How to Cook Food the African Way At

African foods are as diverse as the different countries in the continent. Even more as countries have different dishes according to the different native tribes in it.

Statistics show that Africa has 54 countries, more than 3000 tribes and approximately 1.3 billion people. So you can expect the cuisine to be a huge variety of taste, texture, flavours and colours.

Eating African foods for Africans is more than just to satisfy hunger. It is a part of celebrating our unique heritage and therefore it is not strange to see gaiety, music and cultural displays where African food is eaten. This has made occasions such as wedding ceremonies, the birth of a child and in some cases, the burial rites of a patriarch to bring on a display of assorted dishes for all ages and preferences.

Food is also used as medicine in some regions and this phenomenon has been embraced by the advocates of alternative medicine in developed countries.

Here are some African Foods Facts you may already know

Africans are best at growing organic foods. The variety in weather conditions in Africa make it ideal for farming a wide range of food crops and vegetables like okra, yams, potatoes, rice, etc

Africans are known for exotic spices. These can be used to either improve the taste, add a new flavor, or even for medicinal purposes. They could be added fresh or dried and ground to powder. These include ginger, garlic, turmeric, etc

Jollof rice is probably one of the most popular African foods. Countries like Nigeria, Ghana, Senegal and Gambia have their distinct versions of the well-known dish.

Africans enjoy eating a variety of meats eaten with fish. Talk about yummy goodness!

Traditional African meals center around starch and/or grains. Rice, maize, cassava, potatoes are staple foods in almost every African community.

Cooking and serving tasty delicacies have been passed from one generation to the other in different forms.

Traditional way of learning how to cook African Foods

Different people want to learn how to cook African foods for different reasons. Some non-Africans have married Africans and want to cook their native delicacies. Others are culinary enthusiasts or people who love experimenting with different dishes.

Others could even be African who want to learn the dishes of other tribes.

And this knowledge has been passed on from people to people.

1. Word-of-mouth (In-person tutoring)

This is the most common way in which people learnt how to cook African foods. Mothers were tasked with the responsibilities of training their daughters to know how to cook. As they strongly believed that food is the way to a man’s heart. Is that still the case?

You tell me.

In this way, the student and the teacher are in the same place, and the student learns by observation and most times by example.

2. Recipes and Cookbooks: Books are a great source of knowledge and they have been used to store and preserve recipes from different regions. These recipes outline the different ingredients used to prepare the dishes and the cooking methods. They are usually beautifully illustrated and are self-explanatory.

Many people have become experts at preparing meals they learned how to cook from cookbooks.

3. Cooking classes: Remember the Foods & Nutrition Classes back in secondary school? Yes. That is another traditional way of learning how to cook African foods. This could be organized by an individual or by an organization/culinary school.

These classes could be one-off classes for a particular dish or they could be a series of classes to teach different dishes.

The teacher/instructor delivers the lecture so the group of students learn by observation and detailed lectures. To benefit the most from a cooking class, you must quickly practice what has been learned or else you forget. As the saying goes, “practice makes perfect”.

But there is an improved method to learning how to cook African food recipes.

The Use of the Internet to Learn How to Cook African Foods

The internet has been increasingly used to create content that helps people learn how to cook African foods. Security Agents Frowns At Indiscriminate Issuance Of Plate Numbers By Imo House Of Assembly.

Amidst security challenges in the state, the uncontrolled or rather indiscriminate issuance and wrong usage of Imo House of Assembly official vehicle number plates has become a bone of contention between the Imo House of Assembly and Security agents in the state; following the recent kidnap incident where the occupant of a Mercedes 350 4matic jeep with number plate IMHA48, security agents and Imo State House of Assembly are trading words.

According to a security agent who spoke to this reporter, there is an indication that this plate number which was later said to belong to an aide of an Imo lawmaker is not registered with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) which made it difficult for us to trace family of the kidnapped victim.

Paul Emeziem, Speakers IMHA.

The victim of the kidnap episode was identified to be an aide to the lawmaker representing Oru west state constituency.

Security agents said that they have severally called on the leadership of the house about the issuance of official number plates but the practice remains unabated, as virtually all their staff including cooks have official number plates,” he said.

He disclosed that in some cases, lawmakers procure or provide these number plates to friends or associates who are not their personal aides.

Our source disclosed that if the number plate of the kidnap victim was registered it would have been easier to identify who was kidnapped and how to go about his release.

A house of Assembly source who spoke to this reporter, revealed that this issue has been reoccurring especially in the current house led by Hon Paul Emeziem that has not done anything to curtail the indiscriminate issuance of official number plates.

He stated that, those with these unregistered house of assembly number plates spanning from the tenure of late Senator Ben Uwajumogu, the Rt. Hon Acho Ihim and Rt Hon Chiji Collins are still with these number plates.

When contacted on the allegation or suspicion that the transport officer of the assembly may have been collecting #50,000 each to issue these numbers, the transport officer Mr Samuel Ofoegbu denied the allegation, saying that on none account did he collect money from anyone to issue number plate.

Security agents have complained that culprits use these number plates to commit various frauds or crimes including kidnapping.

When contacted Hon Nelson Ezerioha confirmed that the victim of the kidnap is his personal aide who was on his return trip from Anambra state where he went for a transaction when he was kidnapped.

Re-opening Of Schools Many School Still Under Lock And Keys In Imo State

After the government announcement on school reopening in Imo State and subsequent use of face mask to curb the reigning pandemic covid-19, there have been many feelings about it.

Many people interviewed on street agreed with the government but still expressed their fear on measures on the side of government and school operators including teachers to manager the situation but maintained that school will not be closed for too long as students has lost many periods already.

A vist to Mbieri Secondary Technical School in Mbaitolu Local Government Area shows that neither teachers nor students were around, as grass has taken over the school environs and the class rooms taken over by miscreants who visits there regularly for the smoking of weeds.

Also at LA primary school Awo Mbieri the story was not different as no pupil or teachers were seen.

We hope that soonest activities will be a return in our schools.

God help us.

Dusk To Dawn Curfew In Orlu Zone As Millitants Unleash Terror On Citizens.

Sequel to the shooting in Orlu a disk to dawn curfew had been imposed in the ten Local Governments of Orlu Zone, this was made public by the governor Senator Hope Uzodinma during a press briefing today. Below is his full speech at the briefing.

This afternoon, I received a very disturbing report on the activities of a group of Militants who unleashed a shooting spree in the Orlu area of the state, killing and maiming innocent citizen in the process

I am totally appalled by this sad report which appears to paint a picture of near breakdown of law and order in the Orlu area. The government condemns in its entirety this act of extreme hooliganism and brigandage. This is completely unacceptable to this administration. Those behind this callous barbarism will surely regret their actions.

Consequently, I have directed the security agencies to fish out without fail, all those behind the carnage and immediately bring them to book. Let no one be in any doubt that the perpetrators of this dastardly act will ever escape justice. I assure them that they will pay for for their cruelty against a peace loving, innocent people

As an interim measure to immediately restore the peace in Orlu zone, a dusk to dawn curfew (6 pm to 6 am) is hereby imposed in the following Local Government Areas of Orlu zone; namely; Orlu, Orsu, Oru East, Oru West, Ideato North, Ideao South, Njaba, Isu, Nwangele and Nkwerre.

All law-abiding citizens are advised to comply strictly with the curfew as announced. Anyone caught violating the curfew will be treated as a suspect.

The government wants to assure all Imo people that the situation in Orlu area is under control. Security operatives have been deployed on a 24-hour patrol of the zone. Equally, every security measure necessary has been put in place to ensure that law-abiding citizens can go about their businesses in the affected areas without any fear of molestation.

The government sincerely condones with the families of the bereaved and all the victims of the unfortunate incident. I assure them that those who committed the heinous crime against them and their loved ones will never go unfurnished.

Sen. Hope Uzodimma
Governor, Imo State

HOW UZODIMMA CAN WIN THE WAR FOR THE SOUL OF IMO

By: ONWUASOANYA FCC JONES

Am Imo based social media influencer and a Stuch follower of former governor of the state and current senator representing Orlu zone Owelle Rochas Okorocha, Onwuasonya FCC Jones has suggested to the governor of Imo State Hope Uzodinma ways to win the hearts of imoloites.

It is not in doubt that the governor of my State is at war with everyone and everything but bad governance and corruption. He seems to have been advised that the only way he can gain ground in Imo is by intimidating those who do not agree with him into submission or running them out of town. But whoever advised the governor that way, either does not know Imolites or sincerely doesn’t love the governor. Imolites are resilient and highly enlightened people. You can’t stampede them into loving you, you will have to convince them, confuse them or if you are dangerously smart, deceive them.

