent.

The woman who said that she dropped out in secondary school said, “My husband’s maternal uncles came on Sunday and pleaded with him to allow his immediate younger brother to continue using their father’s shop. Also, his siblings teamed up to share their father’s belongings in her husband’s absence. The development was vehemently opposed by my husband.’’

The widow also claimed that she faced opposition from her mother-in-law whom she alleged mocked her for not having a male child. She stated, “They teamed up to kill my husband and they have succeeded. My sister-in-law always boasted that she would deal with me and my husband and nothing would happen.”

Asked what she wanted upon her husband’s death, she said, “I want my in-laws to bring back my husband. I am only a housewife. My husband was the breadwinner. He was the one who took care of our daughters. I want justice. I want the government to come to my aid. I want my children’s education to be taken care of. My husband was awaiting the arrival of the baby in my womb. But it’s unfortunate that he did live to see his unborn child. I want justice for my husband. I want the government to establish something for me so that I can take care of my children.’’

The widow said that she would not consider staying with her husband’s family, adding that she cannot be safe with them.

Chinaza said, “Nigerians should come to my aid. Nigerians should not allow hunger to kill me and my children. I don’t know how to feed my children and myself or take care of my baby when I give birth. I want my husband to get justice even in death.”

The deceased’s uncle, Amadi Azuatalam, who spoke to our correspondent when he visited the place where the murder took place, said that he was also not spared from what he described as his nephews and nieces troubles.

Amadi said, “Their father was my elder brother and he died in 2019. His children took over his lands and property. The truth is that I am not spared of the children’s troubles. The police officer among them once locked up my family members.”

The president of the community, Martin Daniel, said that the community was working closely with the police to ensure that there was no further breakdown of law and order in the community.

The community leader stated that though the incident was regrettable, the community had moved in to curb negative events in the area.

Daniel said, “What happened in our community was regrettable. It was unfortunate that the family didn’t manage their differences well. The incident happened and our own as a community is to ensure that we work closely with the government to ensure that there is no breakdown of law and order.”

He promised that the community would monitor the development of things regarding the matter to ensure that justice was served.

Another source in the community, who spoke on condition of anonymity, accused the siblings of misbehaving to their late brother.

He said, “The deceased was a welder who fought with his siblings and one of them hit him with a big stick on the back of his head and he lost consciousness. Their sister who is a policewoman beat up the deceased’s pregnant wife. They all ran away on getting information that their eldest brother had been pronounced dead. Their mother also ran away. Their fight was over their late father’s property.’’

When Saturday PUNCH visited the Azuatalam family house, no one was at home. On inquiry, it was discovered that the police arrested the policewoman while others, including the twins and their mother, were on the run.

In his narration, second son and one of the late Chinonso’s siblings, Chibuzor, who spoke to our correspondent, said that he had no hand in the death of his elder brother.

He said that it was the deceased who inflicted machete cuts on his hand. Chibuzor added that the deceased refused to accept the formula in sharing their late father’s wealth.

He said “I didn’t kill my elder brother. He was the one who inflicted machetes cut on my hand. It was while trying to further inflict injury on me that one of the twins hit him with a stick. He fell and we rushed to a hospital at Umuguma behind the police station. He was referred to another hospital on Owerri-Okigwe Road at Orji. It was there that the doctors confirmed him dead.”

On the disagreement in sharing their father’s property, Chibuzor said, “Upon the death of our father, we were left with three and half plots of land because we sold one plot to facilitate his burial. After the burial, we contributed money and bought a plot of land, making it four and half plots of land. A family meeting was held and it was agreed that the first son should take a plot and half while the remaining three of us who are males should take a plot each. But our eldest brother disagreed and insisted he would take two and half plots. It was agreed that the male children should continue to live in our father’s house until we build our own houses and leave the house for the first son. But he found that uncomfortable.”

Chibuzor also denied the allegation that her sister, who is a police officer, beat the deceased’s pregnant wife.

He said, “My sister didn’t beat her late brother’s wife. She only poked her mouth. My elder brother was the one who used a machete to destroy things in the house. The deceased was the one who used a machete to inflict injury on my hand. It was in his second attempt to cut me that one of the twins hit him with a stick and he fell down. The incident is regrettable.”

However, the state police spokesperson, Orlando Ikeokwu, who said that the command had swung into action, added that two of the siblings, including the female police officer, had been arrested.

Ikeokwu, said that a report available to the police indicated that the late Chinonso was after her mother to kill her over disagreements in the sharing of their father’s property.

He said, “On April 12, based on a report received at the Divisional Police Headquarters, Owerri West LGA, operatives of the division arrested one Chioma Emenyionu, and her brother, one Mishark Emenyionu, both of Uborji village, in Okuku, Owerri West LGA, Imo State. They were arrested in connection with the murder of their brother, one Chinonso Emenyionu.

“Preliminary investigation reveals that the late Chinonso was protesting the formula used in the sharing of their father’s property. As a result of which he took a machete and threatened to cut his mum. His sister, Chioma Emenyionu, then called their other brothers, Chigbu, Mishark, and Shedrack Emenyionu, all of whom arrived at the scene and descended on the late Chinonso and beat him to stupor. Consequently, he was rushed to the hospital where he was confirmed dead. However, the corpse has been deposited in the morgue, while effort is on to arrest the other fleeing suspects. Investigation is ongoing.”

Pope Francis Approved The Ordination Of One Livinus Nnamani Suffering Leukemia As Priest Ahead Of Others

A young Nigerian religious, Livinius Nnamani, a seminarian who has been suffering from leukemia was ordained to the priesthood by Bishop Daniele Libanori S.J, Auxiliary bishop of Rome diocese and Titular Bishop of Buruni, with the approval of Pope Francis.

The 31-year-old had written to the Holy Father requesting to move forward his ordination, and was granted his wish on 1 April. Bishop Daniele Libanori, an Auxiliary bishop of Rome, ordained Livinius a priest at the Presidio Sanitario Medica Group Casilino Hospital in Rome.

Fr. Livinius’ story
Recently-ordained Fr. Livinius began his vocation journey in Owerri, Imo state, in Southeastern Nigeria, when he entered the Order of the Mother of God, aged 20.

