Imo Government Unveils Elderly Support Initiative

As part of the efforts to mitigate the socio-economic challenges faced by elderly citizens, the Imo state government has launched the second edition of Renewed Hope Initiative Elderly Support Scheme (RHIESS).


The event, which took place at the Imo State Government House, brought together, stakeholders from various sectors, including government officials, community leaders and representatives of civil society organizations.


In her remarks, Imo First Lady, Her Excellency, Barr. (Mrs.) Chioma Uzodimma, who represented the First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, emphasized the importance of prioritizing the welfare of elderly citizens.
She said: “The Imo state government is committed to ensuring that our elderly citizens live dignified lives, free from poverty and neglect.”
As part of the initiative, 250 beneficiaries received ₦200,000 grants each, while 100 widows from all 27 Local Government Areas received a ₦100,000 support grant.
The event also featured the provision of free medical checkups and assistance to the elderly citizens.
This initiative is part of the state government’s broader efforts to promote social welfare and reduce poverty among vulnerable populations.
