Leaked tape: Okowa’s Aide Berates Tiwa Savage’s Supporters

Ossai Success, aide to Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, has berated celebrities and fans who showed support for Tiwa Savage amid her sex tape saga.
The Special Assistant on Media to the Governor took to his verified Facebook page on Monday to also state that the singer is yet to apologise to her fans.

He said, “Tiwa Savage is yet to apologize to us. I don’t see why people are standing with Tiwa Savage over an act of senselessness.
“I understand she might end up being depressed if the people who are standing with her speak against her but as much as we don’t want anything negative to happen to her we mustn’t support that senseless act.
“A lot of our young people look up to her and she ends up disappointing everyone. As she is bold to accept the Sex tape, she should be proud to apologize to us .
“We should stop supporting what is wrong. It’s not normal for two people to video themselves while making out . It’s an act of abnormality. By now, the video must have affected our young ones negatively.”
Sex tape saga
Two weeks ago, Tiwa Savage had revealed during an interview with American OAP, Angie Martinez of Power 105.1, that she was being blackmailed by an unknown person who threatened to release a sex tape that featured her and her current lover.
The Koroba singer revealed that the blackmailer demanded money from her so as not to release the sex tape but she has decided not to pay the money.
On Monday night, a sex tape leaked online. While the face of the man involved in it did not show, the lady in the video bears a close resemblance with Tiwa Savage.
As the video went viral, some celebrities drummed up support for the singer, as they uploaded her picture and hailed her on social media.
However, some celebrities like actress Georgina Onuoha stated that such supporters did a disservice to the singer by their actions.
Amid the saga, Tiwa Savage had said, “Charge that sh*t to the game and never speak on it again.”

BREAKING] Igboho: DSS Releases Female Blogger Lady K, One Other Detainee After 114 Days

After 114 gruelling days in the custody of the Department of State Services, two of the 12 aides of Yoruba Nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo, have regained their freedom, The PUNCH has learnt.
The DSS had, on July 1, 2021, during a midnight invasion of Igboho’s Soka house in Ibadan, Oyo State, arrested 12 of the activist’s allies and whisked them away to Abuja,

where they had been kept in detention.
After a long dilly-dally, the secret police, in compliance to a court order, first released eight of the 12 detainees on Monday, August 30, 2021, holding onto the remaining four.
Those earlier released were Abideen Shittu, Abdullateef Onaolapo, Ayobami Donald, Olakunle Oluwapelumi, Dikeola Ademola, Bamidele Sunday, Raji Kazeem, and Taiwo Tajudeen.

The additional two freed on September 3, 2021 are Tajudeen rinloye and Uthman Adelabu.
Amudat Babatunde (female) and Jamiu Oyetunji were freed on Friday.
The detainees’ lawyer, Pelumi Olajengbesi, confirmed their release to The PUNCH on Friday.
Justice Obiora Egwuatu of the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja had on August 4, 2021, granted bail to the 12 detainees.
They had met their bail conditions, including the provision of 24 sureties, but the DSS lawyer, Idowu Awo, had kicked against the bail granted by Justice Egwuatu to four of them, claiming that they were heavily involved in the alleged offence of arms stockpiling and other criminal activities of their boss, Igboho.

The PUNCH had also reported that the DSS filed terrorism charges against Oyetunji and Babatunde, a female blogger who did a Facebook Live around 2am on July 1, 2021, when the DSS in a joint operation with sister agencies raided Igboho’s residence.
Known as ‘Lady K ifeoluwa show’ on Facebook, the blogger with over 17,000 followers had turned on her Facebook Live on the midnight of July 1 during the raid of Igboho’s house by the Nigerian security forces.

Seated on a bed in a room in one of the apartments in Igboho’s residence in the Soka area of Ibadan, a fear-torn Lady K had made a 12-minute video, alerting the world that DSS operatives had “attacked” the residence of her boss.
In the video which is still on her Facebook page as of the time of filing this report, an alarmed Lady K had said, “Please share this video, soldiers have attacked Chief Sunday Igboho’s house. We are under attack. Nigerian soldiers have attacked us at Chief Sunday Igboho’s house.
“You can hear the gunshots. This is about 2am. They have been shooting for over 10 minutes now. I had to confirm it before coming on this Live.

I heard their gunshots from my sleep. I can’t come out now. They told me not to come out but alert the world through this Facebook Live.”
Igboho’s spokesman, Olayomi Koiki, had also alleged that the DSS removed the closed-circuit television in his principal’s house after the raid, an allegation the DSS has not denied.

Lady K was said to be a member of the media team of the Yoruba Nation arrowhead before the DSS arrested her alongside 11 others during the raid. The secret police also said its operatives killed two other associates of the activist during a “gun duel”.
In a suit marked FHC/ABJ/CR/305/2021, which was dated August 31, 2021, the DSS through one of its lawyers, S.M. Bello, filed five terrorism charges against Oyetunji and Babatunde.
The DSS alleged that Oyetunji and Lady K were in possession of firearms for terrorism-related activities while it specifically alleged that Lady K promoted terrorist acts through her Facebook account.
“That you Amudat Habibat Babatunde (f) adult of Okeara of Ibadan, Oyo State did use your Facebook account as a platform to promote terrorist activities contrary to Section 18 (1 &2) of the Cybercrimes Prohibition Prevention Act 2015,” count five on the charge sheet read.
The court has not fixed any date for the hearing.
But reacting in an earlier chat with The PUNCH, Olajengbesi had described the charges as “baseless, vexatious, shameful and without limbs.”
Igboho, wanted by the DSS for alleged arms trafficking, has been in detention in Cotonou, Benin Republic, since July 19, 2021 when he was arrested at an airport as he tried to board a Germany-bound flight.

Viral video: I Didn’t Damage My Friend’s Car For Being With My Daughter — Actor Charles Okocha

Popular Nigerian actor, Charles Okocha, has denied claims that he damaged his friend’s Sport Utility Vehicle after he spotted his daughter seating at the front seat cruising with him in the car.
In a viral video, with a caption, ‘Omoh!! Wahala happen for Lekki yesterday oh! Charles Okocha

Banks Still Stable Despite COVID-19 Pandemic -CBN

The Central Bank of Nigeria says banks in the country have remained “stable, robust, and resilient” in spite of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Director, Banking Supervision of CBN, Mr Haruna Mustafa, said this at the 2021 Financial Correspondents Association of Nigeria workshop in Ibadan on Friday.

Mustapha, represented by Mr Adekunle Adeniji, the Assistant Director, Banking Supervision, CBN, said the Capital Adequacy Ratio (CAR) rose to 15.21 per cent as at August,

Liquidity Ratio (LR) rose to 42.23 per cent.
He said the non-performing loan ratio improved from 6.58 per cent to 5.9 per cent as at August 2021, while banking system credit to the economy increased to 10.99 per cent between January and August.

Mustafa noted that the regulatory measures taken by CBN contributed to the growth.
He listed some interventions by the apex bank to lessen the impact of the pandemic to include reduction in interest rates to five per cent.

Others are 50 billion naira target credit facility for households and Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) and re-enactment of Banks and Other Financial Institutions Act (BOFIA 2020) to strengthen the regulatory and resolution architecture for banks and other financial institutions.

The director said CBN would continue to develop additional counter cyclical policy options that could be utilised in periods of stress.
Mustafa explained that macro-prudential regulation and supervision was more critical now than ever.
“We expect financial services to be provided more in a digital manner.
“We will continuously update and assess our prudential rule books and policy to strengthen responses to economic and financial shocks.
“We will continue to deploy effective stress testing methodologies to detect vulnerabilities early to enable appropriate pre-emptive action,” he said.
Mustafa explained that the banking sector had also sustained the growth of key economic activities, which were impacted by the pandemic in the agriculture, manufacturing, retail, healthcare, hospitality and tourism sectors.

Breaking: Israeli Prime Minister Holds First Talks With Putin

Israel’s Prime Minister Naftali Bennett visited Russian President Vladimir Putin for the first on Friday for talks expected to focus on Iran.
Naftali took office in June, following Benjamin Netanyahu who was in power for 12 years and had close ties with Putin.
Russian state television aired footage of the pair meeting ahead of the talks in the Black Sea resort city of Sochi.

Putin said the two countries have “unique” ties and hoped for “continuity” of the “trusting relationship” he developed with Israel’s previous government.
Bennett told Putin that Israel views him as “a true friend of the Jewish people” and praised the Soviet war effort in fighting Nazi Germany.

He said the pair will discuss the “situation in Syria and our efforts to prevent a breakthrough in Iran’s military nuclear program”.
As he left for Sochi, Bennett said Israel’s relations with Moscow are an “important element” of the country’s foreign policy.
This was in part due, he said, “to the million Russian speakers in Israel, who constitute a bridge between the two countries”.

The visit may be one of Putin’s last face-to-face meetings with a foreign leader before Russia’s new Covid restrictions come into force next week.
The Kremlin has said the 69-year-old will scrap in-person meetings during a nationwide week-long holiday starting October 30 designed to curb record virus deaths.
Last week, Bennett’s office said the pair will discuss Iran’s nuclear programme.

Moscow is one of the signatories to a 2015 deal that saw sanctions relief for Iran in exchange for limits to its nuclear capability.
Former US president Donald Trump withdrew from the deal in 2018 and reimposed harsh sanctions, leading Tehran to gradually roll back its commitments under the agreement.
Bennett told the United Nations General Assembly last month that Israel “will not allow Iran to acquire a nuclear weapon.”
Putin had congratulated Bennett after he was sworn in and said that Russian-Israeli cooperation would help strengthen “peace, security and stability in the Middle East.”