Shortly after his first vows, Livinius was diagnosed with Leukemia, setting off a challenging period of therapies and treatments for the young religious. Two years ago, he was sent to Italy in search of better healthcare and to continue his studies.

Notwithstanding the gruelling transfusions and targeted treatments, Livinius continued his studies at the Pontifical University of Saint Thomas Aquinas, better known as the Angelicum, and pronounced his final vows last September.

However, as the illness progressed, He started to spend longer periods in hospital, and his desire to complete his formation to the priesthood began to look more uncertain.

Consequently, Livinius made the decision to write to Pope Francis, asking him to bring forward his ordination. The reply came quickly on 31 March: Pope Francis gave his permission. The following day, Livinius was ordained a priest.

The gift of priesthood
“With this gift,” Bishop Libanori said during his homily, “God the Father wants to sustain you so that you can fully live the trial to which he called you.”

“As a priest, you will be joined with Jesus to make your body an offering pleasing to God. Our priesthood, indeed, reaches its peak when together with the bread and wine, we know how to offer all of ourselves, the things the Lord has given us, and our very lives.”

Presently, Fr. Livinius has begun his priestly ministry at the Casilino hospital, where he gives his blessing to the doctors and nurses who care for him and other patients on a daily basis.

Igbos: Our Children May Be Preparing For Moral, Economic, Political And Social Doom -COCIR

The press conference held on 18th April,2021 by Concern Citizen Of Igbo Race at Pool Side of the Imo Concord Hotel Owerri.

EMERGENCE:

There are frightful dangers ahead visible to only those who care beyond their selfish interest. The ship of Igbo Race is fast approaching a huge rock of non-existence in the state hood of Nigerian waters and unless you (Igbo people) quickly rise up to the occasion and courageously steer the ship away from its present course, it shall hit the rocks but may the good Lord of Ndi- Igbo forbid it in Jesus unchallengeable names, amen.

Subsequently, we all know that evil & all forms of societal norms and injustices triumph greatly in a society where good people keep quiet and do nothing!
Therefore, it is based on the above stated facts that a group of concerned Igbos felt that if nothing positive is done and quickly to re-address the ugly trend, a lot of Igbo children will be preparing for moral, economic, political & social doom in the nearest future if it’s not already the case.
To this effect, we believe that the reason Ndi-Igbo have no serious and direct federal influence nor any federal agencies in the region is owning to the fact that we as a people have not really formed a CORDINATED & WELL FOCUS ORIENTED CLAIMS TO ANY DEMAND OR CAUSE AS IT SHALL BENEFIT THE GENERALITY OF OUR DEAR PEOPLE CONSISTENTLY.

COCIR therefore unequivocally decried that despite numerous socio, cultural & political groups that exists amongst the Igbos and the intimating vast population of the Igbo race regrettably; all these have not directly or indirectly benefitted the utmost interest of the entire people of the region.

It’s worth to note that all these have at best contributed to the current woos, insults, injustices being melted to our entire region and people to say the least.

THE WAFORWARD

In order to address some of these prevailing ugly and disturbing happenings in our dear society, we the members of Concerned Citizens Of Igbo Race COCIR as an interest and a mediation group rise in unison to state unequivocally with the following resolutions as reached thus:

1. To work as a watch group over Igbo affairs and people in order to identify, expose and deter all the forms of agent of destabilization amongst Igbos and her allied struggles.

2. To hence forth work to encourage & build on the things that will unite us as a people for mutual benefits in spite of our individual differences.

3. As members of the large Igbo community with the interest of the Igbos at heart, we have just concluded a consolidated opinion pulls amongst Igbos within and outside the country on the perception index regarding the elected leaders of the region especially the Governors’ of the zone, hence we here by appeal to the five Governors of the zone to work hard hence forth to change the negative perception the people of the region have towards them.
Our dear Governors, you must do well to win back the confidence of the people that you are not there to serve the interest of your Northern masters as alleged but for the good interest of the locals through people oriented policies and services.

4. We call on the South East political leaders to shun & jettison all forms of anti, people & selfish tendencies to stand and pursue agenda targeted towards the common good of the entire people & region especially in regards to security of lives & property.

5. The time for the Igbos to speak with one voice regardless of party affiliations and personal interest has come for the common good of the region hence COCIR will not close her eyes to any person or groups defaulting in this note hence forth.

6. COCIR applauds and commend the South East Governors and Ohaneze Leadership on the initiation of a regional security code named Ebube Agu. We appeal for synergy on their part with Eastern Security Network ESN operatives to ensure harmonious operations and effective policing of the zone to ensure no intruder groups gains access to attack any section of the region.

7. COCIR as a mediation group here by appeal for the harmonization and reintegration of ideas amongst the South East Governors, Ohaneze leadership, MASSAB, IPOB groups etc. We reasoned that for the region to truly prospers, there must be unity & peace hence we appeal to the leaders of the region to initiate a reconciliatory stance with IPOB leadership in a bid to iron out any grey areas of distrust for an all inclusive proper dialogue with the Buhari led federal government for we know that all what the region want is justice, fairness, equity not war and its likes.

8. COCIR here by commend the IPOB leadership for her peaceful & non violent principles despite all provocations hence we appeal to them to maintain non violent disposition and do well to tailor down on her operational code in regards to using offensive & harsh words to our national & regional leaders for two wrongs they say cannot make a right.

9. COCIR rise to condemn in totality the treachery and shenanigans decisions and moves by PDP national leadership to deny South East of 2023 presidential ticket slot by jettisoning the age long zoning arrangement now it is the time of the region. Hence, we here by warn them to maintain status quo by doing the right thing or be massively rejected by the people of the region henceforth. For what is good to the goose should also be good to the gender.

10. In the pursuit of equity, fairness and justice we the concerned Citizens of Igbo Race (COCIR) advise the All Progressive Congress (A.P.C) Party Leadership Not to follow the wrong precedents set by the Peoples Democratic Party (P.D.P) in technically denying the South East Zone of her party Presidential Ticket by ensuring that justice is served to the region by zoning their president ticket to the south East towards a new and united prosperous Nigeria.

These facts were made and adopted for potential follow up this day Sunday 18th April, 2021 at Imo Concord Hotels Owerri.

CONCERNED CITIZENS OF IGBO RACE (COCIR).

