
The Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA), Imo State Police Command Chapter, on Monday, 9th March, 2026, marked the 2026 International Women’s Day, themed “Give to Gain.” The celebrations began with a morning physical fitness exercise that brought together members of POWA, the Late Police Officers’ Wives Association (LAPOWA), and the Police Inspectors’ Wives Association (PIWA) to promote health, unity, and solidarity among women.

Later in the day, an empowerment programme was held to inspire and uplift women. The programme featured motivational talks and lectures focused on leadership, women’s rights, health, and economic empowerment.
As part of the celebrations, food items were distributed to attendees, highlighting POWA’s commitment to caring for members and supporting the welfare of women in the police family.
The Chairperson of POWA, Imo State Chapter, Hajia Abdullahi Mariam Bosso, delivered an address emphasizing the importance of giving back to society, supporting one another, and empowering women and girls to reach their full potential, in line with the 2026 theme, “Give to Gain.”
In his remarks, the Commissioner of Police, Imo State Command, CP Audu Garba Bosso psc(+), mnips, praised POWA for its dedication to the welfare and empowerment of women within the police community and reaffirmed the Command’s support for initiatives that enhance women’s well-being and societal contributions.
The event was attended by senior officers including DCP Hammajoda Barka (DCA), DCP Hamzat Abdulkadir (DC Ops), and DCP Danshuwar Abuja (DC SCID), alongside members of the associations. The celebration concluded with a renewed commitment by POWA, LAPOWA, and PIWA to continue promoting justice, equality, and empowerment for all women and girls.