IPMAN Raises Alarm Over Imminent Fuel Crisis As Private Depot Owners Raise Prices

The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria, Kano has alerted the Federal Government over the imminent fuel crisis in the country following the decision by some private depot owners to unilaterally raise the prices of the product.
The IPMAN chairman Kano chapter, Alhaji Bashir Danmallam, stated this in a statement issued in Kano on Friday.

He said some of the private depot owners had increased the price of the commodity from N148 per litre to between N153 and N155 per litre since Friday last week.

He said the association found it necessary to alert the government in order not to blame its members if they increase the price of the commodity as they would not operate at loss.
“Some private depot owners are trying to sabotage the Federal Government by unilaterally increasing their prices even though the government has not raised the fuel pump price.
“We are equally calling on the Management of the NNPC to investigate the issue as some of the private depot owners have since Friday last week increased the price from N148 per litre to between N153 and N155 per litre. We know it’s only the Federal Government that imports fuel into the country.
“As I am talking to you private depot owners in Warri, Calabar Lagos and Oghara in Delta State have increased their prices. We hope the management of the NNPC will investigate and intervene,” Danmalam said.

He also accused the private depot owners of trying to cause a fuel crisis in the country by closing the depots as the end of the year is fast approaching to maximize profit.
He said the association would not fold its arms and allow such unpatriotic private depot owners to engage in unnecessary price increase while the public is always accusing their members of flagrant increase in fuel prices.

Mercy Johnson Blows hot as Teacher Bullies Daughter Over Celebrity Status

Nollywood star, Mercy Johnson-Okojie on Friday revealed that her daughter Purity, was being bullied in school by a teacher because of their celebrity status.
The proud mother of four took to her Instagram account to narrate Purity’s ordeal with her school teacher, stating that her child should not be victimised because she’s a celebrity.
She captioned the post, “What do you do when the teacher is actually the bully and your child the constant victim? Enough is enough, I have reported to the school authorities and I will see this to the end.”
The actress then narrated her child’s ordeal, “Since when is it a crime to be Mercy

Johnson-Okojie’s daughter? Before I consider myself a public figure, I am FIRST a WIFE and a MOTHER to my four kids, that is my priority in this life, and nobody can make my child feel less than who she is because her mother is a public figure.
“You can say anything about me, you can dislike or even hate me, I will not respond, but DO NOT ATTACK KIDS that did nothing to you and cannot defend themselves.
“The one thing I teach my kids is DISCIPLINE and RESPECT! I insist on POLITENESS AND KINDNESS from them, but I also teach them to SPEAK OUT especially to me WHEN THEY ARE BADLY TREATED!
“I do not honestly care if someone does not like me, I do not expect everyone to, but to take your hate out on my child? Unacceptable!
“A teacher at my child’s school has been bullying my daughter constantly for two whole weeks. She is not her class teacher, yet she shows up at her class everyday to intimidate her! Uses biros to flick her hair.
“She tells her to her face that she does not like her mother, tells her that celebrity kids are badly behaved, and she should not bring her ‘aura’, she should stop feeling proud, she should not bring her online drama to school. An 8-year-old!
“Purity that used to love going to school is terrified of going to her new school because of this teacher. Purity would greet her; she would not respond. Purity would report this to me every day, honestly, I thought she might be worrying too much.” (sic)

2023 Presidency: Atiku, Tambuwal, Bala Mohammed Have Shown Interest –Makinde

Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, has disclosed that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar; Governor of Bauchi State, Bala Mohammed; and Governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal, have indicated interest to contest for president in the 2023 general elections.
Makinde said they are among the “eminently qualified” personalities in the Peoples Democratic Party that can lead the country successfully.
The governor made this known while featuring on Politics Today, a current affairs programme on Channels Television, which our correspondent monitored from Abuja on Thursday.

Makinde said, “I make bold to say that the situation in this country today, the only way that you can stop PDP at the federal level is by dividing PDP internally. All the governors of the PDP are well aware of this fact and we made unity within ourselves our number one priority. Once the governors of PDP are able to move in one direction, align on most of the issues and the challenges we are faced with, I think there is hope for this country.
“The issue right now is that our party — PDP — has eminently qualified personalities that can lead this country successfully. Some have indicated interest, like former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, like Governor Tambuwal, like Governor Bala Mohammed. They have indicated interest. But the bottom line is when we get to that bridge, we will definitely cross it.

What is important at this stage, which I will solicit the support of PDP members and the generality of Nigerians, is please support us to have a successful national convention
“There is no way you can become anything — president, vice-president, even governor — if we don’t have a party. What we want to do first is ensure that we get things right within our party.”
Nigerians to determine PDP’s victory
On the possibility of the PDP took over power from the All Progressives Congress in 2023, the governor said, “Well, it is a question that I know Nigerians will answer and they will answer decisively.”
PDP not mounting pressure on Secondus
Makinde also denied that members of the PDP Governors’ Forum are mounting pressure on the outgoing National Chairman of the PDP, Uche Secondus, to withdraw his case against the party from the court.
He also denied having presidential or vice-presidential ambition in the 2023 general elections.

This is just as the governor stated that members of the PDP who have failed to deploy the internal dispute resolution mechanism of the party before dragging it before courts, especially towards frustrating the forthcoming national convention, should not be allowed to benefit from the party.

Responding to a question on the likely effect of the case instituted by Secondus on the forthcoming national convention of the PDP, Makinde said, “This is a democratic party. We believe in the judiciary. By all means, he can go ahead with his case. But we have mechanisms internally for the party to resolve issues within ourselves and I still believe that that mechanism is still there.”

When asked to confirm the report that PDP governors were pressurising Secondus to stop the legal action, he said, “We cannot put pressure on him. These are adults; these are leaders in their own rights. When you are leading a state, it does not happen just like that. No. You must have gone through a process. You must have been scrutinised by people of your state before you are deemed fit to occupy the status or position of a state governor.”
When asked about the disqualification of three PDP leadership aspirants especially when the party had once pardoned its members of similar offences, Makinde said, “At some points, you have to draw the line.

Yes, it’s people have been doing things in the past and they have been getting away with it. But there has to be a point where the party will have to say, ‘Enough of this!’
“You have the internal mechanism of the party to settle any issues that you may have. Besides, what exactly are we trying to do? We are trying to send a message to Nigerians: we are going towards the general elections in 2023 and we need to let Nigerians know that this is a party that will stand for discipline, unity, and a party that they should look up to whenever they are thinking of how to fix the problems that we are in. And we cannot do that in an atmosphere of impunity.”

Makinde also disclosed that he had settled with a former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose over the leadership of the PDP in the South-West.
“We have put all of that behind us; that was before the PDP zonal congress. We are done with the zonal congress. It has come and gone. I am going to be at Governor Fayose’s son’s wedding on Saturday,” he said.

According to the governor, it is the first time in the history of the PDP and political parties in Nigeria where a party is about to hold an elective convention, and out of the 21 positions to be contested, and about 16 have been settled through consensus including the national chairmanship position.
He said, “We need to tell Nigerians that first we are disciplined and second, this is a party that is ready to unify this country. What more can we prove? If all the various stakeholders across the geopolitical zones in this country; if they are coming together and saying that one of the basic problems that we have to face and fix from 2023 is the issue of (dis)unity in this country…we have never been this divided since I became an adult and started following things in this country…then, it is a big thing that we gave to fix.

And if we as a party are demonstrating that we can come together and settle our issues without going to the field to slug it out.

Hoodlums Raze Monarch’s Palace In Imo

Yet-to-be identified hoodlums have set ablaze the palace of the traditional ruler of the Etekwuru community in the Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area of Imo State.
His highlander jeep and properties were not spared as the attackers supervised the razing.
The incident which happened Thursday night came just 24 hours after youths and soldiers clashed in the community.
The clash led to the killing of a soldier and in a reprisal attack, the enraged military men burnt some houses in the agrarian community.

On Thursday night, the attackers stormed the king’s palace with explosives and when they could not find the monarch or any member of his family, they set his house and properties which included his official vehicle on fire.
The traditional ruler told our correspondent that he was taking refuge at the Divisional Police Headquarters located at Mmahu.
He said that he and his wife who were in the house when the hoodlums struck, escaped death by whiskers.
The monarch who said that he was rescued by police operatives, decried that he left his palace half-naked.
Calling on the public to come to his rescue, the monarch said that he had lost a lot to the attack.
In a text message sent to our correspondent, the monarch said, “At 10.30 pm of Thursday 21/10/21 hoodlums came into my compound, broke my window glasses, pour fuel into my rooms, and set my house on fire.
“They were shooting sporadically and I couldn’t find a way of escape with my wife and child. I started making calls to the police for help but the help could not come until the building burnt beyond control. My 4runner Jeep burnt to ashes.
“The police came around 11.45 pm but could not get the arsonists. I learnt it was those boys responsible for the killing of the soldier whose houses were set on fire by the Army on reprisal that are responsible for the arson.
“I left my house with only boxers as all properties in my house burnt. As the police arrived, I came out from my hidden point and discovered that the next building to my house is also on fire.
“I am calling for help from any good-spirited person to enable me to survive the shock, as I am now in the police station.”

Liberian President George Weah’s LETTER To Emmanuel For His Honesty

Dear Emmanuel:

I have heard in the media about an extraordinary act of honesty on your part.

It is reported that you recently found Fifty Thousand (US$50,000) United States Dollars and approximately One Hundred Thousand (LD100,000) Liberian Dollars which had been lost by a Liberian businesswoman who was passing through Nimba on her way to Guinea to purchase goods for her business, and that when she announced her loss on the local radio station and made an appeal to the public for the money to be returned, you willingly located her and gladly returned her money to her intact.

I am very proud of you for this exceptional sense of morality and good citizenship, and I hope that this will serve as an inspiration to all of our citizens, especially to our youth. You are a prime example of what the Bible teaches us in Proverbs 22:1, that a good name is rather to be chosen than great riches.