VISION: RESTORING THE UNITY & DIGNITY OF THE IGBOS.

Following the incident, the second largest community in the state has been thrown into confusion and panic as many of the residents are expressing fear over the bloody clash.

A source in the community who spoke with Nigerian Tribune said the early Sunday’s incident was a reprisal attack following the killing of a leader of a cult group in the community on Saturday night.

It was gathered that many others were injured during the clashes and are receiving treatment in both public and private hospitals in the community.

According to the source, “Obviously, his cult members were pained by the killing of their leader and early this morning (Sunday) they went on a rampage and five persons were killed in the process.

Dr. Linda Iheme, Helping Post Graduates To Secure- Scholarships Abroad Via Vantage Migration

There is saying that goes “Teach one how to fish instead of giving him fish” this is exactly what Vantage Migration And Allied Consult stands for the Nigeria Youths.

Here is a lady God has prepared to give a facelift to young people in africa especially Nigerians to use the common thing they uniquely have to make money via various training through Vantage Migration and Allied Consult.Vantage Migration And Allied Consult is a consultancy Company that Teaches and Trains Graduates on how to secure admission and scholarship abroad by themselves without running to any agent who might run away with their funds.

I was dazed when I come across one of her training on How to Monitize your biggest asset on her Facebook page. And I said to myself if many had known this the rate of joblessness in this country would have reduced.

Talking about Dr. Linda Iheme the CEO of the Vantage Migration And Allied Consult herself She did this on a five key points which are as follows.

1. What is Asset? She used Robert Kiosaki definition of Asset: An asset is anything that puts money in your pocket either daily pay, weekly, monthly or even yearly, on the other hand the same man described liability: to be anything that takes money from your pocket. Based on this Dr. Linda is day that your certificate can be your asset if only you can do what she’s about revealing.

2. What is your biggest Asset? Your biggest asset is your University degree certificate and that is why everyone is struggling to be a graduate of one discipline or the other but after graduation what next?

3. How to uniquely monetize your certificate? One way you can Monitize your degree certificate is by using the certificate to get another higher degree on scholarship, wow! That’s sound great and some it sounds funny, actually many will not agree on this school of thought. Have you taken out time to ask why almost 98% of job seekers are university graduates of one discipline or the other yet no job? It’s simply because they do not want, or ignorant or have no assistance on how to Monitize their certificate, hmm!. But when they apply for scholarship with their degree certificate irrespective of the grade, lower class or upper class, even 3rd class, I know some may say getting a job is also a way of monitizing your certificate, yes you are right, take a breath and checkout this simple calculation, if you are employed after graduation and you are paid $50 monthly, it means in year you earn about $600. But when you gained scholarship to study masters with the same certificate you will be paid around $20,000 yearly with or without school fees, and it’s higher on PhD scholarship, can you see the difference. And even if you’re paid $1000 monthly in your company (I bet you is not possible) you end up earning $12,000 with much stress and labour. This exactly why Dr. Linda’s training on monitising your certificate is UNIQUE.

4. Why people may not agree! Many Amy say it’s same thing if I get job here in my country with my certificate but check around you will see those graduated 5-10years with little or no jobs, also some may say how possible is it to get thai scholarship and who will facilitate it? Prepare To Meet Your Ancestors If You Are Joining Ebube Agu to Spy ESN -IPOB

Anyone joining EBUBEAGU to spy on ESN should prepare to meet his ancestors – IPOB warns

… Rejects outfit

The Indigenous Peoples of Biafra, IPOB, has warmed Igbo youths to keep their distance from the EBUBEAGU regional security outfit floated by South East governors if its motive were to spy on pro-Biafra groups.
All five South East governors had after their meeting with other Igbo stakeholders in Owerri on Sunday, announced the formation of the outfit to help curb insecurity in the zone.
But IPOB in a statement Tuesday by its Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, rejected the outfit, saying the establishment of another security outfit in the zone is unnecessary.

IPOB said that the Eastern Security, Network ESN, set up in December 2020 by its Leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu was enough and already living up to expectations.

According to IPOB the action of the governors is rather belated and suspicious.
The statement read in part: ” How can you launch a security outfit without first assembling the personnel and equipping them?

“When Amotekun was formed it was not abstract, the personnel and their equipment were handy. When our leader floated the gallant Eastern Security Network, ESN, the men were on ground.

“How then did South East Governors announce a security outfit without any personnel or were they under any pressure to hurriedly make the announcement after years of foot-draging and deceit?

“However, whether or not they were under any influence, we want to remind them that there is no need for them to form another security outfit in our land since we have our formidable ESN.

“They woke up from their slumber rather too late. We have gone beyond that stage unless they are on a mission to sabotage ESN.
“Any other security outfit formed in South East will crash because ESN is already on ground and living up to expectations.

“ESN was floated based on the clamour by our people, and they have since thrown their support behind the outfit. Forming another regional security outfit is suspicious, and a needless waste.

” The governors failed our people when they needed their protection. It’s already late!
“Biafrans will not be deceived by this purported EBUBEAGU security outfit which is a huge joke. South East governors set up the outfit probably to fulfill all righteousness or to spy on ESN to curry favour from their Fulani slavemasters.”

The statement warned of bitter consequences for anyone joining EBUBEAGU outfit with the intension of spying on ESN.
“We therefore, warn our youths to have nothing to do with the so-called Ebubeagu security outfit which was ostensibly formed to sabotage IPOB and ESN.

“Anyone who neglects this warning and thinks he can hide under the cloak of EBUBEAGU to spy on ESN should be prepared to join his ancestors.

“The protection of all Biafrans is our priority and we are prepared to sacrifice anything to achieve this”.

We South-East Governors Are Hiding Our Faces In Shame – Dave Umahi

EBONYI State Governor and Chairman, South-East Governors’ Forum, David Umahi, on Sunday, said governors of the region were currently hiding their faces in shame

Umahi stated that the herdsmen they (South-East governors) fought hard to protect were the ones killing the people.

The governor made these remarks in Abakaliki, the state capital, when Vice President Yemi Osinbajo paid a condolence visit to the state on Sunday.