In a chat with someone over happenings in Imo State, a longtime friend and one of those openly supportive of Chief Hope Uzodimma told me that the governor is struggling to win the soul of the State, that at the moment, the governor is like a stranger to most Imolites. Even though my friend blamed political opponents and critics of the governor for his obvious estrangement with the people he governs, what we agreed with is that the governor has a lot of job to do, if he must win the soul of the State and until he does that, he will be “a floating governor”.

A Nigerian politician has no bigger enemy than the friends who flutter around him because of the office he occupies and what they aim to benefit from that office. These individuals, are only interested in telling the politician what would please him rather than what would help him. However, some politicians who have performed exceptionally in office have been able to do that, because they hear beyond the mostly distorted tunes of the sycophants and listen to the bitter truth from their critics.

Governor Hope Uzodimma is held hostage by this band of hailers, who will eventually hail him to his waterloo, if he is not careful, or lucky. These people are telling him that his biggest achievement would be in opening many political warfronts, instead of advising him to concentrate on winning the hearts and support of Imolites, especially, given the controversial circumstances surrounding his emergence as governor.

No matter what anyone may want to tell the governor, the truth is that majority of Imolites and Nigerians see him as a product of backhand dealings in the judiciary and conspiracy among the political elite. He cannot clean off this taint on his mandate by fighting everyone who does not agree with him, politically, but can at least make Imolites and Nigerians forgive what most of them believe is; “the biggest electoral fraud and judicial coup perpetrated in this fourth republic”, by surprising Imolites with good governance.

While one may concede that there are few attempts being made at giving impression of governance taking place in Imo State, no one is deceived, not even the governor himself, that Imo is bleeding from bad governance. Even the governor’s most vocal promoters, especially, his Commissioner for Information, Declan Emelumba and his SA on Print (Local), Nwamkpa Modestus have hardly mustered the courage to tell the world that their boss is doing well. You either read them giving excuses on why Governor

Uzodimma has failed to perform or on their good days, they would sell hope to their fastly depleting audience about how the governor will confound his critics with the magic of good governance. Invariably, they concede that the man from Omuma is still fluffing while Imolites suffer.

In all the indices of measuring good governance, the Uzodimma administration cannot be genuinely rated beyond 2/10. This is a pathetic reality, which those who love him should bring to his attention. If he can at least raise his performance level to up to 4/10, he would have succeeded in winning a good part of his war with his perceived and real political enemies, as he would have secured the trust of majority of ordinary Imolites.

The average Impolite is not interested in whatever political wars he wages with his fellow elite, but they cannot be convinced that the governor is doing anything with the interest of the masses at heart, when businesses are closing down rapidly in the State, jobs are being lost on daily basis and government workers feel duped by the government, while the road infrastructure is in its worse state ever. Criminals are on rampage across the State and hospitals are overflowing with patients who are hardly receiving adequate care, because health workers are either owed or angry that the government treats them with disdain.

The truth is that if Governor Uzodimma feels that his predecessors were all failures in governance then, he should give Imolites a better experience of governance. If the assessment of majority of Imolites about his administration is anything to go by, then, any Imolite would prefer even the worst of all the past governors to the current regime of absurdity.

Me; Could this be possible both for the governor and the good people of Imo? We are watching

MAY IMO WIN!

Trouble For APC As National Working Committee Members Shouts At Each Other In Abuja

Trouble broke out on Thursday in Abuja as some members of the All Progressives Congress National Caretaker Committee engaged in a shouting match at the party’s national headquarters in Abuja.
It was at the inauguration of the party’s National Registration Committee headed by Niger State Governor Abdullahi Bello.
Shouts of “who are you to tell us what to do,” “who made you boss over us”, etc, rend the air. Some of the committee members could not hide their anger.

The Chairman of the Cretaker Committee, Governor Mai Mala Buni, could be heard in the background shouting down another national committee member who also appear uncontrollable.

It was not clear last night what the vexed issue was all about, but the disagreement was a disturbing development.

It was learnt the rancorous situation attracted the attention of some staff at the secretariat.

They immediately rushed to the executive floor to see what was happening. The shouting could be heard on all the floors in the secretariat located at Wuse Zone 5, Abuja.

In the melee, two of the national caretaker members stormed out of the meeting, with one saying loudly that there was fire on the mountain.

No member of the caretaker committee or staff of the secretariat was ready to speak on the development when approached last night for comments.

Six People Died Today As Truck Fell On Two Imo Buses In Owerri

Everyday as you go out pray to God for His Protection and guidance, many who said happy new year on first of January are dead while some are buried.

Many died on ghastly motor accident, others fire and some sickness, so any day you went out and came back safely, kneel and thank God, then live a Godly life and prepare for Eternity.

At least six people have been confirmed dead in a ghastly motor accident which occurred this afternoon along Assumpta Avenue precisely at the Mmiri Nworie bridge allegedly caused by prisons officers blowing their siren to scare away motorists…

The prison officials who were being blocked by the truck harassed the truck driver with siren who swerved and missed his direction and landed on two Bus Imo vehicles and plunged into the river, killing six occupants who were said to be alive for two hours without help coming from nowhere before giving up the ghost!!!

Imo Government should enforce the 6pm to 6pm movement of trucks immediately to save lives and ENTRACO empowered with CRANES to assist whenever such a terrible accident happens!!!!

Also drivers should be re-trained and seminars organized for them on road usage. Most importantly the security AGENTS should be warned on reckless Driving and use of SIRINE.

Rest in peace to the dead!!!

Pastor Thinks Of House On The Rock Dies Of Covid-19

One of the Pastors of Lagos-based church, House on the Rock, Pastor Yinka Akinbami, has died after contracting the novel Coronavirus. Pastor Akinbami died on Friday, January 8.

Pastor with House on the Rock Church dies of COVID-19

Senior Pastor of the church, Paul Adefarasin, announced his passing on social media and paid glowing tribute to the late clergyman who he described as a good man.

Pastor Adefarasin in his tribute warned Nigerians to take the COVID19 pandemic seriously and adhere to all the protocols.

Yesterday, I received the rude and shocking news of someone deeply dear to me and all of the House on the Rock family. The passing of Pastor Yinka Akinbami has become most painful because if there truly were good men, he was certainly one.

Till his passing, Pastor Akinbami was one of the senior presbyters of our church and has been with us for over 25-years, serving in the Family Life Directorate, coaching many exemplary men and women as they embarked upon the journey of building families.

Egbon Yinka,

your sudden passage is hard to understand, yet we bow respectfully to the sovereignty of God while we remain thankful for the decades of impactful work along with the exemplary life you lived while you were with us. As a dear egbon to me, even though you were older, we were close friends and I thank you for allowing me to be your pastor and spiritual father. The thought that I will return to church and not see you again on this side of the divide, is unbelievable. I have not been able to process this loss, however, I am sure of how much we will all miss you.

Family, kindly allow me to solicit your intercession for his dear wife of over 30 years; Pastor Tolu, his children, his children-inlaw, and grandchildren. We can only at best imagine how much pain they are feeling. We share the pain of his loss but they will feel it a lot more. So, please pray that God’s peace and strength envelopes them especially in this difficult moment.

It’s important to remind the community about the deadly nature of Covid-19 and its mutant virus strains. Please do your part by following all the recommended precautions. That way, you are able to protect yourself and others who become proximal to you. God bless and keep us all.

To my brother, Yinka Akinbami, sleep well till we meet to part no more.

Adieu to our fellow soldier

Imo Workers To Stay At Home From 21st December Without Salary -Covid-19

Broadcast By Governor Hope Uzodinma Of Imo State On The Resurgence Of COVID-19, On Sunday December 20th,2020.

My dear good people of Imo State, it is with a great sense responsibility that I address you on this auspicious season of Christmas. In normal times, with just a few days to Christmas, I should be saying a very happy Christmas in advance to you. But the times are far from normal. The dreaded Coronavirus pandamic, otherwise known as Covid 19, is back in town at full speed.

While I truly wish all of us a happy Christmas celebration in advance, I am duty bound to ensure that this should not be the last Christmas any of us will celebrate with his loved ones. This may sound scary but it is a grim possibility if we do not take urgent protective steps to stop Coronavirus on its tracks.

There is a great global resurgence of the dreaded virus. With the reopening of international flights, movement of people across the globe is back on full stream. This has aided further spread of the virus. It is usual that at this Christmas season, our relations and friends from across the world and Nigeria will be coming home. Expectedly there is bound to be a great human traffic surge in Imo State. This ofcourse comes with its full implications for the spread of Covid 19.

Already the effect of this frightful global resurgence and spike in Covid 19 infections is manifest in the country and Imo State.

