The Nigerian forces stationed in the region to quell the Biafra movement have killed numerous unarmed citizens there.
The killings typically take place during raids on alleged Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and Eastern Security Network (ESN) militant camps (ESN).
IPOB is driving the movement to carve up an independent state of Biafra from the South-east and some regions of the South-south.
For instance, on August 30, troops from the Nigerian Army’s 82 Division and 34 Brigade attacked the community of Orsu-Ihiteukwa in Imo State’s Orsu Local Government Area and killed three unarmed citizens.