Umahi said, “Even when the killings happened; very unprovoked killings, some people said they gave the governor of Ebonyi State 21 days to resign. We have been called all kinds of names and we feel ashamed that the same people we fight for day and night as governors and leaders of South-East to ensure the oneness of this country would know about attacks on Ebonyi State and they were asked to leave and they left, and we were slaughtered and killed.

“What face do we have then to face our people? We feel so ashamed to face our people. When this thing happened, Your Excellency, there was going to be very violent retaliation. But I thank God for the leaders of this state. I thank God for CAN, the youths and traditional rulers.

“We immediately called for a stakeholders’ meeting and reached an agreement and said for the interest of this country, there would be no retaliation. But we are happy that you (Osinbajo) have a document that has been given to you.

“We are not saying it shouldn’t be investigated, but that document is information that came from the phone of the murderers and that’s what the community printed out and handed over to you. We demand a proper investigation.”

Umahi said three communities of Obeagu, Egedegede and Amaizu in the Ishielu Council area and the Effium community in the Ohaukwu Local Government Area of the state, needed the sum of N5bn from the Federal Government to rebuild their homes and resettle.

Umahi added, “We demand that justice be given to the victims. This is the agreement and this is the promise I made to the people of Ebonyi State during our extra ordinary meeting on how to calm the situation.

“But it is also very annoying that herdsmen in other parts of the state are being asked to quit because they want to attack again. This is one attack that must not be attempted. This is because as the chief security officer, I’m to report to the Federal Government, I may not be able to control it.

“Let this madness stop. No one has the monopoly of violence, but we assure the Federal Government that there will be no retaliation, believing that justice will be done. This is because what was provided this afternoon by way of information is good enough to unravel what happened to us.

“We plead with the Federal Government to assist the people of Egedegede with the sum of N2bn so that they rebuild their homes and settle down.

“On the unfortunate killings in Effium community, we are equally pleading with the Federal Government to assist the people with the sum of N3bn, so that they can rebuild their homes.”

Attack In Ebonyi: Killers Acted Like Trained Soldiers -Survivor

While killing our men the herdsmen boasted nothing would happen to them because their people head security agencies

-Woman who survived Ebonyi killings

We learnt that you narrowly escaped the herdsmen’s attack on the Obeagu Road. How did it happen? Why did they spare your life?

Mrs Ngozi Odo-Abuchi is a graduate of the National Teachers’ Institute, who works in the Education Department of the Ishielu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State. In this interview with RAPHAEL EDE, the 49-year-old widow who survived herdsmen’s attack on Obeagu community in the Ishielu LGA on Monday last week, explains her face- to- face encounter with death

On Monday, while I was coming home from where I went to, I mounted an okada from their park at the Nkalagu junction to convey me to Obeagu, my hometown. The rider is from the same community but not the same village. We left Nkalagu around 5pm and from Nkalagu to Obeagu is between 30 and 45 minutes with a motorcycle. We passed our junction, Egedegede, and about half way into the town, we saw people wearing black attire and most of them were inside the bush. Because the okada rider was on top speed, he could not stop immediately after sighting those people. And because he was not suspecting anything, he continued.

Unfortunately, when we got to that point, those people swooped on us. We were trying to run, but we didn’t know they had surrounded the entire place and they grabbed us. They started beating us, dragged us into the bush so that nobody could easily see what they were doing from the road. They were hitting us with their machetes on the head and kicking us with their boots. They stabbed the motorcyclist in the stomach and slit his throat. That was how they killed all the men; some of the attackers cut the men’s noses and hands after killing them.

When you got to the Egedegede junction, did you not see the vehicles and motorcycles that were burnt along the road?

They had not done that. It appeared that they started the killing on the road leading to the community. We were the first they stopped and the okada man conveying us was the first person they killed. As other motorcyclists were coming, they continued killing them, while the females were being tortured. After the beating, they would drag them inside the bush and ask them to lie down. They killed all the okada riders, but the women they didn’t kill, but beat us so mercilessly.

Why did they spare all the women and none was killed?

One of them, while they were killing the men, drew his dagger to stab me. Then I was seriously praying and remembering God’s promises to those who entrusted their lives to him. Suddenly, one of their leaders shouted at him: ‘Do not touch the women, they will go and tell their people that this is the consequences of daring to chase Fulani herdsmen out of their community. They will take our message to Nnamdi Kanu that he is doing his Biafra and that he and his IPOB cannot stop us from operating anywhere in the South-East or even South-South. All the heads of security agencies are our people. If they attack any Fulani man in any state, the government security agencies being controlled by our people will go after them, while we will come for reprisal. Tell Nnamdi Kanu of IPOB that he can continue to rant on social media, while we do what we know best.’

What is your experience like in the hands of the herdsmen?

What I saw that evening is better imagined. It was very horrific, but thank God for sparing my life. God is very merciful to me. I was calling the name of Jesus Christ to intervene and save us. While I was praying, I was also quoting the Bible, remembering his promises to those who believe and trust in him. So, as I was praying, one of them said I shouldn’t pray again and close my mouth, but I kept on praying and they kept beating me. One of them raised a dagger to kill me before another one shouted at him to stop and not to kill her or any of the women. There was nothing they didn’t use to torture us; they hit us with machetes; they kicked us with boots and marched upon us.

How long did the operation last?

I don’t know, but I know it started around 6pm and we were there till darkness covered us. After killing people, they started burning the motorcycles. So, their attack at that location could have lasted about two to three hours or more, but I can’t be exact, because they collected all our belongings – phones, money and every valuable item, including handbags.

Then, how did you manage to come out alive?

It was a miracle of God really. After they had killed all the men, they gathered some motorcycles and were burning them. At that point, I discovered that they were not close to us and we all ran inside the bush and while we were running, we continued to hide behind trees and the darkness of the night covered us. So, we slept inside the bush until the following morning. In the morning, two of us who ran and hid in the same place trekked back to the scene to see if our belongings were left and some villagers saw us and took us home.

How many were the attackers?

They were many; more than 20. I couldn’t have counted them because some of them were on the road; some were staying with us and beating us, while some were going up and down. Probably, those ones were on surveillance looking for more people and ensuring that they were not repelled. Meanwhile, all of them were bearing AK-47 rifles with double magazines.

Do you know who the assailants were?