Since October the number of cases in the country, which hitherto seemed to be reducing, has been on a rapid rise. From 225 confirmed new cases in October, the number has risen to a frightful level of 77,933 in December. Yesterday,19th December alone 920 new confirmed cases were recorded in the country, with 6 deaths .In Imo State the situation is no less frightening. Recent PCR-Based tests carried out in the state in accordance with the guidelines of the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), reveal a frightful upward surge in the confirmed cases curve. As of last week, no less than 32 persons were confirmed positive with Covid 19.

Sadly, while the grim realities of increasing Covid 19 infections continues to confront us every day, a general complecency and false sense of safety amongst our people to Covid 19 safety protocols remain the order of the day. This trend must be reversed in the interest of everyone. The time to do so is NOW. The imminent danger posed by the human traffic surge occasioned by the season, makes immediate and drastic steps in this direction both cogent and urgent.

In this respect I want to emphasise that there is absolute need to avoid gathering of crowds of more than 100 people anywhere in the state. Where such crowds must gather, those involved MUST wear face masks.

There should be wash hand stands readily available with achohol based sanitisers at such gatherings.

To further strengthen safety measures, all government workers are to stay at home from tomorrow, Monday, December 21, till further notice, except for permanent secretaries and political appointees. This means that the state secretariat, which is a major crowd puller, will remain closed, from tomorrow, to the public until further notice.

In addition, wearing of face masks in public is henceforth absolutely compulsory. Mobile courts have been deployed all over the state to try any person caught without wearing face masks.

Equally, all Covid 19 safety protocols will henceforth be strictly enforced. These include provision of wash hand stands and sanitisers in markets and worship places. Any person or persons caught not observing these safety protocols will be summarily prosecuted in the Mobile courts.

As we enforce the safety protocols and monitor the situation, we shall regularly review developments to determine further measures that may be necessary.

My beloved Imo people, as I earlier said, I will not want this Christmas to be the last for any of us. Let us take these safety protocols serious and observe them tenaciously. It is in the interest of all of us to do so.

I wish you a happy and safe Christmas celebration. Please do all you must to remain safe. Your life is important to Imo State.

Thank you all and Godbless

Sen Hope Uzodimma
Governor

Life Is An Invitation To Contribution And Not To Consume -Jamie Pajoel

The Chairman Vantage Group Hon. Jamie Pajoel has urged all people especially those who are better in the society to see life as an invitation to contribute to others meaningfully to the less privileged ones in the society.

He made this know in a release forth night ago while celebrating his birthday.

Pajoel who has been into capacity building/empowerment for years now challenged other well to do in the society to their status as an opportunity to serve the mankind and help them meaningfully.

“Life is an invitation to CONTRIBUTE and not to CONSUME “

In his exact words, My entire life has been continually driven by a singular, compelling focus: what makes the difference in the quality of people’s lives? How is it that so often people from such humble beginnings and devastating backgrounds manage despite their hardships to create lives that inspire us?

What makes some people living examples and others a warning? What is the secret that creates passionate, happy and grateful lives in many? What precedes all our actions? What determines what action we take, and therefore, who we become, and what our ultimate destination is in life?

The answer lies in what you already know-DECISION MAKING!

The decision to become a person of value, is what I often refer to as a great turning point in my life. This turning point brought about a positive transformation in who I am and the way I currently live my life. It turned my negative, closed mindset into a broad, positive and open approach to life.

Today, I am grateful to GOD and thankful to my ever amazing wife and to everyone that have played a role in my life.

Just for today, allow me to be the birthday boy. 👦 😀😀😃

We at the New Media Galaxy Firm celebrates with you. Congratulations.

NYESOM WIKE: THE EVIL THAT WILL DESTROY PDP

Nyesom Wike: The Evil That Will Destroy PDP Every body that have been reading my articles know that I am not the type that dwell in Nigeria …

Every body that have been reading my articles know that I am not the type that dwell in Nigeria dirty politics. I don’t play PDP vs APC jamboree. For me, Nigeria politics is dirty and there is no hope for Nigeria in this present crop of politicians. However, the events of recent days, or should I say months can’t be ignored.

Just few days ago, the incumbent Governor of Ebonyi State, David Umahi, made an announcement of his decamp from the People’s Democratic Party, PDP into the All Progressives Congress, APC. This announcement didn’t go down well with the Rivers state Governor, Nyesom Wike.

Wike went on to grant interview and press releases on how Umahi is selfish and trying to harm the people of South East. He accused Umahi of wanting to be president and not considering his people when pursuing his personal ambition. Wike can no longer fool us again. He is fighting for his own ambition too. Like Umahi wanted to be president, Wike also want to stand behind a Northerner as his Vice president.

Truth be told, Governor Wike has previously been a governor after the people’s heart. Not that he is different from other governors, or doesn’t steal public fund like his other counterparts, but he has kind of played into the sentiments of the people. He became that voice the people needed against a reckless government in the centre.

We are living in a Nigeria where it seems the ruling class, especially those at the federal level have ganged up against the people. For some time, Wike provided the needed opposition the people needed at that perilous times.

Even IPOB members, who detested the politicians in Nigeria whose unbridled love for corruption and looting of the national resources knows no bounds, had loved Governor Wike and held him to a very high esteem. This is why despite IPOB’s stance on election boycott, the IPOB Leader’s voice was heard thundering from radio, urging people to deliver Wike. Something they never did for any other political aspirant, except Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe.

But like the saying goes, ‘power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely.” Sadly, Governor Wike, due to his uncanny ambition to become a vice president and probably be on the good book of the Fulani people, unleashed mayhem on the Indigenous Igbo people in Obigbo. Wike went on to deny being Igbo, just like his Fulani pay masters ordered him. But he never knew the gravity of his actions.

What Governor Wike used Nigeria Military to do in Obigbo is a very outrageous crime against humanity. The media have been talking about what happened at #Lekkitollgate, but the truth remains that something more heinous happened in Obigbo. Under days of unrelaxed curfew, Governor Wike used Nigeria Military to commit genocide on Igbo people in the name of fighting IPOB members. Hundreds of people were killed in Obigbo and many more are still missing. Some analysts are saying that what Wike did was an assignment given to him by Fulani North, before he can be used by PDP as a vice president to a Northern candidate.

Being a deputy to a Northerner has been something South South and South East Governors are desperately craving for and even falling on top of themselves over it. Many have betrayed their own people just to buy into the heart of the Fulani North. But Governor Wike took it to all time high. He needed to show his Fulani masters that he is a willing slave.

One thing I keep saying is that Governor Wike has killed his political career with what he executed in Obigbo, and should PDP make the mistake of making Governor Wike their president or vice-presidential candidate, then know it that PDP is gone forever.

To start with, any candidate Governor Wike anoints in Rivers State will surely fail. Maybe this is the time for other ethnic groups in Rivers State to take over the mantle of leadership in Rivers State. Wike, unless he decamps to APC and become the pitiable slave he is, he will be totally disgraced. Tell me how a man in the opposition, without the good wishes of the people, will win?

People wrongly called Wike the Lion and it got into his head. They say he defeated Chibuike Amaechi even though he(Amaechi) has Federal might, but it is all lies. What happened was that the people fought and stood with Governor Wike. Someone, an IPOB lady narrated to me how she trekked a long distance only to vote for and defend her vote for the ungrateful Governor Wike.

A lot of people paid the ultimate prize. Tell me who will still do this for an ungrateful soul like Governor Wike? Your real supporters as a politician are not those you pay money to write or sing praises for you, but those that genuinely love you. They are the people Governor Wike killed in Obigbo and even brag that he has no regrets killing them. The Fulani are wise, they can never trust a man who killed his supporters that made him governor, because he wants to become the vice president. Who knows what a man that killed his brother for power will do to an outsider.

People should say a befitting rest in peace to PDP should they contaminate themselves with a dubious and murderous personality like Governor Wike. He will be randomly disgraced. People, even his Ikwere brothers will reject him. Even Amaechi is waiting for the right time to strike. It will be an election between Governor Wike and the people. And surely, the people will win.

That’s if Nigeria will live to see 2023. That’s if the politicians doesn’t pay for their treachery against the people before that time.

I rest my case. Watch and see it happen.