This honest behavior on your part is even more amazing when seen against the backdrop of your personal circumstances. I am made to understand that you are in the 7th grade with no money to continue your education; that you have no means of income except to occasionally borrow a motorbike from one of your friends when he is off-duty in order to earn a few dollars to sustain yourself.

You are a Champion, Emmanuel, and we are all very proud of you. Although It is often said that virtue is its own reward, I believe that you should be additionally rewarded for this virtuous act, which brought miraculous rescue and relief to a hardworking businesswoman.

Accordingly, I want to inform you that at the next national investiture ceremony, you will be recognized and honored with one of Liberia’s highest Orders of Distinction for your honesty. Additionally, I am hereby presenting you, herewith enclosed, an amount of Ten Thousand (US$10,000.00) United States Dollars, as well as two (2) brand-new motorcycles for you to improve your circumstances and sustain yourself financially.

Finally, and more importantly, I am offering you a scholarship for you to attend any school of your choice in Liberia, all the way to the level of a Master’s Degree. This scholarship is personal from me and my family, and will be valid whether or not I am President of Liberia.

Please accept my personal congratulations.

Sincerely,

George Manneh Weah

It is an indisputable fact from time immemorial that life in Enyimba city is like a hurdle full of complexities.
To unravel the complexities of life and survival standard in Aba requires keen and in-depth introspection. It requires the spirit of concentration and cognition.

Indeed, the current situation of Imo state has become so bad, and very difficult to comprehend. The rapid deterioration of affairs in the state which results to destruction, incessant killing, fear and progressive

militarization of the state should provoke and elicit great concern. No day passes by in the state without the drum of killing and shedding of innocent blood. Imo state which used to be the safest state in Nigeria has turned into an albattoir and theater of war. Life is no more safe. The Government of the day has lost grip of the security of the state. The Governor who is the chief security officer of the state has proved not to be in charge. Life in the state has become brutish, unsafe and uncanny because the Governor has refused to bend down and see Aba. It requires the spirit of introspection and cognition to unravel the circumstances of any situation.

The Governor must tell himself the truth. The progressive militarization and use of brute Force and kinetic approach can never bring solution to this ugly incident in the state. Rather what the Governor needs to do at this critical point in time is to bend down and see Aba.

Who can ever believe that the situation will degenerate to the extent leading to the rolling of heads of our revered traditional Rulers.

The insalubrious and gruesome murder of traditional Rulers in Njaba is the height of it all. Such a barbaric and callous act is not only sacrilegious but an abomination and ugly crack in our traditional institution. Indeed, Agwo no n’akirika . We are heading into a more dangerous precipice only because the Governor has refused to bend down and see Aba. We are now really in a war front. The Governor should rise up and order the withdrawal of military in the state. Use of brute Force and kinetic approach cannot solve the problem.

There should be immediate investigation and Community engagement to unravel the remote cause of the rolling of the revered heads of our traditional Rulers in Njaba.

The Governor should come down from his high horse and bend down to see Aba.

Ekweremadu Visited Gov. Fintiri Of Adamawa Over The Weekend

His Excellency Senator Ike Ekweremadu over the weekend paid a visit to the Adamawa State Governor His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Ahmadu Fintiri, in his company was his colleague, Distinguished Senator Aishatu Dahiru Binani (Adamawa Central) in the course of his two-day visit to the state.

In his words; I want appreciate the Government and good people of Adamawa State and Ndigbo in Adamawa for the warm reception and outpour of love. He said.

Ekweremadu Mourns Powell, Says He Is A Huge Loss To The Entire World

The passing of General Collin Powell is a huge loss not only to the people of the United States of America, but also to a world in desperate search for peace, security, and stability.

He saw it all: the first Black to serve as National Security Adviser, first Black to serve as Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and the first Black to serve as Secretary of State. He was a thoroughbred professional, public administrator, and fine gentleman.

My heartfelt condolences to his family, U.S. Mission Nigeria, and the Government and people of the United States.

May his soul rest in perfect peace. Amen.

PDP Convention: Rt. Hon. Ihedioha Supports Senator Anyanwu To Emerge As PDP National Secretary

His Excellency Rt Hon Emeka Ihedioha has draw support to senator Samdaddy Anyanwu as a consensus candidate for the post of the national secretary during the PDP Convention coming up On 30th October, 2021.

In a press release signed by his media aid , Chibuike Onyeukwu urged all his friends, party members and all who love him to support Senator Anyanwu. Below is the press release.

My attention has been drawn to reports in the media purporting that His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha CON is averse to the nomination of Senator Samuel Anyanwu as the consensus candidate of the Southeast for the position of National Secretary of PDP for the National Convention scheduled for 30th and 31st of October 2021.

The information is entirely misleading and should be disregarded.

It is noteworthy that Rt. Hon Ihedioha, last Friday, had a meeting with Senator Anyanwu shortly after Thursday’s meeting of critical stakeholders of the PDP Southeast, held in Enugu.

Rt. Hon. Ihedioha extended hand of fellowship and assured Senator Anyanwu of his support, that of Imo PDP and indeed his friends and associates across the country to emerge as National Secretary at the Convention and to succeed in office.

Let all issues, therefore be rested and nobody should play politics with it as it is not an issue in contest.

Senator Anyanwu is neither the problem of Imo PDP nor that of our state. We know our problem.

Imo PDP remains a united family driven by a common purpose. Any attempt by fifth columnists to cause disaffection, especially among its leaders will not succeed.

Late Col. Tanko Zubairu Was In Imo From August 23, 1996 – May 29, 1999, And Witnessed The Otokoto Mayhem, Imo NUJ Crises, 1999 Election, Etal.

By: Sam Onwuemeodo

The sad news of the death of Col. Tanko Zubairu came to most people in Imo as a shock. He died at the age of 74, at the Military Hospital in Kaduna. A very fine officer. That was on Monday, October 11, 2021. But that’s not the crux of this essay.

Rather, the reported death had elicited the enthusiasm or the interest to write on the coming of Zubairu to Imo State, as Military Administrator.

After a Naval Captain, James Nwabueze Aneke, had held sway from December 13, 1993 to August 21, 1996. In other words, Zubairu succeeded Aneke. I am going to cut the long story short.

The story that Col. Zubairu was a Christian from Kaduna State had excited a lot of Imo people. He was not only seen as a Christian, but as a “born-again Christian”. That was the story. The interesting tale.

Zubairu arrived the State on August 21, 1996 and left on May 29, 1999. And to the writer, his coming and stay in Imo as a MILAD witnessed three major incidents, among others. Historical incidents. Incidents that had become parts and parcels of the State’s story. The coming, the stay and departure of Col. Tanko Zubairi as Military Administrator.

Zubairu was barely one month in the State, when the Otokoto Crisis broke out on September 24, 1996. Imo people, especially the youths had stormed the streets against those they had seen as 419ners and kidnappers. Obviously, Col. Zubairu played along as long as the protest had lasted. The Security agencies in the State also played along. The rest is history.

However, Zubairu had set up the Judicial Panel of inquiry headed by Justice Paul Onumajuru. And also set up the Armed robbery and firearms tribunal headed by Justice Nnodum. The outcome of these Panels or tribunals will be stories for another day.

Zubairu, also had set up a Task Force on Recovery of Government Funds and Property, headed by Major Chris Ilouga. On March 10, 1997, the task force declared the former Secretary to the State Government, Chief Christian Obasi Irechukwu wanted, over Adapalm Cases. And Prince Amobi Ugochukwu over N16M contract for the production of security Identity Cards for pupils and students in the State.

On January 23, 1997, Col. Zubairu launched “Operation Storm”, a Security Outfit to chase the “remaining criminals” out of the State. So, the Otokoto Saga was one major incident that had made Zubairu’s stay in Imo unforgettable. As long as the Otokoto episode remains key part of the State’s story or history, Col. Zubairu would continue to be remembered, whether dead or alive.

Zubairu had chosen to describe those that led to the Otokoto Crisis, as the “Nouveau Riche who lived above the law”. The protesters had had a field day. That also made some people to accuse Zubairu of supporting the rampage.

The scenario was so charged and demanding that even Zubairu’s Predecessor, Navy Captain Aneke had to appear before Justice Onumajuru’s Commission of Inquiry to defend himself over the allegations against him and his administration. At least, he was accused of giving the “Nouveau riche” the freedom to be “lawless”. His administration was also accused of selling some State owned properties including Amaraku Power Station.

Aneke appeared before Onumajuru panel on Thursday, November 21, 1996. He took the whole day. And Chief Mike Ahamba (SAN), was his lawyer. The rest remains history. Aneke not only appeared, but submitted a 15-page written document which he described as “Memorandum”.

Aneke’s closing remarks stated, “I thank this Panel for giving me the opportunity to at least present my side of the story. I may not have reacted to everything that has been said because I was not in the position to know them all. I urge the people of Imo State to Judge me on facts and not on sentiments. I pray to God Almighty to visit this Panel with the Spirit of Courage and truth that they may do Justice to all in their findings of facts. May God’s Will prevail. Thank you”. The rest is equally part of our history.

Zubairu also witnessed the 1999 governorship election in the State, Conducted on Saturday, January 9, 1999. Prof. Engr. Chuka O.G Obah, the then Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri, FUTO, was the Returning Officer in that election.

The election was between Dr. Ezekiel Izuogu of All Peoples Party, APP, Chief Achike Udenwa of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, and Nze Mark Odu of Alliance for Democracy, AD. Both Udenwa and Izuogu were from Orlu Zone, while Odu was from Owerri Zone.

