On 25/6/2020 at Lodan Hotel by MCC Road Owerri at 1850hrs, SARS operatives arrested three suspects, upon credible information that they wanted to buy firearms and ammunition. They are: –
(1). Chinedu Peter ‘m’ 33 years old from Anakwe in Anambra State
(2). Igbogwe Chinedu ‘m’ 36 years old from Mgbidi in Oru East LGA of Imo State; and (3). Okechukwu Mba ‘aka’ Adamu ‘m’ 45 years old from Mbaise in Imo State. Upon arrest, the suspects confessed that they actually needed the AK 47 rifle for communal fight over lands. Consequent upon the confession, the SARS operatives on 26/06/2020 moved to Ogidi in Anambra State, at about 0038hrs, and arrested additional two suspects, they are (1). Tochukwu Igweagua ‘m’ 28 years old from Umuoji Idemili North LGA, (who sent the above named suspects to Imo State to purchase the rifles) and (2). Ikechukwu Awaji ‘m’ 39 years old from the same Community. The suspects will be arraigned in court as soon as investigation is completed.
Another Arrest was made on 17/07/2020 at UBA bank road, Owerri in Imo state at approximately 1030hrs, upon a distress call from police control room about robbery incident, the patrol teams in the Command were put on red alert and they responded swiftly prompting the suspects to zoom off in the Toyota Camry Car.
The arriving SARS team gave the suspects a hot chase where one Onuegbu Udoka ‘m’ 35 yrs old from Oguta LGA Imo state was arrested while the other suspect escaped. A brown envelope containing body creams which were taken from the victim and mistaken for money was recovered from the suspect.
The victim Mrs. Ngozi Amadi ‘f’ 26 yrs has identified the suspect as among the hoodlums that robbed her. The arrested suspect has also confessed to the crime, stating further that he was introduced into robbery upon his return from overseas by the fleeing suspect.
The car used by the suspects has been recovered to the station as efforts are in top gear to arrest the fleeing suspect. Investigation is ongoing.
Still on Robbery on the 18th of June 2020 at Rochas market in Egbeada/Orlu Road, Imo State, at 1500hrs, SARS operatives responding to a distress call from concerned citizens arrested one Emeka Melody 22 yrs old of Oka Ugiri in Isiala Mbano LGA Imo.
He was arrested while attempting to steal a car and kidnap the occupants (three children).
On that fateful day, the complainant Dr. Okorie Blaise of FMC Owerri, Imo state had gone to the above mentioned market with his wife and three children.
While his wife left the car and went inside the market her husband and children were left inside the waiting car. The husband left the car key in the ignition and moved to the passenger’s side of the back seat to relax.
One of the children occupied the front passenger seat while the other two occupied the back seat with their father. After sometime, their father dosed off only to be awakened by the noise of the children who started shouting at the sight of the suspect who entered the car with the aim of stealing the car and whisking them away. The complainant held the suspect and began struggling with him, as a result he came down from the car and tried to run into a moving bus suspected to be driven by his gang members but couldn’t as they left him behind.
Operatives from the Command quickly responded to the scene and together with the help of good Samaritans around, arrested the suspect who upon interrogation confessed that he wanted to steal the car and the children.
Further investigation revealed that he was just released from prison early this year after serving out his sentence in a case of robbery.