RT. HON. KENNEDY IBEH A POPE BEFORE THE CONCLAVE

Sometimes we have to look at issues critically above the facial value and avoid being hastily in drawing conclusions.I am highly elated to be asked to dive into the circumstances that may have deprived our own Rt. Hon. Kennedy Ibeh from being a better and more qualified replacement for the impeached speaker of Imo House of Assembly. I know a lot of insinuations from different quarters are pointing accusing fingers on some of the political leaders in Obowo but the reason I believe is far from it.A lot of factors are working in concert against the Obowo speakership project which we all are looking forward to. But we definitely need to know that the politics of becoming a speaker is not just a Legislative affair alone though fifty percent chances is credited to the intrest of the Legislative members who inturn marry their intrest with that of the sitting governor who may influence such intrest via lobbying
members to get the majority on his side.
It is obvious that any governor without command on the speaker finds it difficult to sell or market bills in the house and is always put on fear of possible impeachment at any given opportunity. One can never be a Pope before the conclave and It takes a white smoke to produce one even if it has to tarry for so long.
Hon. Barr.. Kennedy Ibeh is a young intelligent and ambitious man, whose political strength is driven by self motivations and financial independence above his contemporaries who also see him as an intimidating collosus.
Hon. Kennedy Ibeh is an unpredictable politician whose focus is to rise above board via using formidable structures under his design and control and would stop at nothing until he achieves his aim.It is obvious that Hon Kennedy Ibeh is a strong voice and the centre mouth piece of Imo House of Assembly, dreaded by any governor for his legislative intelligence and intimidating qualities of a grassroot commander.
Here is a man that commands the largest grassroot structure in the State and has his followers scattered across so many rival structures just to keep afloat. As a team player, his colleagues always rally around him when the chiefs are down and depends on him when it comes to designing the legislative architecture and driving their demands home to the governor’s desk and actions while he masqurades behind the curtains. If really by our judgement Rt. Hon. Kennedy Ibeh commands high respect and confidence among other House members what stops them from nominating him to the post of speakership let alone voting for him.
The reasons behind Rt. Hon.Kennedy Ibeh not becoming a speaker is interwoven in his ambitions to become one as his colleagues who are mostly interested in what they can grab from government rather than the legislative duties will prefer to align with the governor for a fatter benefit and still remain caged from rendering the legislative duties. As one who understands the business of the House of Assembly no governor would want to hand over his impeachment warrant to a speaker he has no control over his functions.

The truth is that Hon. Kennedy Ibeh will make a good speakership and would want to run an independent legislative arm devoid of governors influence but the calibre of persons elected into the Imo House of Assembly are not in consonants and in alignment to his ambitionns and ambitiously becoming a speaker is still a mirage.
Speakers are elected behind the curtains key positions also negotiated before coming to the pubic gallery to formalize the decisions and play the game as decided by the legislative caucus.I don’t think we should at this point acuse anyone in Obowo for sitting on the ambition of Rt. Hon.Kennedy Ibeh in becoming a speaker, we should also be informed that if the governor wants him he will be one and if his colleagues are wise enough and believe in quality legislation he will also have their support to be one.
For us that believes that quality leadership has a lot to do in making life better for the rural populace via providing the basic amenities to enhance both human and capital developments the major drive in our honorable member remains to POSITION OBOWO BETTER and his colleagues are more concerned in positioning themselves better. The crisis and devise intrest in APC is also another factor limiting this speakership ambitions, it is quite clear that the APC that brought the governor into power is not in alignment with the APC structure that brought Rt. Hon. Kennedy Ibeh to the House. So is even difficult for him to be empowered to do his oversight functions .

The craze for leadership power in Obowo is also a mitigating factor that is behind some of our leaders in the power corridors not showing concern towards fronting the speakership ambition. Trading their nomenclature positions to support Rt. Hon. Kennedy Ibeh speakership ambition is an impossible task which if you and I are in their shoes we would not trade either. Anyway that’s politics for you, but in all if it is a divine project it will surely be and no man born of woman can stop it.Let him remain focus in his legislative career and focus on legislations to better Obowo be a team player and shun any incitement against any Obowian son or daughter.

#EndSARS Saga: Founder Arise Africa Network Condemns Killings, Destruction of Properties, Charge Govt to Sit Up, Says Is High for a Restructured Nigeria

The Chief Executive Officer of popular Arise Africa Magazine, Ikechukwu Anyanwu has condemned in its entirety the wanton killings and destruction of properties by hoodlums and security agents in the wake of the heated nationwide youth peaceful #EndSARS protests that was later hijacked and call on the Federal government to give listening ear to the cries of well meaning Nigerians especially the youths who are said to be leaders of tomorrow.

Reacting more to the ugly incidents that later characterized the nationwide peaceful protests by Nigerian youths, Anyanwu who doubles as the Chairman of Imo state chapter of Online Media Practitioners Association of Nigeria, OMPAN, commiserate with the victims of the Lekki shooting and all other victims of violence including security agents who lost their lives and properties as well as those who got injured during the protests adding that he is really looking forward to an end to the whole crisis.

“We will not forget in a hurry, the ugly and sad events at the Lekki toll plaza on Tuesday October 20, 2020 and the subsequent wanton destruction of public and private assets”

Anyanwu expressed concern that the hijack of the EndSARS protests by suspected hoodlums, looters and arsonists and the chain reactions that followed is not only saddening but capable of undermining the genuine and noble agitation of the Nigerian youths.

“That incident should never have been if peaceful protesters had not been confronted with live bullets and innocent lives lost in the process.”

“Anyone who makes light of this situation is not doing the country any good. Am happy that the President in his speech said the voice of the youths has been heard loud and clear”

He also condemed the inhumane treatment and ongoing terror unleashed on the people of Oyigbo, Rivers State.

“Not quite long ago, Nigerians from all walks of life took to the streets crying out with one voice against Police Brutality yet we are witnessing brutality right now at Oyigbo, Rivers State”
“I hope our leaders are listening and looking inwards for a lasting solution. I believe it’s high time we saved the Nation by Restructuring and be Reforming not only the Nigerian Police Force but the country as a whole.”

“Let’s embrace peace, dialogue and constructively engage with authorities at all levels of government to bring about a lasting solution and an end to these crises”

“We call on the Federal Government to intervene in the ongoing killings at Oyibo Rivers State. Nigeria is our destined home before our journey here on Earth. We must as a people respect the sanctity of human life”

The Arise Africa boss noted that the mindless destruction, looting, spate of violent attacks and arson across the country underscores and brings to the front burner the urgent need for Reform.

He stressed that nation building is a collective task and all hands has to be on deck to bring about lasting solutions to the challenges and problems the country is facing.

“Government should start addressing the prevalent needs of the citizens Instead of trying to gag the press by slamming fines on the media houses that reported these incidence.

“Government should dialogue with the people, Government at all levels should start listening to the yearnings of the people. The voice of the people is the voice of the gods. We want a paradigm shift in this country.”

Anyanwu called on social media Influencers, bloggers, Journalist, Opinion moulders, traditional rulers, religious leaders, civil society organizations, women associations and youth groups to call on the Federal and State Governments to restore peace, normalcy and order in the country.

We have charged the members of the newly inaugurated Interim Management Committee of Imo State Transport Corporation (ITC) to go after all the stolen assets of the company, recover them from wherever they are found and whoever that is with them.

The members are to recover all lands belonging to ITC that are within and outside Imo State, including all the parks belonging to ITC that are spread in the 36 States of the federation and FCT.

Performing the inauguration ceremony at the Imo State Executive Council Chambers Government House Owerri, today, Governor Hope Uzodinma enjoined the committee to recover and rehabilitate all abandoned structures owned by ITC anywhere they are located.

I encouraged the committee to take a critical look at the ITC nominal roll and retire all the criminals among them, remove the fraudulent individuals there and restore the past glory of ITC.

The eight-member Committee who were inaugurated include: Mr. Onyekachi Ibezim (Chairman), Deputy

Superintendent of Police (DSP) Kazeem Adefisoye, Mr. Chibuzor Nwoke, Chief Emmanuel Ndukwe, Mr. Nwogu Emeka Mathew, Mr. Kenneth Nwachukwu, Princess Chioma Okafor and Mr. Vitalis Ugochukwu.

For emphasis, the goal set for the comittee has become expedient because most of the past managers of the company went there, enriched themselves, impoverished the company and established parallel companies using the assets and finances of ITC.

Regrettably, the attitude made ITC which was once found everywhere in Nigeria, blossoming as a going concern, to crumble – a situation that destroyed and diminished the lofty vision of late Dee Samuel Onunaka Mbakwe, the first civilian Governor of old Imo State.

It is time to recover ITC.

The 3R-matra of our administration – reconstruction, rehabilitation and recovery – must apply to the State’s mismanaged transport company.

I urged the Committee members to align themselves with our administration’s vision, the reason they were chosen for the job.

Do Well To Maintain Peace In Your Own Interest – Buhari To Nigerian Youths

President Muhammadu Buhari says Nigerian youth will do well to keep peace as it is in their own interest.

According to a statement by Femi Adesina, presidential spokesman, Buhari spoke when he received Amina Mohammed, deputy secretary-general of the United Nations, at the presidential villa, on Monday.

Buhari, who was reacting to the recent #EndSARS protest and the mayhem that came in its wake, reminded the youth that “our own generation is on the last lap; we are exiting” and that the youth should maintain peace and order.