To most people in the State, Zubairu had sympathy for Izuogu of the APP. He wanted Izuogu to win. Like I had earlier stated, the general feeling or impression in the State was that Zubairu was a born-again Christian, not of Igbo extraction but of Northern extraction. Most Imo people loved him for that. And he wanted to add fibre to that general impression by supporting another said “born-again Christian” Izuogu, to win the election. But there was no empirical evidence or proof to show between Izuogu and Udenwa who was more “born-again”, than the other. But the impression, perhaps erroneous, was that Izuogu was more Christian than Udenwa. At least, in the eyes of some men and women. But obviously, not in the eyes of God who searches the hearts of all men and women.

So, after the election, the reports from the Local Governments were that Udenwa had defeated Izuogu. But several hours after the results of the election had been tabulated at INEC office in Owerri, Obah was delaying the announcement of the results.

The story had gone round that Zubairu had equally wanted Obah to tamper with the results in favour of Izuogu, even when there was no visible proof of the allegation. But Udenwa and his team didn’t want to leave any stone unturned. They went ahead to release the results of the election, local government by local government. Izuogu reacted and told Imo people to disregard the results in circulation.

In the results released by Udenwa’s group, PDP had 388,686 votes, APP 379,485, while AD had 13,501.

However, late on Sunday, January 10, 1999, Prof. Obah announced the results of the governorship election, with slight differents from what Udenwa’s group circulated.

In the results announced by Obah, PDP had 388,680 votes, APP, 379, 491 and AD, 13, 605 Votes. Udenwa won in 14 local governments, including Nkwerre, Owerri Municipal, Oru West, Ahiazu Mbaise, Njaba, Owerri North, Ngor-Okpala, Isiala Mbano, Ehime Mbano, Orlu, Nwangele, Ezinihitte, Okigwe, and Oru East.

Izuogu won in Ikeduru, Onuimo, Isu, Orsu, Ihitte Uboma, Mbaitoli, Obowo, Ideato South, Oguta, Ohaji/Egbema, Aboh Mbaise, Owerri West and Ideato North. This also has become part of our history. Zubairu was here.

Few hours, after the declaration of the results, Udenwa released his thank-you message, captioned “THE GOOD PEOPLE OF IMO STATE”. It was a 3-Paragraph release. He accepted the election results. Thanked Imo people. And extended his hand of fellowship to those he described as “my friends who vied for the governorship with me”.

As a Military Administrator, Zubairu didn’t, to an extent, take it easy with journalists in the State. On July 31, 1997, he ordered the Government House Correspondent of National light Newspaper owned by the Anambra State Government, Mr. Nnamdi Chukwujindu, to leave the State “with immediate effect because of security and explicable reasons”. Macdonald Amadi, had signed the letter as the Acting Chief Press Secretary to Zubairu.

The letter read thus, “The Military Administrator of Imo State, Col. Tanko Zubairu has directed that you should with immediate effect, withdraw your service as Correspondent of National light in the State, because of Security and explicable reasons. You will, please, comply”.

The Chairman of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, NUJ, Imo State Chapter, Mrs. Oby Eke-Agbai was beaten by Soldiers at the Government House. And the reason was that she had spoken critically against the administration at a Press luncheon at the Government House.

On October 3, 1997, the government was able to get Eke-Agbai’s Vice, Chief Val Okechukwu and other officers of the Union to Pass Vote of no Confidence on her and announced her removal as Chairman. In their release, they removed her based on 20 allegations and 24 of them signed, including some Chapel Chairmen and Secretaries.

The writer, yours Sincerely, as the State Editor of the Vanguard Newspaper mobilized the Correspondents in support of Mrs. Agbai. It was a tough media battle.

The 7th Biennial Delegates Conference of the NUJ held in Ibadan, from November 7 to 9, 1997. And the Administration had frustrated every legal step we had taken for the Court to quash the removal of Agbai as the NUJ Chairman to enable her lead the Imo delegates to the Conference. Our lawyer was the late Barr. Ndionyenma Nwankwo. The judge was Justice Orjiako.

The government gave Chief Okechukwu, the purported acting NUJ Chairman, one Coaster bus and all they needed to be at the Ibadan Conference.

Mrs. Agbai, myself, Jerry Ogu, Ndubuizu Ugorji, and few others, out of our pocket hired 18-seater bus that took us to Ibadan. Bonie Iwuoha was the National President of NUJ then.

Because we arrived Ibadan late, the Conference Committee had already cleared Val Okechukwu and his team and gave them tags as Imo delegates. But they were very unlucky.

On arrival at Ibadan, I briefed Kunle Arogundade, who was the Chairman of Lagos Chapter of NUJ then and a staff of Vanguard Newspaper. Briefed Comrade Joe Ajaero, from Imo State who was Chairman of Vanguard Chapel. Spoke to some of our Colleagues in Lagos.

Arogundade raised the motion on Imo matter which had had media hype. After he had eloquently narrated the Imo Case, he moved a motion that the Imo delegates that had already been cleared and given tags be stripped of the clearance and the tags given to them, withdrawn. While Mrs. Agbai would be given the tags for those she came with. And would also be allowed to address the delegates.

Accordingly, the tags were withdrawn from the Pro-government delegates and handed over to us. They came back to Imo highly demoralized and disappointed.

Agbai addressed the delegates and heaven was let loose. And in the Communiqué issued at the end of the Conference, the Case of Imo had paragraphs 8, 9, and 10. That was how she was reinstated as the Chairman of Imo NUJ.

Against the backdrop of this development, on December 5, 1997, the Management of Imo Newspapers Limited, where Mrs. Agbai was a staff, terminated her appointment. Mr. B.A. O Nnorom signed the termination letter on behalf of the General-Manager.

On April 9, 1998, Mrs. Agbai Conducted the Correspondents Chapel election and the writer won and became the Chairman, Churchill Umoren of the Punch Newspaper became the Vice-Chairman. Gerry Ogu of ThisDay, became Secretary. And so on.

Col. Zubairu called for peace. We agreed. We made peace. He commissioned us to write a book with the title, “Zubairu: The Restoration Years (1996 – 1999)”. Major Gen. O. Popoola, GOC, 82 Division then, wrote the forward. The rest would remain history, while We Shall Continue to Clap for Jesus. And may the soul of Col. Zubairu Continue to rest in peace. He had no dull moment in Imo. He did well to a large extent.

Zimbabwe Court Sentences Gay Couple To One Year House Arrest, Death Penalty If One Doesn’t Get Pregnant

High court in Zimbabwe has ordered a newly married gay couple to be put under house arrest for 12 months, and if by the end of the period, none of them is pregnant, the court will order death penalty.

“The natural law is clear. Man was created and given the obligation to procreate. Marriage is the cornerstone and pillar to that duty. Our African values protects the natural law, and if we are to bend and allow such, we must first be shown that this new, western culture will uphold the natural law and continue procreation”…

Sevilla Go Third On La Liga Table With Win Over Celta

Sevilla edged up to third in La Liga on Sunday after a second-half goal from Rafa Mir was enough to give them a battling 1-0 win away at struggling Celta Vigo.
After being beaten by Granada before the international break, Sevilla got back to winning ways with the kind of resilient, determined performance they delivered so often last season.

They edge ahead of Atletico Madrid on goal difference, three points behind early leaders Real Sociedad with a game in hand.
Celta sit 16th, with seven points from their first nine matches.
Mir was linked with Atletico in the summer but the Spanish forward joined Sevilla instead on a six-year-deal and now has three goals in his last four league games.

Sevilla went close in the title race last season but struggled for goals and if Mir can sustain this form, they should push Atletico, Real Madrid and Barcelona again.
Julen Lopetegui’s side now turn their attention to Lille in the Champions League on Wednesday as they hope to build on two opening draws that have left them second in Group G.
“It was a very important win,” said Mir. “We have a congested calendar but the team is on a good run of form and this game gives us confidence to keep going.”
Mir’s decisive strike came in the 54th minute and owed something to fortune as Suso cut in from the right and unleashed an effort from distance, which was blocked but deflected kindly into Mir’s path.

He slid the ball into the corner and while Celta hoped for offside, Mir was shown to have been level and the winner stood.

Chelsea: Tuchel Backs ‘Unselfish’ Lukaku To End Goal Drought

Thomas Tuchel insists Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku will end his worrying goal drought because he is so unselfish.
Tuchel’s side moved to the top of the Premier league with a hard-fought 1-0 win at west London neighbours Brentford on Saturday.
But Belgium forward Lukaku was unable to get on the scoresheet as his run without a club goal extended to six games.
That is a concerning statistic as his strong start to his second spell at Chelsea begins to fade away.

Signed in a club record £98 million ($134 million) deal from Inter Milan, Lukaku looked unplayable as he scored four times in his first four games for the Champions League winners.
But since then the goals have dried up, raising questions about a player who also flopped in the Premier League with Manchester United before reviving his career at Inter.
Lukaku tucked away Timo Werner’s cross against Brentford, only to see the effort chalked out for offside. Ben Chilwell provided Chelsea’s winning goal.
Blues boss Tuchel is relaxed about Lukaku’s recent barren run, praising the 28-year-old’s selfless approach.
“I am not concerned as I felt him a bit tired, and then isolated because we were defending too deep as a block,” Tuchel said.
“I felt him a bit tired. Altogether we produced a very strong 60 to 75 minutes, including Romelu and Timo.
“Both of them, Romelu and Timo, were too far away to help us escape the pressure. That was the problem, but I have no concerns.
“Normally the best thing is that he scores but he is very unselfish at the moment, looking for Timo in good situations.
“And we had him in the situation to score, it was a close offside decision.”

Former US President Bill Clinton Released From Hospital After Treatment For Infection

A former United States President Bill Clinton has been released from a California hospital after being treated for an infection that spread to his bloodstream.
Clinton walked out arm-in-arm with his wife and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton before greeting hospital staff and giving a thumbs-up when asked how he was feeling, CNN reports.
University of California Irvine Health Department of Medicine Executive Director Dr Alpesh N. Amin, who had been overseeing Clinton’s medical team, released a statement following Clinton’s release.

