A serious fire broke out at Andorra’s Estadio Nacional stadium just a day before their World Cup qualifier England.
The fire started from the broadcast gantry on the other side of the facility which was quickly engulfed.
The stadium’s sprinklers were initially used to try and control the fire as thick black smoke rose into the air and towards the apartments situated closely behind the small stadium, Sky Sports reports.
Fortunately, firefighters were quick to the scene and reportedly have the fire under control.
The 3,300 seater stadium is fitted with artificial turf, and reports indicate that there was evident damage to the surface around the touchline and technical areas, straying around a foot onto the pitch, while one of the dugouts has also been partially melted.
Despite the damage, the Andorran FA have confirmed to journalists that the fixture against England will go ahead as scheduled as work continues to get the stadium back into a fit state.