“It is in the interest of the youth to keep the peace. They want jobs, infrastructure, and development.

“I have sent a team led by the Chief of Staff, Prof. Ibrahim Gambari, to go round the country, talk to traditional rulers, who will then talk to the youth. The views of the youth have been heard.”

The president also said his administration inherited severe infrastructural deficits and that the government is doing its best with the available limited resources.

“That is what we are fighting to correct. We can’t just sit, fold our hands, and do nothing. We are doing our best within the limits of resources,” he said.

The president had earlier said the federal government would not fold its arms and allow “miscreants and criminals continue to perpetrate acts of hooliganism in the country”.

VON DG Okechukwu Begs APC Leaders,Others To Key Into Buhari’s Agric Revolution

A chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress APC and Director General, Voice of Nigeria VON, Mr Osita Okechukwu has appealed to Nigerians, particularly leaders of the APC to key into the agricultural blueprint of President Muhammadu Buhari which he said is the surest way of meeting the presidential mandate to lift 100 million Nigerians out of poverty in the next 10 years

Mr Okechukwu have the charge on Monday on Abuja during an interactive session with journalists.

He said; “Permit me to use this forum to appeal to all Nigerians to buy into the Buhari Agrarian Revolution – #BUGREV, as a Road Map to Nigeria’s Resorgimento.

Our people, especially the teeming youths and women, are yet to embrace this milestone as expected; hence one sincerely appeals to the fourth estate of the realm to join the enlightenment crusade and spread the good news.
“#BUGREV (Buhari’s Agrarian Revolution), which was launched on 17th November 2015, in the early stages of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration, is a policy dear to Mr President’s heart and indeed his initiative touches on our common heritage and our uncommon Almighty God’s endowment.

“Guess what, even the membership and leadership of my great party that initiated the programme more or less ignored or did not accord it the import and urgency required. This is why I am making this passionate appeal to all Nigerians via the media”.

According to him, rice paddy production in Nigeria increased from 325,000 tonnes in 1969 to 5.1 million metric tonnes in 2019, growing at an average annual rate of 8.76 percent.

“Without prejudice to our Oil and Gas reserves, the innovation of our youths in the tech ecosystem, and our Small and Medium scale entrepreneurial skills, is the main beacon to actualisation of our giant status in Africa. As our subsistence farmers migrate to commercial farmers, we migrate from potential giant to substantive giant of Africa”, he explained.

Okechukwu noted that with massive mobilization, the agrarian revolution will balance Nigeria’s external trade deficit, assist in no small measure in offsetting her foreign loans and enhance her economic diplomacy.

“The truism is that in the five decades post 1970 Nigeria, almost two generations in sociological terms, no military Head of State or civilian President has deeply thought of pragmatically shifting our attention back to agriculture, mobilised men and material nor committed so much homogenous amount of money in the transformation and modernisation of agriculture in Nigeria than President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR.

“Hence the hashtag – #BUGREV (Buhari’s Agrarian Revolution), the untold story of bottom-top model of revival of agriculture, back to land, redistribution of income and construction of egalitarian society seamlessly. The agrarian revolution is, in other words, the solution and indeed panacea to palpable discontent, despair, gross unemployment and gross inequality in the country. We are among the top ten most populous countries of the world and we have the single honour of median age advantage of youths making over 60%. China, India and even USA do not have that median youth advantage, only Brazil and Indonesia approximate our ranking. However, this advantage also has disadvantages, this is what #BUGREV is set to correct.

“In other words, my canvas is that with #BUGREV our quest to lift 100 million people out of poverty in 10 years, the urgent need to halt all manner of insecurity bedevilling us and the imperative to reduce the stark economic inequality rests squarely on back to land.

“Even our desire for devolution of powers or restructuring will make better sense, and be more meaningful, for without economic prosperity, resorgimento of the middle class; restructuring no matter how well designed will only reinforce the Emperorship of our Governors. Therefore, it will spice our shared intendment for devolution of powers. This is a task that we must all embark on.

“The old axiom maintains that the happier and more prosperous the citizenry the less they succumb to the allure of stomach infrastructure and the more they enhance internal democracy. This is the bedrock of true democracy.

“Accordingly, in my candid opinion, #BUGREV is the Utility Bolt, to upgrade not only the 70% of Nigerians who are already in subsistence farming, but to motivate and mobilise more people, especially youths and women into agriculture”, he stated.

Ohanaeze Presidency: 9 More Igbo Groups Back Prof Osuagwu

By Stanley Emejuru.

As the contest for the leadership of the apex Igbo sociocultural group, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, inches closer, various Igbo groups and prominent leaders have begun to shop for the most qualified candidate who possesses the needed character, competence and credibility to lead the Igbo Nation.

The position, which has been zoned to Imo State, is expected to be a hotly contested one, unless the stakeholders are able to find a common ground and put a consensus candidate forward. Following a survey published recently by the Igbo Rebirth Movement (IRM), a group of young Igbo professionals in Nigeria and the Diaspora, which showed Professor Chidi Osuagwu as the most acceptable candidate for the coveted seat, many other Igbo groups have come out to endorse Osuagwu for the position.A statement issued in Connecticut, USA, by Dr. Paul Orafu, leader of the Pan-Igbo Integrity Group, on behalf his group and eight other Diaspora associations of Ndigbo insists that, “The priority of the Igbo everywhere in the world is to think home. Our people desire to make Igboland great, safe, peaceful and prosperous. Our interest in the leadership of Ohanaeze stems from our recognition that there is need for a robust platform to bring our people together and set the agenda for our collective development. Ohanaeze is the veritable platform to make it happen.

“However, we need a leadership in Ohanaeze which we can trust; a leadership that is imbued with integrity, vision and patriotism, which will place the welfare of Ndigbo above pecuniary gains. Among all the nominees we have considered, Prof. Chidi Osuagwu stands out. We see in him a man of unblemished character, who has led an upright life and excelled in all things through the power of trust.

“A look at Igboland today reveals an entity that is lagging behind in the very basic things of life. Our land today occupies a top position in almost all indices of social misery. It is only a leadership in Ohanaeze which has integrity that can mobilize our people and begin to permanently address the problems.

“We therefore endorse Prof. Osuagwu for Ohanaeze Ndigbo Presidency, and plead with him to answer this call which Ndigbo are passionately making to him,” they implored.

Earlier, an IRM opinion poll had disclosed that, “We have painstakingly carried out this survey among the various Igbo groups and opinion leaders, and everyone keeps pointing at one thing: Ndigbo need a leader that can reunite the people. They need a leader who has the needed integrity to win the trust of everyone and reestablish a broad agenda for the development of Igboland. Our people sorely crave for a leader whose reputation, pragmatism and deep insight can reposition Ndigbo in national affairs and bring about respect to the Igbo Nation.

“He must be a person who has in all consistency and sincerity made himself available to serve the ordinary people even in a thankless capacity. A person who has demonstrated a commitment to overlook earthly possessions to stand for his people. A person who is morally untainted and intellectually astute. A person who through charisma, character and courage has earned an unprecedented following, and who is altruistic and compassionate. These should constitute the personality traits needed now. And Prof. Chidi Osuagwu represents the choice of the majority.

OHANAEZE NDIGBO PRESIDENCY: Why Osuagwu Is The Best Choice Amongst Others – IRM Survey.

By Emma NdukwuThe next President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo will come from Imo State. This is in line with the zoning formula of the pan-Igbo group that rotates the office in alphabetical order among the Igbo-speaking states. All of Abia, Anambra, Delta, Ebonyi and Enugu have had moments in the coveted office.Only Imo and Rivers states are yet to have, and in a couple of months from now an Imo man would be seated at Gulf Court Estate in Enugu as President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, grappling with the challenges of Ndigbo and the solutions thereof. To ensure that the best emerges from Imo State, a group of Igbo patriots under the auspices of Igbo Rebirth Movement (IRM) have outlined a set of criteria which the group believes should guide the choice of whom Imo will put forward for the job.A survey conducted by the group over the last four months has also favoured the renowned academic and consummate administrator, Prof. Chidi Osuagwu, as the most qualified to lead the apex Igbo group, Ohanaeze Ndigbo.A release by the group, which was signed by its spokesperson, Dr. Gerald Emeribe, and made available to newsmen on Monday maintained that the choice of Osuagwu was based on the power of his unassailable integrity and general acceptability among all classes and social categories of Ndigbo.”We have painstakingly carried out this survey among the various Igbo groups and opinion leaders, and everyone keeps pointing at one thing: Ndigbo need a leader that can reunite the people. They need a leader who has the requisite integrity to win the trust of everyone and reestablish a broad agenda for the development of Igboland. Our people sorely crave for a leader whose reputation, pragmatism and deep insight can reposition Ndigbo in national affairs and bring about respect to the Igbo Nation.”He must be a person who has in all consistency and sincerity made himself available to serve the ordinary people even in a thankless capacity. A person who has demonstrated a commitment to overlook earthly possessions to stand for his people. A person who is morally untainted and intellectually astute. A person who through charisma, character and courage has earned an unprecedented following, and who is altruistic and compassionate. These should constitute the personality traits needed now.”Out of about five persons which we have nominated for assessment, majority of Ndigbo have shown their preference for Prof. Chidi Osuagwu. We therefore urge him to make himself available to answer this call which Ndigbo are making to him for service. We are aware that it will take personal sacrifices, but we urge him to hearken to the voice of Ndigbo who have reposed so much faith in his capacity to make Igboland a prosperous place for this generation and generations yet unborn.”