“President Clinton was discharged from UC Irvine Medical Center today. His fever and white blood cell count are normalized, and he will return home to New York to finish his course of antibiotics. On behalf of everyone at UC Irvine Medical Center, we were honoured to have treated him and will continue to monitor his progress,” Amin wrote.
Clinton had been admitted last week to the UC Irvine Medical Center’s intensive care unit for a urinary tract infection that spread to his bloodstream.

The former President, who was in good spirits throughout his treatment, had been treated in the ICU for privacy and safety, not because he needed intensive care, according to his doctors.
Clinton, 75, had felt fatigued on Tuesday and was admitted to the hospital after testing, according to his office. The former President was in California for a private event for his foundation, and Hillary Clinton went to the event on Thursday evening to “represent both of them” and then went to the hospital to be with him, a Clinton spokesman told CNN.

As of Saturday, Clinton “continued to make excellent progress,” according to his spokesperson Angel Ureña, and remained in the hospital overnight to receive further IV antibiotics.
According to a source familiar with the situation, the kind of antibiotic needed to treat Clinton’s type of infection had to be administered via IV and not orally, which is why he remained in the hospital.
The former President’s doctors said urologic infections are very common in older people, and that they are easily treated, although they can quickly spread to the bloodstream.
The 42nd President has faced other health challenges in the past. He underwent quadruple bypass heart surgery in 2004 and had two stents inserted to open one artery in 2010.

Anambra Poll: Don’t Elect Candidate With Open Grazing Agenda – Anglican Bishop

The Bishop of Ihiala, Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, Anambra State, Prof Israel Okoye, has urged the electorate in the state not to vote for any candidate with open grazing agenda in the November 6 governorship election in the state.
While describing the election of such a candidate as a time bomb, the cleric warned that any support for open grazing would lead to acute food scarcity.

Okoye, a professor of political science at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State, said this during the second session of the fourth synod of the diocese held at St Stephen’s Anglican Church, Ihiala.
The bishop described the debate on open grazing and allied matters as an unfortunate preoccupation and distraction from some fundamental issues on the economy, education, justice, equity, leadership and others, that needed to be addressed urgently.
He said: “Although cattle rearing is key in animal husbandry, its politicization and seeming treatment as a national obligation has attracted objection and resentment.
“The assumption that the constitution confers on cattle the right of movement on Nigerian roads and communities is untrue. Another erroneous stance is that cattle rearing is supported by the federal government, such that herders must be allowed to traverse any part of the country with their cattle as a guarantee for peace.
“Armed cattle herders now migrate with their cattle to any place of their choice, occupy forests without the consent of the government in charge to graze their cattle on people’s farms, where they kill, maim and rape women with impunity.
“The widely held feet-dragging of the federal government in arresting the fast-spreading dastardly acts of the armed Fulani herdsmen engendered ill feelings among the affected populations.”
Okoye charged the 17 Southern Governors to stick to their promise of ensuring the passage of the anti-open grazing law in their areas, reminding them that as chief security officers of their respective states, they owed their people the duty of protection at all times.

Avoid Using Makeup On Election Day, INEC Tells Anambra Women.

The Independent National Electoral Commission has advised female voters in Anambra to avoid using makeup during the November 6 governorship election in the state.
The commission said the advice becomes necessary because of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System the agency would deploy to capture voters’ faces during the poll.
The INEC State Deputy Director, Gender Desk, Chika Osuji stated this in Awka, Anambra State at a voters’ education and sensitisation forum for Persons With Disabilities And Women’s groups.

The programme was organised by the International Foundation for Electoral Systems, United States Agency for International Development and the Consortium for Elections and Political Process Strengthening.
Osuji, said “The BVAS will be used during the Anambra gubernatorial election to enable voters to use their fingerprints during accreditation at the polling units.
“I know many women may not be able to engage makeup artists due to restriction of movements; but for those who can’t do without makeups, we appeal to you to minimise the level of the painting. If we can’t read your fingerprints we can read your face, and if we cannot read your face, you are not a registered voter, and we will not allow you to participate.”

MTN Nigeria Gifts Subscribers Airtime, Data Due To October 9 Outage.

MTN Nigeria has compensated its subscribers with airtime and data due to the outage its consumers witnessed last Saturday. The Chief Executive Officer, MTN Nigeria, Karl Toriola, shared the information with subscribers on Sunday.
Toriola, via a video message posted on the company’s YouTube channel with its link sent to all subscribers of the network, apologised for the error.
In his message, Toriola said, “Last Saturday we had an outage that left our customers without connection for several hours. On behalf of the entire MTN team, I want to start with a heartfelt apology. We are truly sorry for the disruption this caused for so many in our MTN family.

“We know that millions of people rely on us to stay connected to their loved ones, to manage their businesses, to coordinate their lives. We take that responsibility and privilege, very seriously. That is why we are putting new measures in place to make sure we never experience anything like last Saturday again.”
He further explained the cause of the outage, saying, “Our technical teams have placed the cause of the problem to an error that shifted all over 4G customers to the 3G band. This overloaded the 3G band, causing a domino effect that impacted the whole network. Our engineers were able to resolve the problem.

“I know that recently, other technology companies suffered similar outages; I want to reassure you that last Saturday’s event is in no way connected to those outages. This incident was not sabotaged but a regrettable error.”
To compensate subscribers of the network, Toriola stated that the telecommunication company will refund its customers the airtime and data they purchased.
“While we work to strengthen our network to prevent any further disruption of this kind, we wanted to find a way to say sorry to you. Something more than extending the validity of all time-bound plans by 24-hours which we did as soon as service was restored.
“So, while we cannot give you back the time you lost on Saturday, we can give you back what you spent yesterday.

Every customer on the MTN network has received a refund of the data and airtime they used between 12 noon and 7:00 pm yesterday. We hope that this should show how much we value you, our customer. You are truly our most important focus.
“We all have challenges — each and every one of us; personally or professionally. What matters is how we respond. With you by our side, we will continue to improve and grow,” he said.

Police Resume Process For 10,000 Constables Recruitment

The Nigeria Police Force and the Police Service Commission have made arrangements to conclude the 2020 recruitment of 10,000 constables, which was earlier suspended.
The Force spokesman, Frank Mba, in a statement on Saturday, advised candidates to check their status on the recruitment portal, www.policerecruitment.gov.ng which will be opened from Monday, October 18, through to Tuesday, October 26, 2021.
The statement titled, ‘NPF, PSC set to conclude 2020 recruitment exercise,’ read in part, “Candidates who are qualified for the next stage of the

recruitment are to print out their examination slips, which must be presented on the examination date, Friday, 29th and Saturday, 30th October, 2021, at designated centres across the country.
“Candidates are equally advised to check their email and phone numbers for notifications.”
The Force, while reiterating that the recruitment was absolutely free of charge enjoined candidates to call 08100004507 for further enquiries about the exercise.
The 2020 recruitment became mired in controversy following the inability of the then police management team led by the erstwhile Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, to work with the commission.
Claiming exclusive rights to the recruitment of constables, the PSC had asked the Federal High Court to nullify the process already commenced by the Nigeria Police Force but Justice Inyang Ekwo, in a judgment, dismissed the suit for lacking in merit.
The ruling was, however, set aside by the Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal, which, in a unanimous decision held that the IG lacked the power to recruit constables for the Police Force, and consequently nullified the said recruitment.
Dissatisfied, the police filed a notice of appeal at the Supreme Court, which was subsequently abandoned following Adamu’s sacking.
A PSC official said the commission would commence the 2021 recruitment of 10,000 constables as soon as the issues around the 2020 exercise were resolved.
The source stated, “The notice of appeal filed at the Supreme Court elapsed after three months; the police didn’t appeal the appellate court’s judgment. The moment IG Adamu left office, nobody was interested in the case again.
“So, we are concluding the ongoing recruitment of 10,000 constables which started in 2020, after which we will start the recruitment of another batch of 10,000 constables for 2021 which the commission would fully drive.
“We agreed to conclude the 2020 exercise with the police because they have almost ended the process. We are making it known to them that after this exercise, the commission would take ov

Pandora Papers: Efcc’s Invitation To Peter Obi Confirms That The Agency Is Managed By Clueless,Analogue, Media Crazy Neophytes

ONWUASOANYA FCC JONES

I will not want to agree with those who suggest that the invitation extended to the former governor of Anambra State and 2019 Vice-presidential candidate is not another way that those who seek to perpetually hold on to the presidency of this country aims to blackmail potential Southeast candidates out of the 2019 presidential race, because as at this moment,

Mr. Peter Obi has not declared interest in vying for the presidency, even though he remains, in my reckoning, one of the best candidates for that position, anytime any day.

I would have found it difficult to believe that an agency like the EFCC which is supposed to be technology and intelligence driven would invite someone merely because his name is among the hundreds of names of world leaders, top businessmen and even religious leaders who chose to offshore their investments in territories where they feel that such investments would be safer and where taxes are less or completely non-existent, but, more than twelve hours since the former governor posted about his invitation by the anti-graft agency, there is yet to be a rebuttal from them.

While it can be argued that the information contained in this 12 million pages of document could be vital to security and anti-graft agencies in cracking some cases, especially given that the leaks contained in the Panama papers of 2016 provided vital resources to investigators in tracing cases of fraud, tax evasion, money laundering and also evasion of international sanctions, it was expected that the EFCC would have done its homework well by determining the source of the funds offshored by the former Anambra governor and when these transactions were consummated.

Okwute Ndigbo as he is popularly known is not one of those who jumped at big monies following their involvement in politics or government contracts. He is actually among the few Nigerian politicians with very structured personal finances and traceable income flows, yet, among the least ostentatious.

