A PDP Chieftain and Elder statesman Chief Emma Okewulonu has lean his voice on the tension in the state caused by APC Chieftains and Orlu sons, his message for Peace.
I have observed with a great deal of concern, consternation, and indeed sadness, the ongoing disagreement between H.E Governor Hope Uzodinma, and his predecessor in office, Senator Rochas Okorocha, and their respective foot soldiers and supporters; principally over some piece of real estate located around the Akachi axis of Owerri. The ongoing fracas should also be of concern to all well meaning leaders and stakeholders in the Imo Project, because our people have a saying, that a goat should not be allowed to give birth while tethered, when a mature person is present.
While it is not in my place, nor my wish to delve into the rightness or otherwise of the respective antagonists’ positions and perspectives on the matter, it is nevertheless appropriate to strongly remind our esteemed leaders that there are formal, acceptable, and well established avenues for them to properly ventilate their issues, and to resolve them accordingly.
I wish to also remind them that the greater good of the people of Imo State, which ought to be the primary consideration, and of paramount importance to both parties, given the lofty positions that they presently occupy, is not in any way advanced by the ongoing imbroglio.
The disruptions and dislocations to the societal fabric occasioned by seemingly wanton disregard for propriety and due process can better be imagined.
It is with a great sense of responsibility therefore, that I urge the warring parties to kindly sheath their swords, and embrace the path of peace, so as to quickly restore the environment to its tranquil state without which no significant progress or achievement can be recorded in the polity.
It is only in a peaceful environment that the people’s welfare can be advanced, and their aspirations fulfilled. The whole world is watching our unfortunate and macabre dance. Let peace be our collective watch word, please.
The good people of Imo State want and deserve no less.