We Must Resist It This Time Around; Government And Their Plans To Divert Opinion & Divide People Across Ethnic & Religious Lines.

FELLOW CITIZENS;

IT IS OBVIOUS THAT IN SUCH TIMES OF CRISES AS WE ARE CURRENTLY WITNESSING IN NIGERIA, THE GOVERNEMENT WITH THEIR DEEP POCKETS WILL GO TO ANY LENGTH TO DIVERT OPINION AND DIVIDE PEOPLE ACROSS THE ETHNIC, RELIGIOUS, AND EVEN REGIONAL LINES. We must resist this this time around.

They usually target and recruit those who have previously won our confidence and trust. We know some them as previously objective and driven by sincerity of purpose until they attract the highest bidder that will pay the Pipper and then dictate the tune.

HAVE ANYONE READ FROM ONE LANRE AYOOLA and his attempt to scatter the unity and the resolve of all the oppresed people across this land to end this oppression by introducing tribal sentiments and dangerous divisive perhaps doctored opinions about IPOB and Igbos especially in Lagos and with the brothers next door in the SouthSouth. This is a very dangerous adventure that must be vehemently resisted by all.

These guys are not worried about the years of neglect and impunity. They are not worried about recruitment of terrorists into the security agencies and armed forces, but they want us to focus on those who are victims themselves.

Lanre Ayoola and his co travellers are not worried about the killers and the insult that came as speech from our President. He’s worried about Nnamdi Kanu. What a maronic mischievous and diversionary attempt at this very challenging times. Lagos has been one city that the people have managed to live relatively in peace despite the politically induced pockets of crises.

The road and the trip to the Lekki tollgate started from the SouthEast and SouthSouth abinitio. The pythons and the crocodiles just arrived the toll gate and as usual paid the tolls with the blood of innocent Nigerians which triggered the avalanche of what followed.

And let’s be clear, as much as we disapprove of violence and destructions, nobody in Nigeria with an ounce of brain will deny that they didnt see the day the unemployed and heavily harassed and wounded Nigerian youths will rise up and say; ENOUGH!

How ethnic colouration came into this is better explained by those peddling all these old divide and conquer clichés that have left all of us completely debased and our country in a state of abyss.

All the world leaders including former presidential candidate in the US; Hilary Clinton called our leaders by name and asked them to stop killing innocent Nigerians. These leaders did not mention you and I. They did not mention Nnamdi kanu or IPOB, they did not mention Gani Adams and OPC, they did not mention Asari Dokubo or anyone of these guys and their groups who are considered victims of circumstances by those who wish to be objective and those with facts.

I doubt if these miscreants and ethnic gingoists know better than the international community that put the blames at the door steps they belong.

Let’s be very careful and guided accordingly. Let’s love and respect one another as we are all in this abyss together. We are all wounded. We are knit together by our common humanity and shared aspirations to the very best that we can be in the land of our fathers. Is that asking for too

May the brave souls of all those who have lost their lives rest in peace, and may those deeply scared by all they’ve suffered and witnessed heal and resolve to live and engage life fully as this too shall pass.

Gov. Hope Uzodinma’s Broadcast To Imolites, Brutality Can Not Be Cured With More Brutality

BRUTALITY CANNOT BE CURED WITH MORE BRUTALITY

My dear good people of Imo State, I address you once more on the worrisome state of affairs in our dear state. You were all witnesses to the carnage and mayhem unleashed on the state yesterday by a group of bloodletting despoilers claiming to be EndSARS protesters.

The callous murder of security operatives, the vicious burning of Police stations and the wanton destruction and looting of public and private concerns as well as the unwarranted harassment of innocent citizens, which marked the sad events that occurred in our dear state on Wednesday 21st, 2020, all point to the obvious fact that hoodlums have hijacked an otherwise peaceful protest by EndSARS advocates.

The state government is, to say the least, shocked at the level of reckless violence unleashed by these merchants of unprovoked bestiality .If these agents of death and destruction ever believed in the noble cause of the EndSARS protesters, they would have been minded to admit that they cannot seek cure for brutality with even more brutality. But of course they are on a different, vicious mission.

Their actions have set the state backwards as it will take a toll on the state finances to rebuild what they have destroyed. But those they murdered in cold blood will never come back to life. These are some of the grim realities we are forced to contend with resulting from the unpatriotic brigandage of a few .

The state government sincerely sympathises with all the victims of the vicious attacks and the families of the bereaved. Surely the long arm of justice will catch up with all those behind these primitive outbursts.

I urge all peace loving Imo people to remain calm and be rest assured that we shall do everything necessary to protect their lives and property. By now even doubting Thomases will agree with the wisdom in the government’s well informed decision to impose a 24 hour curfew in all parts of the state.

In the circumstances, the government wants to make it absolutely clear that the 24 hour curfew announced on October 20th is still very much in force. Security agencies have been charged to enforce the curfew to the letter. Curfew means that there is no movement of persons or groups either in the day or at night till further notice. This means that, there should be no movement of both vehicles and human beings in every part of the state.

I appeal and advise all law abiding indigenes and residents to stay indoors until the curfew is called off. It is important to urge our people to comply with the curfew regime for now.

Please be warned that anyone seen outside while the curfew lasts, will be treated as one of the sponsors or perpetrators of violence in the state.

Let me reassure the good people of Imo State that the government will do all within its behest to protect the lives and property of our people.

Sen. Hope Uzodimma

Governor, Imo State

As Arondizuogu Patriotic Union Gets New Leadership, There’s Need For Inspiration And Motivation.

🎺🎺🎺🎺🎺🍾🍾🍾🍾The recently held election of APU this weekend is arguably one of the most important events of the year. It produced a new dynamic LEADERSHIP if the antecedents of those chosen by the people to lead them in that capacity in this very crucial time is what to go by.This is true because in the words of the former Speaker of the US house of representatives; Late Tip O’Neal; all politics are local. The importance of this election is further underscored by the growing strategic importance of the town unions as they were the engine room that drove the very remarkable achievements of Ndigbo in all areas of human developments so many decades ago. Today the ASSOCIATION OF TOWN UNIONS “ASETU” is seeking to returning Ndigbo back to that unique Igbo home grown leadership and unique approach holistic community development which APU must spearhead in our community. So, I whole heartedly Congratulate all the newly elected officials, especially those who happen to be fellow ADI founders and members of the EXCO. It couldn’t have happened at a better time and who could ask for a better team👌🏾Let me also thank the out going administration of Mazi Chris Robins Okoro “Okoha Izuogu”. Mazi, your place in history is secured as You’ve led and kept Ndizuogu together through out the numerous challenges which you applied tact and wisdom that earned you that name; Okoha! God bless you and your outgoing team. Ndewoo.👏🏾Now the election of Mazi Peter Obiagwu, Mazi Emma Offor Mazi Chinedu Okpareke all of this ADI family at this very critical time in Nigeria and the world at large is not a mere coincidence. It is a kind of Referendum on ADI and account of their stewardship. The verdict is what manifested ar least this expression of confidence, trust, proven leadership based on clear vision and integrity on the part of Mazi Peter Obiagwu and the ADI leadership.👍🏽As it is rightly said; Ezi du mma, agaaya nga’na’abor. One good turn deserves another. And to whom more is given, more is expected.
Many are called but few are chosen. You are the chosen few as You’ve answered the clarion call of whom shall we send as you have now offered yourselves for service to the community and humanity. The voice of the people is indeed, the voice of God.

And let me remind the newly elected President General; Mazi Peter Obiagwu and his team, that the greatest leaders According to late President Ronald Reagan is not just the ones that did the greatest things; No! They are the ones that get the people to do the greatest things. Our people need to be inspired and motivated again to do the greatest things as those before us made such positive impacts with sime of the bold initiatives they pursued. Leadership is not a position but action.💪🏾There’s need to regain our confidence in whom we are. People of unparalleled pedigree and rich history. The very pioneers and distant first in so many human endeavors as empirical records and history will bear me out.