They were Fulani men. In short, they told us that they were Fulani; that they came to show us that since our people pursued them out of our community, they wanted to give us a parting gift.

Is your community having problems with herdsmen?

Yes. They used to take their cows into our farms and destroy crops. They harvest yams and cassava and use them to feed their cows; when our people complained, they would tell us that it wasn’t their cows that destroyed the crops. So, this year, our people asked them to leave our community so that we could return to the farm. You drove to this place, from that Egedegede junction to this town is about 15 kilometres and I am sure you didn’t see any side of the road that was cultivated and that is because when we cultivate, the herdsmen will bring their cows and destroy it.

Our land is lying fallow, while hunger is killing people, because they can’t go to farm. So, our people said since you could not cohabit with us in peace, it was better you relocate to another place. So, after that, a few weeks ago, the people they occupied their land now drove them out.

What did they tell you was the reason they came to kill your people?

They said our people killed their cows and today we must pay with our lives. Like I told you earlier, they said we were agitating for Biafra and that we would see if that would save us; that Nnamdi Kanu was just making a noise. They also said any community in the South that a Fulani was attacked or their cows killed, after using security agencies that their people control to ensure that the cows were paid for, they would attack the community. They told us to go and tell the chairman of the local government council that the attack they carry out won’t go to the Internet, but the one we carry out would be uploaded on the Internet immediately.

What language were they speaking?

They spoke Pidgin English and their language. They spoke their language when talking among themselves. But the Pidgin English was the language they were speaking mainly, probably because they wanted us to hear them. Looking at the way they carried out the killings, they looked like well-trained soldiers.

Did you have a premonition of the incident?

Yes. I had a revelation of this incident but it was about a month now. I saw it happened to me and since then, I had been praying against it until it was made manifest on that Monday. Before, I was watching on the television how people were being slaughtered, but it was during the attack that I saw it with my eyes. It is only the grace of God that I survived the attack. It is callous, inhuman and atrocious.

Since the incident happened, have the police or any other security agency or government officials visited you to ask you how it happened?

None of those you mentioned has visited me. It is only some community members and my relations who are coming to check on me and ask how it happened.

Imo Attackers Are Members Of IPOB’s ESN –IGP

The Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, says operatives of the Eastern Security Network carried out Monday attacks in Owerri, the Imo State capital.

Adamu condemned the alleged act by the security arm of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra. IPOB, however, has since denied been behind the attacks.

The IGP in a statement signed by Force Public Relations Officer, Frank Mba, ordered the immediate deployment of additional units of Police Mobile Force and other Police Tactical Squads in Imo to strengthen security in the state and prevent further attacks on security formations or any other critical national infrastructure in the state.

The PUNCH had earlier reported that gunmen attacked the Imo State Police Command headquarters and the Owerri Correctional Prison.

Scores of vehicles were razed around 1am on Monday when gunmen attacked Owerri and freed at least 1,500 inmates.

The hoodlums also freed the suspects in almost all the cells at the State Criminal Investigation Department of the command.

Reacting in the statement on Monday, the IGP said, “Preliminary investigations have revealed that the attackers, who came in their numbers with sophisticated weapons such as General Purpose Machine Guns (GPMGs), Sub-Machine Guns (SMGs), AK49 rifles, Rocket Propelled Grenades (RPGs), Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), are members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB)/Eastern Security Network (ESN).

“The attempt by the attackers to gain access to the Police armoury at the Headquarters was totally and appropriately resisted by Police operatives on duty who repelled the attackers and prevented them from breaking-in and looting the armoury.

“The armoury is thus intact! Similarly, the police suffered no human casualty, apart from a police Constable who sustained a minor bullet wound on his shoulder,” the statement partly read.

The statement was titled, ‘Imo Attack – IGP Deploys Security Reinforcement Squads, Sets Up Special Investigation Team (SIT)’.

The IGP also directed the Commissioner of Police in the state and a new Special Investigation Team “to carry out holistic investigations into the incident with a view to fishing-out the perpetrators and bringing them to justice”.

“The IGP, who described the deliberate and criminal attack on security operatives as an attack on the soul of our nation, has enjoined leaders in Imo State, the South-East and other parts of the country to speak out against the unfolding violence and criminality.

“The IGP calls on citizens to avail the Police and other security agencies with useful information that can assist in identifying and arresting the criminals.

“He vowed that the perpetrators will be brought to book, noting that the Force is doing all within its powers to curb the activities of unscrupulous elements hell-bent on threatening the unity, safety, security and socio-economic wellbeing of Nigerians,” the statement added.

How A Nigerian PhD Student Was Killed In US

The lady shot in US

A 24-year-old former Nigerian beauty queen, Najeebat Sule, has been found shot dead inside her car parked close to her residence at 8800 block of Frankford Avenue on March 12, Daily Mail reports.

Nearly three weeks later, police have not found a motive and have made no arrests, leaving Sule’s family and friends searching for answers.

‘I can’t think of anything that would make anyone want to kill her,’ Sule’s close friend Habibat Magaji, told the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Magaji was among the last people to have seen Sule alive before she was gunned down.

The two women had spent the night before at Magaji’s home, eating snacks and watching Netflix together.

Less than 24 hours later, Sule was sitting in her grey Toyota Corolla, exchanging text messages with Magaji, when an unidentified man walked up to the vehicle with a gun drawn and shot her several times.

Sule’s father, Adewale Sule, heard the gunfire and emerged from the house just in time to see the suspect fire the last of the shots at his daughter.

‘I saw the guy shooting my daughter. He shot the last round and I pursued him,’ said the father. ‘He ran back to his car.’

Najeet was rushed to Jefferson Torresdale Hospital, where she was pronounced dead about 30 minutes later.

Her mother, Tawakalitu Sule, said she last heard from Najeet less than two hours before the shooting when her daughter asked her when she was going to be home.

‘All of my children have been crying every day because of their big sister. They really miss her. I miss my daughter,’ she said.

Najeet is survived by her parents and two sisters.

‘She was very talented, smart and funny,’ one of her siblings told 6abc.

The family are currently staying at an undisclosed location over unspecified concerns for their safety.

Sule and her family immigrated to Philadelphia from their native Nigeria in the early 2000s.

Sule had only recently earned a Master’s degree in public health from West Chester University and was pursuing a doctorate.

