In recent times, our dear Imo State has been plunged into a state of skirmishes by enemies of the society who do not mean well for the ordinary and common citizens.
This situation however, instilled fear and panic in the minds of every indigene and resident of Imo State that“fright” has known us by other names and no one could no longer walk on the streets of Owerri without fear of being kidnapped or assassinated nor sleep in their houses with two eyes closed.
These ugly developments were borne out of the desperate and inordinate ambitions of some political elites to turn Imo into an empire.
A popular maxim says and I quote “Don’t let desperate situations make you do desperate things”.
Undoubtedly, their desperate actions have caused Imo State a lot of economic loss, under development and more worrisome is the loss of innocent lives whose spirits will continue to haunt them till Jesus come again.
Albert Einstein said and I quote, “Peace can only be achieved by understanding”.
These enemies of the state probably lack an understanding of the word of God in Romans chapter 13 vs 1 to 5 which says and I quote “Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The scripture in verse 2 says in continuance; “Consequently, who ever rebel against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves”.
Conclusively, verse 5 said; “Therefore, it is necessary to submit to the authorities not only because of possible punishment, but also as a matter of conscience”.
This is the word of the Lord…
As the Chief security officer of the state who is saddled with the responsibility of protecting life’s and properties, the executive Governor of Imo State Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma amidst all the challenges did not dilly-dilly in addressing the issue by engaging all security agencies and stakeholders to ensure the security of lives and properties.
As if that was not enough, he has also engaged in quarterly stakeholders briefing of the people of Imo State so as to update Imo people on how his administration is conducting the policy and affairs of the state which is a proove of the Senator Hope Uzodimma’s led administration.
The stakeholders forum also offered an oppirtunity for the government to interact with Imo stakeholders on all issues of germane concern and the safety of Imo indigenes is not an exception.
The restoration of peace and unity which Imo State was hitherto known for wouldn’t have been possible if the governor had not taken proactive steps which have today restored the peace, unity and tranquility in Imo thereby restoring the lost glory of our dear state that was eaten up by the cankerworms that do not mean well for our peaceful Imo.
We all owe our state a duty to promote the cause of its unity and integration and Senator Hope Uzodimma has shown dedication towards ensuring a peaceful and united Imo which should be encouraged by all well meaning Imolites.
We all have a sacred duty to champion a better society in which all Imolites would be judged more by their contribution towards building a better Imo and less by zonal or political affiliation. We must welcome every effort directed at helping our state Government build the Imo of our collective dream, a state in which the breeze of patriotism and unity will always tame the storm of disunity irrespective of our various political divide.
The challenges of insecurity that faced us were as critical as the actions of the ethnic militia and bandit attacks. Though, we were not daunted.
If our hope is actually invested in our government to right whatever wrongs done to us in the past,
then we should ask ourselves what our support system to our state since Senator Hope Uzodimma is not a magic wand that will turn an ugly face to princess charming.
JOHN F. KENNEDY said and l quote; “And so my fellow Americans, ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country”.
Our expectations are anchored in the confident belief that the future of Imo State, its development and unity rest on the survival of this administration and it should be encouraged by all well meaning Imolites.
The efforts of government institutions to ensure a peaceful Imo should not be sabotaged because the safety success, peace and development of our dear state is the responsibility of everyone and not the Government alone; therefore, in examining the capacity, success or achievement of our government to do both the possible and impossible, we should take into consideration our support system to our state.
Every one of us has a role to play in removing the obstacles to our peace and unity as a people. The unity of Imo people cannot be reduced to mathematical equations.
If government at the state, local levels and all political stakeholders do their part with the efforts of each one of us doing his own little bit with total commitment by both words and action, then our obstacles would be our stepping stone to the great Imo of our dreams.