So, this newly elected leadership must seek to revive our great ancient kingdom; Politically, culturally, and spiritually while jealously guarding our very rich cultural heritage. They must articulate new and bold ideas as it makes a paradigm shift away from old APU idiosyncrasy of NWA’OKPURU mentality with lowered expectations. This is 2020 and we must evolve with the time. We must think and act big.So, I implore the new leaders to proceed to discharge their duties without fear or unnecessary trepidations. Even though the task is enormous and the challenges almost discouraging; from the very dilapidated infrastructures, security challenges, the dysfunctional social norms and the obvious marginalization we’ve suffered in nearly all the successive previous federal and state Governments. But these challenges are not insurmountable. The personalities that made up this team are equal to the task, especially as they have proven track records and have access to the huge human capital they can fall back on to pilot the affairs of this great community. There’s no doubt that their emergence will inspire so many who were previously ambivalent due to crises of confidence to come forth and engage this Apex body (APU) meaningfully and help it to modernize and better positioned to face the numerous prevailing challenges of our generation, as every generation is confronted with their own challenges in which they must emerge triumphant or suffer total defeat.
So help us God.Izuogu M’manu!

Governor Uzodinma Urge Imo Police Command To Allow Endsars Protesters In The State

Pursuant to the ongoing “ENDSARS/ENDPOLICEBRUTALITY” protest across the nation, Governor of Imo State, Dist. Senator Hope Uzodinma visited the State Police Command Headquarters to check the level of compliance as regards the dissolution/disbandment of the defunct Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).

On hand to receive the Governor was the Imo State Commissioner of Police, CP Isaac O. Akinmoyede, the Deputy Commissioner of Police Department of Operations, DCP Rabiu Hussaini, the Deputy Commissioner of Police incharge of Criminal Investigation Department DCP Musa Baba and the Deputy Commissioner of Police incharge of Finance and Admin, DCP Kenneth Akubue.

The Commissioner of Police welcomed the Governor to the State Police Headquarters which he said was remarkable and timely owing to the recent developments in the State and Nigeria at large.

The Governor informed the Commissioner of Police and his management team that the essence of the visit was to find out if the command has complied with the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Mohammed Adamu by dissolving the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), and also to brainstorm on all other issues relating to the security of lives and properties in the State including the welfare of the officers and men of the command.

Reports from the Police Public Relation Officer (PPRO) SP Orlando Ikeokwu said the Governor further directed the Commissioner of Police to allow and condone the protesters in the state, as it is the right of all the citizens to protest against genuine grievances as enshrined in the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The Commissioner of Police while responding, informed the Governor that the command had complied totally with the directives of the Inspector General of Police, as SARS in Imo State has been dissolved and all suspects meant to be released has been released while those involved in serious robbery/kidnapping incidents has been transferred to other units for continuation/conclusion of investigation.

He also informed the Governor that the command is partnering with the Force Headquarters Abuja to rehabilitate and re-orientate the members of the defunct SARS before they can be posted for any operational duties.

He further informed the Governor that the command is working in tandem with the directive of the IGP to allow and condone such protests provided they are peaceful, as such no form of force shall be used on the protesters in the state.

Finally, the Commissioner of Police took the Governor and his entourage to the office of the defunct SARS for “on the spot assessment”. This is to provide the Governor the opportunity to see for himself that SARS has actually been disbanded. To this end, no suspect nor Police officer(s) were seen around the SARS office. The Governor then used the opportunity to visit some Police facilities in the command including the dilapidated shell camp Police camp Police Barrack and Chukwuma Nwaoha Officers Barracks, He then pledged the state Governments unalloyed and unflinching support to the Police Command especially as regards to renovation of barracks, which he promised to take up immediately.

The Governor was accompanied by the Chief Judge of Imo State, Her Lordship, Justice Ijeoma Aguguo, the Attorney General of Imo State, Bar. C. O. C. Akaolisa Esq., the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Chief Cosmas Iwu, Chief of staff, Chief Nnamdi Anyachie among others.

Okada Man Rapes His Passenger A Student Of Imo State University Owerri.

Brutal rape rocks Owerri: ‘Okada’ rider tore my legs before savagely raping me – Imo Varsity student

The victim of the rape (name withheld) is an undergraduate at Imo State University who, according to her, used the last strength in her to lure the suspect out of crime scene in the bush to a village and raised the alarm before her suspected assailant was arrested.

Date of attack was Nigeria’s independence anniversary eve (September 30). The survivor started her story in a statement to the police, “On the 30th of September 2020 after I closed from work I am engaged in because of the Covid-19 holiday, around 6pm, a friend called me to visit him at Akwakuma by Ezeigodo Street.

“On getting to Akwakuma Junction, I called a bike man (Okada rider) and showed him the address.

“He told me he knew the location. I climbed the motorcycle and he sped off. “But to my surprise, he kept going for two hours and I started getting scared. “Later, my friend called and asked if I was close to his place. I told him the journey was becoming farther than expected”.

She went on, “He screamed and asked me to give the bike man the phone. “When I did, he told the bike man to return me to the junction that he was coming to pick me up.

“The bike man accepted, yet he refused to go back. After some time, he stopped in the bush and told me that he wanted to ease himself.

“When we got down from the bike, he started walking towards me. I was afraid, so I began to run, shouting loudly.

“But no one came to my rescue. The man kept pursuing me until I lost strength and fell down, sustaining bruises.

“He asked me why I was running and where I had wanted to go. He took my Samsung phone and smashed it on the road due to repeated calls from my friend.

“He loosened his belt and brought out his p****s and forced me to suck it until he ejaculated in my mouth.

“I wanted to spit the sperm out but he hit me on the hand, commanding me to swallow it.

“After that, he asked me to spread my legs wide open. Before I could understand him, he held my legs and tore them apart.

“With the force of a wild animal, he came upon me and had s*x with me without any protection.

“He brutalized my private part and my entire body. “When he was done ravaging me, he wanted to leave me there in the bush and go, but I begged him to take me to where I could get a taxi to my house.

“He grudgingly accepted to drop me at Ogbosisi Junction on the condition that I would not utter a word on our way.

“But when I alighted at the junction, I used the last strength in me to shout ‘thief oo, thief oo’ and he sped off.

“The villagers pursued him and caught him. One of the pursuers who identified himself as a soldier held the man on his throat, asking him what happened.

“The bike man narrated to him all the cruelty he did to me. The soldier slapped him and handed him over to the villagers who, in turn, handed him to the police in Owerri.

“There, he was detained. At the police station, the police took photos of my battered body and kept my soiled clothes in their custody”.

The victim further narrated that the police asked her friend – who had arrived by then – to take her to the Nigeria Police Hospital at Amakohia. “There, series of tests were conducted on me. One of tests showed the presence of dead sperm in my system”, she added.

According to the Right and Welfare of Traumatized Wives and Youths Initiative, a non-governmental organization following up the case, the suspect in the alleged rape case, Emeka Onwusoroaka Christopher, has been remanded in prison by the magistrate at Court 5, Owerri where he was arraigned last Wednesday on two-count charge of forcefully having carnal knowledge of the victim and robbery.

The case was adjourned to October 21 pending advice by Imo State Directorate of Public Prosecution, DPP.

Greedy Nigerian Professors And Their Fat Salaries | Oludayo Tade By Adebayo Abdulrahman

Greedy Nigerian Professors And Their Fat Salaries | Oludayo Tade
By Adebayo Abdulrahman – October 13, 2020

“What we are saying is that if the Federal Government would reduce its profligacy and cut waste, there will be enough money to pay teachers in public universities, as well as fund research and upgrade infrastructure in such institutions. Hungry teachers can neither teach well nor carry out research. And poorly-taught students can neither excel nor propel their nation to great heights” (APC Interim National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, Daily Post, August 21, 2013).