The Pandora Leak features about 35 current and former heads of national governments, about 400 public officials from about 100 countries. More than 100 billionaires, 29,000 offshore accounts and an estimated 32 Trillion Dollars in cash were revealed to be owned by these individuals and outsourced to financial companies in the British Virgin Islands and other tax Haven’s with the aim to hide these wealths or make them untraceable to them.

While we may have some moral questions to ask about this idea of off-shoring these assets, especially, as regards the morality of hiding away these monies while millions of our youths are jobless and poverty is rife in the country, the EFCC’s invitation to the former governor solely on this leak, is embarrassing to the corporate reputation of the agency as it passes its management off as being out of touch with present realities and not being serious with bursting and effectively combating official corruption but seeking media attention and public validation.

Before you search for something, you have to first of all establish that something is missing. Has the EFCC been able to establish that some funds belonging to Anambra State or Nigerian taxpayers were mismanaged or got missing under Peter Obi, hence, their decision to invite him as soon as they learnt that he had offshored his investments? If the EFCC were competent and sincere, they wouldn’t have waited for the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists to publish these documents before they start looking into Peter Obi’s records. But, like most Nigerian agencies and public institutions, EFCC might be manned by corrupt, unpatriotic and impulsive charlatans who lack the slightest idea about their job specifications.

Mr. Ibu: Legacy I want To Leave Behind, As He Turns 61

Nigerian comic actor, John Okafor fondly known as Mr Ibu is in high spirits as he turns 61 today. In his ecstatic mood, the funnyman revealed the legacy he wants to leave behind.

He further revealed that he hopes to die at 100 as his mother died at 90. Mr Ibu made this known in a video post via his verified Instagram page.
The actor said, “My name is John Ikechukwu Okafor. It is another God sent day for me. I have completed 61 years; Jesus! I cannot believe this, are you serious. My mother died at 90 years and I said I am going to go 100 years.

It is by God’s power not by any man. I do not know what is going to happen when I get to 100 years but I know that I want to leave a history in this country.
“I want to leave a history in this country before I die. All Nigerians, anybody that sees me, I wish you good age, ripe age. I wish you good luck with any business that you are doing. I wish you, good friends and wonderful friends.

That would be materials to your person. My name remains who I am; John Ikechukwu Okafor.”
Asides from adding a year to his age, the actor’s joy is not far-fetched as he revealed last year that he has been poisoned at least twice in his life by people he believed were close to him.
In a 2020 interview, the thespian said, “In my office, they brought the first poison, I took it.

I was falling around and nobody came to ask. Even the workers did not enter here even though they were hearing me fall around. I vomited something in my bathroom.
“They gave me the second one, The people that gave me are the people working with me. I swallowed another one unknowingly because I never suspected them until when God opened my eyes.
“They paid them and gave them enough money to make sure they eliminate me. All these plans are from my peers that are surprised that I can own some things, build some houses, buy a house in Lagos. They asked them to go and kill me.”

IPOB: Fast Ahead Of My Arraignment, Nnamdi Kanu Tells Supporters

Ahead of his arraignment on October 21, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, has asked millions of his supporters to embark on a dry fasting.
His counsel, Ifeanyi Ejiofor, who stated this on his verified Facebook page, also stated that Kanu was well.
Ejiofor said Kanu asked him to tell his followers that he was in a high spirit ahead of his arraignment at the Federal High Court in Abuja next Thursday.
He wrote partly, “Prominent among the falsehood desperately championed by mischief makers is the trending subject that our dear client,

Onyendu Mazi Nnamdi Kanu has been flown to China, and from China to Israel, and from Israel to Kontokatafi etc.
“We know the purveyors of these fake news and they are aware that their evil conspiracies are dead on arrival.
“Onyendu was equally amazed by the fake news that was making headline on some social media platforms that he was asked to sign any document before regaining his freedom. This is total falsehood and he is urging his esteemed followers to please ignore this falsehood.
“Above all, our indefatigable client is strong and tenaciously holding firm in spirit. He is ready for the 21st October 2021 appearance in court. This date is sacrosanct and shall remain so.
“Thankfully, the Federal Government of Nigeria is fully aware of this date, and more compelling is the fact that the detaining authority has since over a month ago concluded every purported investigation into the matter.
“Hence, no plausible excuse will be available to them not to produce Onyendu Mazi Nnamdi Kanu in court come Thursday, the 21st day of October 2021. You must all see him live and direct on this date.
“Our client, Onyendu Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, urges millions of his followers and supporters to continue to conduct themselves and carry on within the ambit of the laws, as you all have always done. More strikingly and commendable is the fact that your solidarity has remained unshaken against all intimidating circumstance, and for this, he is deeply grateful.”

No One Has Monopoly Of Leading Nigeria, Says Tambuwal

Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal of Sokoto State has affirmed that no one group of people, no matter their religious affiliation or tribe can arrogate the leadership of Nigeria to themselves to the exclusion of other people of the country.
He stated this on Friday when he received the National President of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Rev, Ayokunle Samson Olasupo, who paid him a courtesy visit at the Council Chamber of Government House, Sokoto.

According to him, “The leadership of the country is mutually complementary as Nigeria belongs to every Nigerian, and no one will send anyone out of the country, hence the need to remain together for the betterment of the country.
“The kind of leadership the country needs is one that will understand the issues of diversities and is inclusive in its approach to governance, without tribal or religious sentiments.
“Both Islam and Christianity have been coexisting even before the union of the country came into existence.

Those who know history said Christianity and Islam belong to the same root. Jerusalem and Damascus are examples of places where the two religions are being practised side by side.”
Tambuwal commended the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar and the CAN President for their efforts in preaching peace and unity in the country, indicating that Sokoto State is home to every Nigerian irrespective of religious, tribal or ethnic differences.

He explained that in pursuance of this objective of unity, all children of other Nigerians resident in the state who attend public schools are exempted from paying fees just as the indigenes of the state enjoy free education.

In his remarks, the CAN President, Rev. Olasupo said he was in the state to interact with the Sultanate, the government and the people of Sokoto State so as to find ways to overcome the security challenges being faced in the country.

Calling on Muslims and Christians to live in harmony, Rev. Olasupo condoled the people of the state over the loss of lives occasioned by the unfortunate incident of bandits’ attacks in some communities of the state.

UPDATED: EFCC Grills Ex-Kano Governor Kwankwaso Over Alleged N10bn Fraud

A former governor of Kano State, Rabiu Kwankwaso, was interrogated by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission for several hours on Saturday over alleged non-remittance of N10 billion pensions fund.
The fund was said to have been misappropriated during his tenure as governor between 2011 and 2015.
The Peoples Democratic Party chieftain reportedly turned himself in at the EFCC headquarters in Abuja in the afternoon, where he was subjected to marathon questioning.

He was said to have previously shunned invitations from the anti-graft commission.

It was learnt that the former senator was being investigated over a 2015 petition by Concerned Kano State Workers and Pensioners, who alleged that he violated the Kano State Pension and Gratuity Law of 2007 by failing to remit the pensions contribution.
Kwankwaso had allegedly directed that the pension remittances be used for housing development, which was later awarded to cronies.

About 1,579 houses built under an arrangement between the Kano State Pension Trust Funds, Kano State Investment and Property Limited and Kano State Housing Corporation Limited were allegedly awarded to the political associates of the former governor, leaving the pensioners in the cold.
A source said the PDP chieftain was still being held as at 7.38pm when this report was filed.

The EFCC spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren, declined comment.

Don’t Toy With Consumers’ Health, NAFDAC Tackles Substandard Packaged Water Manufacturers

The National Agency for Food Drug and Administration says it will intensify efforts at tackling issues of substandard packaged water in Kaduna.
The state coordinator of the agency, Nasiru Mato, said that the problem was to be blamed on some manufacturers operating without good manufacturing equipment.

“We have observed some packaged water carelessly sold in the market disregards basic good manufacturing practices required to guarantee quality packaging.
“Those who do not comply with the specifications will not be allowed to toy around with the health of consumers,” he said.
He added that the agency would continue its surveillance and routine checks to ensure adherence by packaged water manufacturers in the state.
He also urged residents to only drink packaged water that had a label and date on them.

In addition, Mr Mato said that packaged water was only fit for consumption within two months of production, pointing out that the agency’s continuous efforts at updating manufacturers on critical aspects of good manufacturing and sanitation had been very useful in making them maintain standards.
“We will also remain steadfast in advising the manufacturers on post-production handling of the products,” he said.
He added that the rise in temperature in the country, because of the impending dry season, could mean more demand for water in the coming days.
He added that the agency would intensify its monitoring to ensure hygienic packaged water for citizens to consume.
“NAFDAC in Kaduna will continue to work around the clock to ensure that manufacturers of regulated products in the state do their businesses in compliance with laid down standards, procedures and requirements.
“If there are any major or critical lapses and violations, then we will have no option but to apply the appropriate sanctions,” he said.

Fear Grips Benue Communities Over Missing Of Nine Villagers

Nine persons have been reported missing in the Ado Local Government Area of Benue State.
A source told our correspondent that two of the victims from Ijigban council ward went missing in September while seven other young men from Apa council ward disappeared on October 7, 2021.
The nine missing persons were reported to have left their residents for Abakaliki, Ebonyi State.
The source said, “The route where these young men went missing is the same area where communities in Ado local government have been having a protracted conflict with their neighbours (Ezza and Effium) in Ebonyi State.