In 2019, she was crowned a second runner-up at the Miss Nigeria International pageant.

‘Queen Najibat was an amazing young lady whose presence at the Miss Nigerian beauty pageant left a great ripple that continues to resonate,’ pageant organisers wrote on Facebook.

‘She was a breath of fresh air and her presence added a distinct touch that made the event memorable. She carried herself with great dignity and grace and her strength of character and approachability made her such a joy to work with.’

It’s A Bit Unusual’ – Balogun, Aribo, Onyekuru React To Super Eagles Plan To Travel By Boat For Benin.

Gernot Rohr’s men have expressed their indifference as they are set to travel by sea for their qualifying game against the Squirrels
Rangers duo Leon Balogun, Joe Aribo, Galatasaray’s Henry Onyekuru and Watford defender William Troost-Ekong have reacted to the Nigeria national team’s plan to travel by boat for their 2022 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying game against the Republic of Benin on Saturday at the Stade Charles de Gaulle, Porto Novo.

Goal had earlier confirmed the Super Eagles trip to the neighbouring country will be by the sea and adequate security will be provided for the players and all those on board.

The decision has been taken in order to help the Super Eagles avoid the heavy traffic in Lagos if they were to travel by road.

Aribo revealed he has never embarked on a journey by boat but explained it will not affect him mentally to help Nigeria secure victory over the Squirrels.

“Traveling by sea, it is what it is, we can’t use that as an excuse. We know what we have to do mentally and that is to win the match. I have never travelled by sea before,” Aribo told the Punch.

Balogun on his part revealed the Super Eagles are fully focused on winning against Benin despite the ‘unusual’ trip by boat.

“I guess we have to be okay with it, I will say it’s a bit unusual but that’s just how it is,” Balogun said.

“If they change it, it’ll be good if they don’t, we’ll be fine but the most important thing is that we get there in one piece, and win the game.”

Onyekuru is of similar opinion with Aribo, revealing he has never travelled by boat, notwithstanding, he is committed to helping the three-time African champions come out unscathed against the Squirrels at Stade Charles de Gaulle, Porto Novo.

“It will be my first time travelling by sea but I don’t really mind. All that matters to me and my teammates is to wear the jersey, represent our country and win the game,” he added.

Super Eagles vice-captain Troost-Ekong expressed his satisfaction with the boat trip and hopes they will be safe during the journey.

Conte Punished me for playing for Nigeria. -Mikel Obi

Stock City

The ex-Super Eagles captain has recollected how he was frozen out of Stamford Bridge for honouring his country’s call
John Obi Mikel has opened up on how he was punished by former Chelsea manager Antonio Conte for deciding to represent Nigeria at the 2016 Olympics.

The midfielder was called up by the West African country for the tournament as one of the over-age players and got the nod from the Blues hierarchy to honour the invitation but not Conte, who warned him he would never play for the club again if he sticks to his decision.

The 33-year-old went on to captain Nigeria to win the bronze medal in the competition to become the first country to clinch all three medals at the Olympic Games after also scooping the 1996 gold and the 2008 silver medals.

Fati, Moriba & Laporta: Why La Masia is about to save Barcelona billions
Mikel has now revealed he was forced to train alone and never given an opportunity to feature for Chelsea on his return from international duty which forced him to leave for Chinese side Tianjin TEDA in January 2017 after spending 11 years at Stamford Bridge.

“This guy who has just walked in the door for five minutes is telling me I had to choose. He was saying, ‘If you do that, you won’t be a part of this team’,” Mikel told the Athletic.

“I spoke to the club and told them that I wanted to go. The club respected me because of what I had done for them and how long I’d been there.

“So off I went and I felt punished for that. I came back and I didn’t make the squad. I was never in the squad list on matchdays again.

“The funny thing is, just before the January window was going to start, he came up to me and said ‘I want a meeting with you’.

“This was after making me train on my own for months, treating a player who had been at Chelsea for a long time like this!

“When he tried to meet with me he was like, ‘Let’s try and make up, I will need you in the team, let’s squash this, blah, blah, blah!’.

“I was like, ‘Are you joking?! Are you f****** serious?!’ He knew I wanted out. I stood up and walked out of the room. You can’t disrespect a human being like that.”

Before the arrival of Conte, Mikel had starred for the Blues under a number of managers, including Jose Mourinho, Luiz Felipe Scolari and Carlo Ancelotti.

The 32-year-old helped the club win a number of trophies, including the Champions League, Europa League, Premier League, FA Cup trophies and others.

Mikel currently plays for Championship side Stoke City and has been in fine form for the club since his arrival.

History: Lawrence Anini, A Brutal Armed Robber Reigned Between 1986 To 1987

Lawrence Anini: A brutal Arm robber

Exactly 32 years ago today, the notorious bandit who terrorised Benin City and old Bendel State the 80s , Lawrence Nomanyagbon Anini A.K.A. “Ovbigbo” or “the Law” and some members of his gang were executed by firing squad after being convicted by the defunct Bendel Armed Robbery and Firearms Tribunal presided over by Justice James Omo-Agege

Anini was born in a village about 20 miles from Benin City in present-day Edo State. He migrated to Benin at an early age, learned to drive and became a skilled taxi driver. Anini became known in Benin motor parks as a man who could control the varied competing interests among motor park touts and operators. He later dived into the criminal business in the city and soon became a driver and transporter for gangs, criminal godfathers and thieves. Later on, he decided to create his own gang which included, Monday Osunbor, Friday Ofege, Smallie ,Henry Ekponwan, Eweka and Alhaji Zed Zed or Zegezege who was never captured. They started out as car hijackers, bus robbers and bank thieves. Gradually, he extended his criminal acts to other towns and cities far north and east of Benin.

The complicity of the police is believed to have triggered Anini’s reign of terror in 1986. In early 1986, two members of his gang were tried and prosecuted against an earlier under-the-table ‘agreement’ with the police to destroy evidence against the gang members. The incident, and Anini’s view of police betrayal, is believed to have spurred retaliatory actions by Anini. In August, 1986, a fatal bank robbery linked to Anini was reported in which a police officer (Nathaniel Egharevba)and others were killed. That same month, two officers on duty were shot at a barricade while trying to stop Anini’s car. During a span of three months, he was known to have killed nine police officers.