The perennial onslaught on public education has been taken to the next level by this administration with the statement by Minister of State for Education, Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba that the bulk of the national budget on education is used to pay the salaries of 10,500 Professors in the public University system. In his interview with the Punch newspapers, Nwajiuba averred that strike by University lecturers is a major factor driving students abroad and to private universities. In this piece, I provide available facts to put the records straight with regards to the salary of lecturers; and go further to argue as to why lecturers deserve appropriate wages that will guarantee value commensurate with what they give to the academic system and the society. In 2012 when the federal government carried out the needs assessment of the Nigerian universities, it was found that out of the 37,504 lecturers, 28,128 of them were full time and pensionable. Since then, there has been no major recruitment of academic staff despite the usual attrition on account of resignations, retirement and demise. This is what forced few academics to take up the burden of work meant for many lecturers necessitating the issue of earned academic allowances in the ASUU-FGN agreement of 2009. From 2013 to 2020, government owes lecturers Billions of naira but these lecturers have no right to complain over their duly earned entitlements in the wisdom of the government. The ASUU-FGN agreement of 2009 stipulated that a lecturer I is to be paid N15,000, Senior lecturer (N20,000) and Professor (N25,000) per annum per student for supervision. The lecturers now described as selfish and gluttonous are yet to be paid for several years of supervising students. An external examiner is supposed to be paid N80,000 for a Master dissertation and N105,000 for Doctoral examination. The internal examiner for the same purposes ought to be paid N45, 000 and N65, 000 respectively but these only exists in the agreement and have not been implemented for eleven years! In Nwajiuba’s wisdom, these are not issues to go on strike for.
University Lecturers are over-stretched and least paid when compared with lecturers in polytechnics and colleges of Education despite the fact that ninety seven percent of UTME applicants prefer University Education to Polytechnic or Colleges of Education. In 2018, 1,558,686 of UTME candidates chose University, 24524 (NCE) and 69712 (Polytechnic). Less than ten percent of degree pursuing applicants chooses private varsities. In 2009, both the Federal Government and ASUU came up with two salary tables (I and II). Table II was called the African average salary payable across the continent but government pleaded that the Table I which undervalues intellectualism should be used to pay lecturers till such a time the government is able to raise funds to meet the African average salary. ASUU’s altruistic disposition made the body agree to receive less while doing more work. Unfortunately, it is now eleven years of receipt of slave-like wage which assuredly will make colleagues in Ugandan public varsities universities cringe! The salaries of the selfish Nigerian lecturers by cadre are as follows: Assistant lecturer (N118,277 -N137, 334); lecturer II has a doctorate degree (N129, 724 – N153, 563);Lecturer I has at least three years post-PhD experience on the job (N160, 809 – N203, 778), Senior lecturer with at least six years experience on the job (N222,229 –314, 159), Associate professor (with at least nine years experience on the job: N277, 179 – N350, 169) and a Full Professor with twelve and more years experience on the job (N332, 833 – 416, 743). They get these after tax and other deductions. Before deductions, a newly appointed Full Professor has N437, 499 and after deductions he is paid N332, 833 monthly. A Professor “at the bar”, is one who has spent ten years as a professor and that is when he/she can earn consolidated pay of N555, 351 and following deductions their net pay comes down to N416, 743 monthly!
In Ugandan public varsities, Assistant Lecturer earns $1,631; Senior lecturer ($2,432), Associate Professor ($3,891) and Professor ($4,054) per month respectively. In University of South Africa, Junior lecturer earns (N10, 453, 326 – N17,427,663), Lecturer (N12,547,744-N20,910,248), Senior Lecturer(N16,272,983 – N27,891,819), Associate Professor (N20,224,232 – N32,564,902) and Professor (N22,325,844 – N37,209,741) per annum. Does this explain why we can hardly attract any international scholar to our public varsities? Mind you, the mix of international scholars and students is among the items considered in ranking universities internationally. Are you still wondering why South Africa almost always occupies the top spaces in varsity rankings in Africa? In South Africa, scholars have research votes and funds set aside to support participation in international conferences. For every publication in rated journals, a lecturer in the orange country is incentivised so also is the Department and the Faculty towhich the scholar belongs. So no one jokes with a productive and NRF-rated scholar in South Africa. They also pay for their scholars to publish in high impact journals to increase citations. In Nigeria, such funds do not exist in practice. That the University of Ibadan, for instance, still ranks among the best in the world is largely the outcome of the personal sweat of committed scholars in the institution and not because there is any special incentive system in place. Lecturers are even sometimes forced to take loans to attend international conferences because their institutions shockingly include it as a condition for promotion. It thus usually feels awkward to tell colleagues from institutions where conference funding is provided that you as a scholar from Nigeria borrowed money to attend a conference. Such is the character of the parasitic Nigerian system where the knowledge economy is relegated and personal interest is elevated. Is it not difficult to imagine that the former Interim National Publicity Secretary of All Progressive Congress, who is now Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed who uttered the opening excerpts of this piece is part of a government that does not believe in what he said in 2013?
While South Africa voted 396billion Rand to education in 2020, President Buhari’s2021 budget allocated 691.07billion to Education representing 6.7percent of the entire budget, a gross shortfall to the UNESCO prescribed minimum of 26percent. Unlike the lie of the Minister of State for Education that the bulk of the Education budget is used to cater for 10,500 Professors, the 691.07billion is to cater for 28 education parastatals, 37 federal Universities, 25 federal polytechnics, 21 federal colleges of education and 104 Unity schools! Know your leaders and what to believe from their statements. The government that cannot fund research also actively frustrate funders from supporting Nigerian researchers with their policies. Rather than releasing funds to researchers promptly, Bursars often have to go to Abuja for approval to withdraw. I am aware of grant funds that are yet to be paid for a year due to the bottlenecks of Treasury single account! Interestingly, lecturers with their poor wages now make contributions in order to donate printing papers to run their Departments. No functional internet, dilapidated lecture rooms, laboratories that parade equipment of the 1980s and comatose power supply all of which hinder delivery of qualitative teaching and research. The ruling class know this and train their children in the global north. At their return, they reserve jobs for them in NNPC, FIRS, and Central Bank. For the children of the poor, they are expected to join community policing recruitment exercise of the Inspector General of Police where recruitment will still be hijacked by the same political class. Whichever way, the masses are short-changed.
Only the children of the rich and those in government can go abroad not the children of the masses. Many of the latter write JAMB yearly but the want of space and dilapidated infrastructure as well as insufficient lecturers cannot make UI for instance take more than around 3,000 instead of about 12,000 which is the quota it has. Is it not sensible to reckon that with improved infrastructure, space for admission will increase and more people will get admitted? IPPIS is a distraction and not the reason ASUU is on strike. There are two options: support ASUU for the improved conditions of service and revitalisation of public varsities or support government to destroy public universities. The choice is ours!

Nigeria @60: Southern YOWICAN Chairman Charges Nigerians To Always Think Nigeria First, Contribute Their Quota For a Better Society.

Nigeria @60: Southern YOWICAN Chairman Charges Nigerians To Always Think Nigeria First, Contribute Their Quota For a Better Society.

By Samuel Ukwu.

Nigerians are charged to always be their brothers keepers as well as exhibit acts of patriotism in all their dealings with one another across the country and in diaspora even as the country celebrates 60 years Independence Anniversary and peaceful coexistence over the years.

The Chairman of Southern Youth Wing of Christian Association of Nigeria, YOWICAN, Barr. Green Nnabugwu made the call during a press conference of the Christian organization held in Owerri, Imo State capital on Thursday, October 1, 2020 to mark the nation’s independence.

According to him, “‘The Nigerian Project’ is fundamentally a daily patriotic call on all
Nigerians to take responsibility (no matter how small) in making the
Nigeria of today better than the Nigerian of yesterday. It is a lifelong national goal of moving Nigeria ever forward by Nigerians themselves”

“Seeing our great nation and fatherland Nigeria-turn 60 today’s is a thing of joy for us and we believe it is the same with many other fellow Nigerians both at home and in diaspora”

The Christian youth leader who decried the high rate of unemployment, poverty, killings among other disturbing stories, added that “The government of Nigeria should develop a policy of supporting indigenous firm such as Innoson Car Manufacturing Company, as such will enable them absorb the millions of unemployed youths in the streets as well as reduce the burden from the federal government”

Barr. Nnabugwu while speaking on the theme ‘Rethinking the Nigeria Project’ emphasized shared passion and mission for ever growing and transforming Nigeria to include total commitment and dedication to duties and obligations.

“The Nigerian Project’ is simply our collective dreams, aspirations and
vision of a better Nigerian society irrespective of our cultural, tribal,
religious, political, ideological, class, age and gender differences”

“It is an unstoppable cause that demands avowed commitment from every Nigerian towards securing a better future for NIGERIA”

The YOWICAN Chairman urged Nigerians as well as Christaian faithfuls to always keep hope alive for a better Nigerian society noting that things would fall in place despite all odds.

“The Nigerian Project touches on every aspect of our national life and
relies both on the government and the governed to thrive”

“‘The Nigerian Project’ is timeless and ageless. It is not initiated by or tie
to, or stop with any political era/regime, as it thrives on and lives on
with every generation of Nigerians (be it the past, present or the
future). In fact, every Nigerian is born with ‘The Nigerian Project'”

The YOWICAN Leader added that “‘The Nigerian Project’ can hardly make remarkable

progress if both as a people and a government doesn’t rethink, ‘The Nigerian Project’ and be able to see it correctly as what it is and execute it” while recommending that “Nigerians need to courageously make
mental, attitudinal, policy and structural shift on how we address some
key national issues like Unity and Peaceful coexistence, Security and Law, enforcement, Corruption, Youth and Unemployment among others.”