We had reliable information that the two people who went missing in September and the other seven that went missing last week passed through the same route.”
The chairman of Ado local government, James Oche, confirmed the disappearance of the nine young men.
He said, “It is mysterious. We are still investigating to ascertain what transpired. It all started on September 11 when we received the report of two persons missing. It was reported to the police.
“These two people are from Ijigban council wards of Ado. We noticed that they were going to Abakaliki in Ebonyi State and they passed through a short route. However, we have been having issues with Ezza and Effium which escalated to our local government from Ohawu LGA of Ebonyi. We are investigating but there has been no insight into what transpired.
“On October 7, another report came to us that seven young men on two motorcycles going to Abakaliki to open a bank account left Apa ward but went missing. They were talking to their people until in the afternoon when their lines stopped connecting. It was confirmed that they got towards the crisis area.”
Oche said the two incidents were reported to the police but nothing was done about the missing persons.
While stating that the state governor, Samuel Ortom, was making efforts to ensure the return of the missing persons, the council chairman said the development had heightened tension in the area.
Oche said that he had visited parents of the missing persons and the youth in the area to appeal to them to remain calm.
When contacted, the spokesperson for the state police, DSP Catherine Anene, confirmed the missing of the nine persons in the council area.
She said, “The case has been reported, police are on their trail, it happened at the border of Benue and Ebonyi states.’’

I’ve Faced Several Sexual Harassments –Model, Favour Phillip

A fast-rising model, Favour Phillip, has said that she embarked on an initiative called, ‘Clean Up Nigeria Project’ because she is passionate about curbing avoidable man-made disasters.
She told Saturday Beats, “I am currently working on an environmental awareness project, which entails me creating awareness about man-made disasters and flooding.

I will be sensitising people to their environment and the huge negative impact flooding can have on their lives, if not avoided. My biggest inspiration is my love for humanity and impacting lives in Nigeria. While growing up,

I saw people struggle and suffer so much. They cried out for help and better living conditions but they were not listened to and this inspired my philanthropic activities.
“I have also done several outreaches on the streets, feeding both children and adults. I also shared foodstuffs in rural areas at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.

I visited prisons in Port Harcourt during the country’s independence anniversary and donated toiletries and other personal items while encouraging some inmates not to give up. Just recently, I donated writing materials to kids whose parents could not afford the items they needed to start a new class.”
Speaking on some of the challenges she faces as a model, Phillip added, “Modelling in Nigeria is not all rosy. One of the major challenges is that of being sexualised because of one’s looks and the stigma of people attributing one’s success to men, instead of looking at the real work one does.

I have faced several sexual harassments. The modelling industry is very competitive and demanding, so many models are willing to do anything, including selling themselves, to be successful. As a matter of fact, getting modelling gigs, winning pageants and getting endorsements is practically a call for sexualising oneself.”

The details of the move, he however said, stay between him and the President.

He spoke after his meeting with Buhari at the Aso Rock on Friday.

“I’m as free as anybody to do anything with my time. I’ve pastored a church for 33 years, now we raise new leaders. I want to focus on nation-building.

“The Office of the President is only one office, there’re so many other things we can do as people to support whoever is there to make sure that we do not go into retrogression but begin to make steady progress as a people. I’ve already communicated clearly, my future plans to Mr. President and it stays between us.”

A Federal High Court seating in Lagos has granted an order of interim forfeiture of 11 luxury items confiscated by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission from social media celebrity Ismaila Mustapha, alias Mompha.

The items, which include, luxury sunglasses, luxury wristwatches, and an iPhone 8 – were seized from Mompha when he was arrested by the EFCC in October 2019 at the Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport, Abuja.
Justice Lewis Allagoa made the order on Wednesday, October 13 after hearing arguments for an ex-parte application by EFCC counsel Chinenye Ugwoke.
The judge ruled that the order subsists pending the EFCC’s investigation of the respondents in the suit, Mompha and his company Ismalob Global Investment Ltd.

Mompha and his company have been facing a N32.9 billion money laundering charge before Justice Mohammed Liman of the Federal High Court in Lagos since November 2019.
The luxury sunglasses are a Dsquared sunglass, Tomford – TF586, Cartier – B17C76B, Montblanc – MB0045S, and a Louis Vuitton- Z1186E.
The luxury wristwatches are a Rolex Oyster Perpetual, Audemars Piguet, Audemars Piguet- J46220, XY Hublot – 1321920, and an XY Hublot- 924206.

The iPhone 8 bears the serial number C8PVF1LKJC6C.
As part of its argument, the EFCC told the judge that the items were “found in the possession of the 1st Respondent (Mompha), which property/asset is reasonably suspected to be proceeds of unlawful activities and presently in the lawful custody of the Applicant.”
The agency said a preliminary investigation revealed various intelligence reports linking Mompha with chains of internet/cybercrime activities.

Edo Gov’t To Immortalise Late Victor Uwaifo With Creative Hub

The Edo state government says it will name its newly-constructed creative hub after the late music icon Victor Uwaifo.
This indication was given on Friday by Governor Godwin Obaseki at the lying in state in honour of Mr Uwaifo at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium facilities, Benin.
“The creative hub which is going to be commissioned in the second week of November this year has a multi-million dollar sound system for use by artists.
“As a mark of honour to the late guitar boy, the government of Edo has decided that “our newly constructed creative hub will be named after Uwaifo,” Mr Obaseki said.

The hub has editing suites, a space for live shows, and a studio for movie productions.
“There will be spaces for artists in the developing acts. That is the least we can do for a man who changed the face of music in Nigeria.
“That is the least we can do for the man who composed the song, Joromi, that was the first song from Africa and from Nigeria to win a golden label as at the time it did.
“We will always remember Sir Victor Uwaifo for what he meant and what he represented. He represented Edo values which include hard work, creativity, and innovation.
“It is going to be very difficult for us to imagine our entertainment scene, our music space without Sir Victor Uwaifo. May his soul rest in perfect peace,” the governor said.

Comparing Buhari To Awolowo, Azikiwe Mischievous, Afenifere Slams Adesina

The pan-Yoruba socio-cultural group, Afenifere has faulted presidential aide Femi Adesina for comparing his boss Muhammadu Buhari to Obafemi Awolowo and Nnamdi Azikiwe.
National Publicity Secretary of Afenifere, Jare Ajayi, described the comparison as “mischievous and mistaken” in a statement on Friday.
“I am old enough to have seen our colorful and even swashbuckling politicians in action. I have seen the great Obafemi Awolowo. The charismatic Nnamdi Azikiwe (Zik of Africa). Shehu Shagari. Amino Kano. M.K.O Abiola. Bashir Tofa, and many others in action.
“But I have not seen anyone with the kind of attraction, magnetic pull, that Muhammadu Buhari has. And that is round the country, north, and south. People swarm round him as bees do to honey,” Adesina had said.
Reacting, the Afenifere

spokesperson said people are attracted to Buhari because he is the president.
Ajayi said, “For sure – and for various reasons – a person occupying a leadership position is always an attraction anywhere in the world.
“To use the instances cited by the spokesman to gauge the popularity of the President, we can say that those who met him at the airport on his arrival from a medical trip could be in three or more categories. Those who genuinely wished him well and were happy to see him back. Those who were there to be really sure that the rumour of his death they heard was not true. And those who always go to any place that people gather – especially when or where a leading figure is or will be present.
“To use the crowd that gathered where President Buhari is not only as a measure of his popularity is erroneous. Admittedly, crowd-pulling can be an indicator of popularity. But this is not likely now given the level of mistrust that people have in governments. The mistrust that governments created over the years through its various policies of alienation and disempowerment.
“From the foregoing, it can be stated without equivocation that the majority of the crowd the spokesman talked about would be those curious to see whether their presence and prayers could make Mr President to see that they are suffering and in need of benign policies from the government.
“Comparing President Buhari to Chief Obafemi Awolowo and Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe therefore is not only mistaken, it is mischievous, to say the least.”
Awolowo was a Nigerian nationalist, political leader, writer and a principal participant in the country’s struggle for independence. he is famed as the president who never ruled Nigeria.
Nnamdi Benjamin Azikiwe, PC, usually referred to as “Zik”, was a Nigerian statesman and political leader who served as the first President of Nigeria from 1963 to 1966. Considered a driving force behind the nation’s independence, he came to be known as the “father of Nigerian Nationalism”.

Biden Makes U-turn On Trump’s Asylum Policy

United States President Joe Biden’s administration is taking steps to restart by mid-November a program begun under his predecessor Donald Trump that forced asylum seekers to wait in Mexico for U.S. court hearings after a federal court deemed the termination of the program unjustified, U.S. officials said Thursday.

The administration, however, is planning to make another attempt to rescind the Migrant Protection Protocols, commonly called the “Remain in Mexico” policy, even as it takes steps to comply with the August ruling by Texas-based U.S. District Court Judge Matthew Kacsmaryk, the officials said.
The possible reinstatement of MPP – even on a short term basis – would add to a confusing mix of U.S. policies in place at the Mexican border, where crossings into the United States have reached 20-year-highs in recent months. The administration said it can only move forward if Mexico agrees. Officials from both countries said they are discussing the matter.

Mexico’s foreign ministry said in a statement on Thursday that it has expressed a “number of concerns” over MPP to U.S. officials, particularly around due process, legal certainty, access to legal aid and the safety of migrants.
Trump, a Republican known for hardline immigration policies, created the MPP policy in 2019, arguing that many asylum claims were fraudulent and applicants allowed into the United States might end up staying illegally if they skipped court hearings.

Biden, a Democrat, ended the policy soon after taking office in January as part of his pledge to take a more humane approach to border issues.
Immigration advocates have said the program exposed migrants to violence and kidnappings in dangerous border cities where people camped out for months or years in shelters or on the street waiting for U.S. asylum hearings.

Biden in March said that “I make no apology” for ending MPP, a policy he described as sending people to the “edge of the Rio Grande in a muddy circumstance with not enough to eat.”
After the Republican-led states of Texas and Missouri sued Biden over his decision to end the program, Kacsmaryk ruled in August that it must be reinstated. The U.S. Supreme Court, whose 6-3 conservative majority includes three justices appointed by Trump, subsequently let Kacsmaryk’s ruling stand, rejecting a bid by Biden’s administration to block it.