In an operation in August 1986, the Anini team struck at First Bank, Sabongida-Ora, where they carted away N2,000. But although the amount stolen was seen as chicken feed, many persons were killed. On September 6, same year, the Anini gang snatched a Peugeot 504 car from Albert Otoe, the driver of the famous super cop Assistant Inspector General of Police, Christopher Omeben. In snatching the car, they killed the driver and went to hide his corpse somewhere. It was not until three months later that the skeleton of the driver was spotted 16 kilometers away from Benin City, along the Benin-Agbor highway. A day after this attack, Anini, operating in a Passat car believed to have been stolen, also effected the snatching of another Peugeot 504 car near the former FEDECO office, in Benin.

Two days later, the Anini men killed two policemen in Orhiowon Local Government of the state. Still in that month, three different robbery attacks, all pointing to Anini’s involvement, took place. They include the murder of Frank Unoarumi, a former employee of the Nigerian Observer newspapers; the killing of Mrs. Remi Sobanjo, a chartered accountant, and the stealing of the Mercedes Benz car in Benin, of the Ughelli monarch, the Ovie. Before September 1986 drew to a close, Anini struck at a gas station along Wire Road, Benin, where he stole a substantial part of the day’s sales. He shot the station’s attendant and gleefully started spraying his booty along the road for people to pick. The height of Anini’s exploits, however, took place on October 1, 1986, the Independence Day when the state’s Commissioner of Police, Casmir Akagbosu was ambushed by the gang in Benin riddled his convoy in a hail of bullets. The police boss survived the attacks with serious injuries. Earlier that day also, the Anini men had gunned down a police man within the city

“The Law”, as he was nicknamed, during an operation that went bad reportedly had to escape from the police by driving in reverse for a greater part of the distance from Agbor (Delta State) to Benin City (Edo State).
Also, on October 21 of same year, the Anini robbery gang terminated the life of a Benin-based medical doctor, A.O Emojeve when they gunned him down along Textile Mill Road, in Benin. Not done, Anini and gang went and robbed the Agbor branch of African Continental Bank and carted away about N46, 000.

A day after the operation, Anini, The Law, turned to a ‘Father Christmas’ as he strew wads of naira notes on the ground for free pick by market men and women at a village near Benin. Anini’s image thus loomed larger than life, dwarfing those of Ishola Oyenusi, the king of robbers in the 1970s and Youpelle Dakuro, the army deserter who masterminded the most vicious daylight robbery,at Boulous Enterprises in Lagos in 1978, in which two policemen were killed. Anini thus spearheaded a four-month reign of terror between August and December 1986.

Anini also reportedly wrote numerous letters to media houses using political tones of Robin Hood-like words, to describe his criminal acts.

Worried by the seeming elusiveness of Anini and his gang members, the military President, General Ibrahim Babangida then ordered a massive manhunt for the kingpin and his fellow robbers. The police thus went after them, combing every part of Bendel State where they were reportedly operating and living. The whole nation was gripped with fear of the robbers and their daredevil exploits.

However, Police manhunt failed to stop their activities; the more they were hunted, the more intensified their activities became. Some of the locals in the area even began to tell stories of their invincibility and for a while, it felt like they were never going to be caught.

However, at the conclusion of a meeting of the Armed Forces Ruling Council , the Nation’s then highest ruling body in October 1986, General Babangida turned to the Inspector- General of Police, Etim Inyang, and asked, ‘My friend, where is Anini?’ Apperently embarrassed, IGP Iyang could to only tell his Commander in Chief that “We are still looking for him sir”.

IGP Iyang was soon tender his notice of retirement from the force.

At about this time, Nigerian newspapers and journals were also publishing various reports and editorials on the ‘Anini Challenge’, the ‘Anini Saga’, the ‘Anini Factor’, ‘Lawrence Anini – the Man, the Myth’, ‘Anini, and ‘Lawrence Anini: A Robin Hood in Bendel’. The Guardian New papers asked, emphatically, in one of its reports: ‘Will they ever find Anini, “The Law”?’.

An African Proverb says “everyday for the thief ,one day for the owner, Anini’s reign of terror was eventually brought to an end with his arreste by a police officer , Superintendent of Police, Kayode Uanreroro on December 3, 1986, at No 26, Oyemwosa Street, opposite Iguodala Primary School, Benin City, in company with six women. Acting on a tip-off from the locals, the policeman went straight to the house where Anini was hiding and apprehended him with very little resistance. Uanreroro led a crack 10-man team to the house, knocked on the door of the room, and Anini himself, clad in underpants, opened the door. “Where is Anini,” the police officer quickly enquired.

It was believed that his girl friend had a hand in his arrest. Many are of the opinion that the girlfriend collaborated with the police and took Anini’s charms away before the police arrived. Dazed as he was caught off guard and having no escape route, Anini all the same tried to be smart. “Oh, Anini is under the bed in the inner room”.

As he said it, he made some moves to walk past Uanreroro and his team. In the process, he shoved and head-butted the police officer but it was an exercise in futility. Uanreroro promptly reached for his gun, stepped hard on Anini’s right toes and shot at his left ankle. Anini surged forward but the policemen took hold of him and put him in a sitting position.

They then pumped more bullets into his shot leg and almost severed the ankle from his entire leg. Already, anguished by the excruciating pains, the policemen asked him, “Are you Anini?” And he replied, “My brother, I won’t deceive you; I won’t tell you lie, I’m Anini.”

He was from there taken to the police command headquarters where the state’s Police Commissioner, Parry Osayande, was waiting. While in the police net, Anini who had poor command of English and could only communicate in pidgin, made a whole lot of revelations. He disclosed, for instance that Osunbor, who had been arrested earlier, was his deputy, saying that Osunbor actually shot and wounded the former police boss of the state, Akagbosu.

Anini was shot in the leg, transferred to a military hospital, and had one of his legs amputated. That was after Monday Osunbor was also captured. When Anini’s hideout was searched, police recovered assorted charms, including the one he usually wore around his waist during “operations”.

It was instructive that after Anini was captured and dispossessed of his charms, the man who terrorised a whole state and who was supposed to be fearless suddenly became so lilly livered and started singing like a sparrow, making confessions. This was against public expectation of a daredevil hoodlum who would remain defiant to the very end.