The administration has said it will comply with Kacsmaryk’s ruling “in good faith” while continuing its appeal in the case. The administration also plans to issue a fresh memo to terminate the program in the hopes it will resolve any legal concerns surrounding the previous one, officials said.

“Re-implementation is not something that the administration has wanted to do,” a U.S. Department of Homeland Security official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said in a call with reporters. “But in the interim we are under this obligation of the court.”
The official said the administration has taken steps including preparing courts, some housed in tents, near the border where asylum hearings could be held.

For MPP to restart, Mexico has said that it first wants to make sure migrants have access to legal counsel and that particularly vulnerable people are not returned, a second DHS official said.

A senior Mexican official, also speaking on condition of anonymity, said that while conversations have been underway through a working group since the August Supreme Court ruling, “there is no decision at this point.”

Biden has left in place another policy that Trump implemented in March 2020, early in the COVID-19 pandemic, that allows for most migrants caught crossing the border to be rapidly expelled for public health reasons, with no type of asylum screening. One DHS official said that policy will continue.

Mexico has also expressed its concern over this policy, the foreign ministry said on Thursday, warning that it incentivises repeat crossings and puts migrants at risk.
In a win for Mexico on a separate front, the United States said this week it will lift restrictions at its legal ports of entry for fully vaccinated foreign nationals in early November, ending curbs on non-essential travellers during the pandemic.

IPOB: How I was Treated In DSS Detention -Chiwetalu Agu

Veteran actor, Chiwetalu Agu, says his journey to the custody of the Department of State Services didn’t start well.
He narrated that officials of the DSS jostled to handle his case, adding that he was treated with respect.
The actor spoke during a welcome party organised by the Actors Guild of Nigeria.
Chiwetalu was released from Army custody last Friday, a day after he was arrested for putting on an outfit with semblance to the Biafran flag.

He said, “It didn’t start well but God took control. I was only buying bread for the poor. Soldiers came in and started scattering things.
“They said they are calling me in the office but they did not tell me my offence. Because they did not tell me my offence, I refused to follow them.
“That drama that took place was important so that they will know that Igbo are here. That moment of Upper Iweka till the time we got to the army barracks close to Zik Mausoleum, to 82 Division of the Nigerian Army and to DSS office in Abuja, nobody touched me. They treated me with respect.
“Every officer wanted to be involved in the case so that they can have opportunity to interact with Chiwetalu Agu.”
The PUNCH had earlier reported that soldiers arrested the actor around Upper Iweka Bridge in Onitsha for wearing an outfit with Biafra inscriptions.
Agu was reportedly on a charity mission to the less privileged when he was arrested by soldiers.
The Nigerian Army in a statement said that the actor was arrested “while inciting members of the public and soliciting for support for the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra”.

South East Stability : Ekweremadu Solicits Support Of Igbo Diapora

…Reassures the SE NASS Caucus exploring political solution towards Nnamdi Kanu release_

Former Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ike Ekwermadu, has enjoined the Igbo in diaspora to lend strong voice against violent agitations and also bring their influences to bear in the search for security and stability in Igbo land.

This was even as he gave reassurances that the South East Caucus of the National Assembly, which he is the leader, was also working towards defusing tension in the region as well as finding a political solution that would result in the release of the leader of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra, IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

Ekweremadu blamed the agitations by various parts of the country on a flawed federal system, injustice, poor management of the nation’s diversity, failure of the federal government to secure lives and property, and needless clampdown on self-determination agitators when dialogue and giving every part of the country a sense of belonging could have sufficed.

He, however, insisted that violent agitation was not the answer.

The lawmaker bared his mind in a lecture entitled “The Igbo in Diaspora: A Perspective” that he delivered virtually at the Igbo Heritage Lectures and Ugwumba Excellence Award event, which held in Pretoria, South Africa.

He observed that one of the worst things that could happen to Ndigbo at this time was to allow their homeland to be turned into a theatre of war.

“The injustices and marginalisations are palpable and must be addressed. But by all means, we must ensure the stability of Igbo land because only by so doing can Alaigbo (Igbo land) prosper economically and also elicit local and international support and sympathy over their plights.

“What has happened in Alaigbo in the past few months is odd, ‘un-Igbo’, and sacrilegious. Destruction, waste of human lives, and economic losses have been the lot of our region. In particular, the sit-at-home has hemorrhaged Igbo lives and economy and it is good the IPOB has said they are no longer interested in the sit-at-home. No wise man brings war into his home. Our people prosper on industry, commerce, and the informal sector. Most of them survive on daily income.

“Therefore, while we are at liberty to employ every legitimate and democratic means to press for justice and equity, we must all work together to condemn and end the violence, irrespective of whatever quarters it is coming from.

“This is a special appeal to Ndigbo in South Africa, in particular, to wade into the orgy of violence in Igboland and help to restore normalcy. Ndigbo at home expect the Igbo in diaspora to lead the campaign against violent agitations and insecurity in our region because threats to Igbo businesses, the peace, security, and stability of the South-East are threats to our very existence as Ndigbo”, he stated.

Continuing, he said: “As the intellectual bank of Ndigbo with extensive exposure to liberal and progressive democratic ideals, and access to international resources, the Igbo in diaspora are well positioned to elevate the intellectual content of the Igbo struggle for justice and equity.

“How best can we address the issues of exclusion, imbalances, detention of many Igbo sons and daughters in various correctional centres across the country, the issues of clampdown on unarmed protesters, and the challenge of extra-judicial killings in Igbo land without recourse to violent agitations?”, he added.

On Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, Ekweremadu said: “Let me also assure you that the South East Caucus of the National Assembly is not resting on its oars. We are working quietly and surely to address these issues, including finding a political solution to the Mazi Nnamdi Kanu matter.

“We did it before in the case of Chief Raph Uwazuruike in 2007. We also did it in the case of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu in 2017. And God willing, and with your support and prayers, we will succeed again in the matter of Nnamdi kanu to promote peace and stability in our region”.

Ekweremadu, however, enjoined the Igbo in diaspora to show interest in leadership recruitment in Igbo land.

“The Igbo diaspora must show more than a passing interest in leadership recruitment at all levels in Alaigbo. If possible, please, come home and run for elective offices. Those who cannot come home should prompt and support other candidates of their choice. The bottom line is to ensure that our local, state, and federal political offices are occupied by our best and those who have Igbo at heart. That to me, is the beginning of the real liberation struggle for Ndigbo because charity begins at home”, he concluded.

Paedophile Pregnant U.S Teacher Arrested For Raping A 15-Year-Old Boy.

A pregnant school teacher has been arrested in Florida amid allegations that she raped a minor aged 15, also a student of the school.

Heiry Calvi, who worked at John I Smith K-8 Centre in Miami-Dade County, was accused of having a relationship with the boy outside of school hours, and was arrested on Thursday.

Ms Calvi, who has been released after posting bail, was charged with a number of crimes including lewd and lascivious battery, child neglect, and contributing to the delinquency of a child, according to NBC Miami.

An investigation reportedly began in March after students at John I Smith informed staff about the relationship between Ms Calvi and the boy.

Among the evidence seen by officials were a video of the teacher and student together, as well as messages sent between the pair. They were also seen having sex in footage, it was alleged.

Doral police said the boy at first denied being raped but was told that under Florida law a minor cannot consent to having sex with an adult.

Rey Valdes, a spokesperson for the force, also confirmed to NBC Miami that Ms Calvi was eight months pregnant at the time of her arrest, although police would not “speculate as to whose child it is”.

Her employer, the Miami-Dade County school board, told the Miami Herald that it was investigating the incident and had removed Ms Calvi from John I Smith in March, when concerns were first aired.

The school board was reported as saying that it was “disturbed by today’s arrest involving inappropriate employee behaviour”, and that it would begin termination proceedings against Ms Calvi.

“M-DCPS will continue to review its employee trainings to ensure that our workforce is fully aware of the District’s professional expectations of them and their ethical obligation to safeguard children,” the board added.

An arraignment is scheduled for 8 November. It remains unclear if Ms Calvi has a lawyer.

The Independent has approached Miami-Dade County’s school board for comment.

Revisit Nnamdi Kanu’s Arrest, Detention Ifeanyi Ubah Tells FG

The lawmaker representing Anambra South Senatorial District, Ifeanyi Ubah, has called on the Federal Government to revisit the issue of the arrest and detention of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu.
Ubah made the call in Lagos, according to a statement by his media aide, Kamen Ogbonna, issued on Thursday.
The statement is titled, ‘Senator Ubah calls on Federal Government to review arrest, detention of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’.
The Senator, who is contesting the November 6 governorship election in Anambra State, specifically urged the Federal Government to critically

examine issues surrounding the arrest and detention of Kanu.
Ubah, the statement added, made the call during a stakeholders’ meeting in Lagos as part of his sensitisation and engagement with Anambra indigenes in the state.
He said Ubah’s team had robust discussions and exchange of ideas on various issues surrounding South-East development.
Part of the statement read, “In the course of the conversation, some youth leaders used the opportunity of the visit to express their sadness to the Senator over the raging issue of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s detention and pleaded with Ubah to intervene in the matter.
“The Senator in his response assured them that there are ongoing efforts behind the scene to find a political solution to the problem.
“He also promised to relay their message to the Federal Government with regards to the need to review the case and to treat the issue as vital especially since some opposition party players had cashed in on that, to create artificial insecurity in Anambra State and trigger voter apathy in the process as a cover for writing results illegally.
“It is our firm belief that this burning issue should not in any way be politicised, but rather should be given the due attention that it requires.
“We strongly believe that if the Federal Government finds a political solution to the Nnamdi Kanu issue, the present insecurity in Anambra State will come to an abrupt end as the politically sponsored bandits killing people under this guise will have no further excuse at their disposal.”