Shortly after the arrest of Anini and co, the dare-devil robbers began to squeal, revealing the roles played by key police officers and men, in the aiding and abetting of criminals in Bendel State and the entire
country.

Due to the amputation of his leg, Anini was confined to a wheelchair throughout his trial.
Anini particularly revealed that Chief Supretendent of Police Iyamu, who was the most senior police officer shielding the robbers, would reveal police secrets to them and then, give them logistic supports such as arms, to carry out robbery operations.

He further revealed that Iyamu, after each operation, would join them in sharing the loot. It was further exposed how Iyamu planned to kill Christopher Omeben, an Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Intelligence and Investigation. But Iyamu was later to be disappointed as the assailants dispatched to eliminate Omeben were only able to kill his driver, Otue, a sergeant.

Iyamu, whom the robbers fondly referred to as ‘Baba’, reportedly had choice buildings in Benin City; being how he invested the loots he obtained from men of the underworld. Iyamu, on his part, denied ever knowing and collaborating with Anini. But Anini stood his ground.

Of the 10 police officers Anini implicated, five were convicted. The robbery suspects, including Iyamu, were sentenced to death.

But in passing his judgement, Justice Omo-Agege remarked, “Anini will forever be remembered in the history of crime in this country, but it would be of unblessed memory. Few people if ever, would give the name to their children.” The execution of Anini and the remaining members of his gang took place on the last Saturday of March ,1987. Osunbor and CSP Iyamu had been executed few weeks earlier.

Power to the People!!

…Imo People Accuse Uzodinma Of Commissioning One Water Borehole And One Toilet Attracted By Hon. Ikenna Elezieanya Of PDP

IMO: ARGUMENTS ABOUT STEALING OF PROJECTS

TALK ABOUT TOILET GOVERNOR!

By Ogu Bundu Nwadike, M.A

As we write and read this short essay of facts and figures, there’s an argument about stealing brewing between leaders and members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Imo and Senator Hope Uzodimma over the stealing and commissioning projects that were attracted by Hon. Ikenna Elezianya, the PDP Honourable Member, representing Owerri Municipal, Owerri North, and Owerri West Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.

Indeed, as the Legendary Fela Anikulapo would submit, “Argument about stealing! Somebody don collect the thing wey belong to another person! You be thief! I no be thief! You be arm robber! I no be arm robber! Argument about stealing! Somebody don collect the thing wey belong to another person”! ~ Fela!

The gist of the story is that shameless, shameful and disgraceful as it is, Uzodimma mounted a podium to commission a solar-powered water borehole project and a public toilet project that were attracted by Hon. Elezianya.

Indeed, it was too scary watching Uzodimma commission a borehole and going on to commission a public toilet! Talk about “Toilet Governor”! It was even worse when it was confirmed that they weren’t projects executed by his failed regime! Phew!!

Now, at the project site in Nkwo Orji area of Owerri North LGA, there was the signboard indicating that the projects were attracted by Hon. Elezianya and was constructed by the Federal Ministry of Water Resources, etcetera.

Why then did Uzodimma go to commission Hon. Elezianya’s projects and by extension PDP’s projects? That’s the million dollar question Uzodimma and his Camphope political pressure group must be growing more grey hairs to answer now.

We’ve been told how some fraudulent Camphope loyalists and apologists in Owerri North LGA collected millions of naira from Uzodimma to construct some projects.

We’ve heard about how the fraudulent Camphope loyalists and apologists failed to execute the projects after collecting all the millions.

We’ve also heard about how the fraudulent Camphope loyalists and apologists tricked and deceived Uzodimma to go to the Hon. Elezianya projects and commission them as the projects that they collected millions of naira to execute, but which they stole the money and instead introduced the Hon. Elezianya’s projects for Uzodimma to shamelessly commission.

What we’re waiting to hear next is what Uzodimma will do to save soiled his face under the circumstance of the allegations that the PDP projects were stolen. We and the world are waiting, watching and listening to hear more about the argument about stealing of projects!

By God’s grace, Imo State must be rebuilt!!

Man Bags 10years Imprisonment From Raping A 5year Old Girl In Bayelsa State

Man sentenced to 10 years imprisonment for raping 5-year-old girl to death in Bayelsa

A Bayelsa State High Court sitting in Sagbama, Yenagoa has sentenced a 21-year-old man, Timiondu Jephtath, to 10 years imprisonment for raping a five-year-old girl to death.

The accused raped the girl to death at Akede community in Sagbama Local Government Area of the state in 2016.

It was gathered that Jephtath, who was 16 at the time, dumped her lifeless body in an abandoned fish pond close to his residence.

A lawyer and Gender Advocate, Deme Pamosoo, who acted as the counsel to the victim’s parents ensured that the victim’s body was recovered, an autopsy conducted by the Police and a watertight case file, presented to the State Ministry of Justice for the Director of Public Prosecution recommendation for trial.

The Presiding Judge, Justice E.G Omukoro in his ruling in the suit numbered SHC/4C/2016 with a one-count charge of murder brought against the accused by the State Ministry of Justice, declared that the charge becomes manslaughter due to the inability of the prosecution to prove the intent to commit murder.

In his ruling, after considering the defendant’s plea of allocutus, Justice Omukoro declared that the court is mindful of the youthful age of the defendant who could be redeemed and make amends by way of atonement for his action.

He, therefore ordered that the defendant be detained at the Okaka Correctional Centre in Yenagoa or elsewhere as the Governor may determine, for a period of 10 years at the pleasure of the State.

Reacting to the sentencing, the Acting Chairperson of the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA), Mrs Ebimietei Ekeowei Ottah, described the ruling as a victory to the victims of rape, defilement and violence against women in the state.

“It is a sound warning to the general public that it is no longer business as usual in Bayelsa state. Once you are brought before the law, the law will take its course and catch up with you,” she stated.

“It has been a worrisome practice in Bayelsa State and more worrisome are the issue of negotiation with culprits by parents of victims of defilement or rape. It can no longer be tolerated or swept under the carpet as settlement. We call on parents, teachers, neighbours and guardians to be vigilant and speak out against cases of rape, defilement and violence against women in the state.” she added.
