Why I resigned my position as PDP State Chairman. Charles Ezekwem.

It was a horrible experience working in the party with Emeka Ihedioha and Gerald Irona.

I was maltreated by Ihedioha and Irona after I worked hard to return PDP in Government!!
Chief Charles Ezekwem Cries Out,Says He Was A Stranger In PDP

Apparently worried at the volume of calls and concerned expressed by people across party lines on his recent resignation, the immediate past chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party,PDP,in Imo State,High Chief Barr. Charles Babatunde Ezekwem ( Ikemba Okigwe) has said that despite his efforts in returning the party back to government house after 12 years,he was made a stranger in the part by few cabals.

Speaking to a cross section of the Media in Owerri, Ezekwem who thanked God for using him to return PDP back to the Douglas House of Imo State ,explained that his problem with the former governor ,Emeka Ihedioha started after the party primaries where he was alleged to have worked for Senator SamDaddy Anayanwu.

According to the Ikemba Okigwe who was a former Council Chairman and Development Center Coordinator,” I took over a party that can at best be described as a one man business, but to the glory of God I natured the party back to its normal status of Peoples Democratic Party”.

He noted that before his emergence as the State Party Chairman that Imo PDP was without a viable leadership and motivation which he said made the party to witness a mass Exodus of her members to APGA, which he stressed appeared an alternative option to many aspirants.

The astute progressive politician who has remained consistent with PDP since 2000 till date, maintained that he used his good will and ingenuity as the party chairman to convince most aspirants at various levels including,Samdaddy Anayanwu,Prof Jude Njoku,Chief Chukwuma Ekomaru among others that contested the governorship ticket with Ihedioha in 2018.

He declared that all through the period he was chairman that Ihedioha never worked with him as the party chairman, but rather preferred to be working with the State party Secretary.

The former party chairman who alleged that Ihedioha has severally held vital meetings of the party with Some selected leaders without his knowledge, also said that the former governor held meetings with PDP elected members without him in attendance.

Ezekwem ,further hinted that he has been severally humiliated in state government events, but decided not to complain.

” Where has it been seen or done before that a state chairman of a ruling party will attend a state function without a recognized seat ” he declared.

He opined that despite the intervention of former Governor Achike Udenwa whom he said remains his political leader, that he never enjoyed the privileges due to his position as the state party chairman.

Ezekwem ,who explained that he was never an aide to Ihedioha ,but rather the state chairman of the party ,stressed that all the threats of sacking him from being the party chairman by Ihedioha’s men immediately after the last supreme court judgment which they thought will favour was made open to him regardless of his personal efforts and sacrifices he made for the party .

He alleged that although his tenure will end by August this year, that Ihedioha and his cabal within the party has penciled down another politician from Okigwe zone to take over from him who will conduct the March party congress.

He noted that he rejected the Commissionership position offered him by former governor Rochas Okorocha, when they were dissolved as council chairman, because of his high regard for PDP and Ohakim who made it possible for him to be elected council chairman, stressed that the last plan of Ihedioha’s men were to pass a vote of no confidence on him and remove him shamelessly before his due date of August.

Ikemba Okigwe ,who expressed great sadness at the level if threats and ill treatment he received from Ihedioha as party chairman, said that in a meeting he was presiding officer that the party Secretary read out a resolution of suspending some party chairmen without his consent.

He declared that all his attempt and efforts to revise the suspension order slammed on those chairmen could not stand even when Chief E C Iwuanyanwu tried to make them see reasons with his position as the party chairman.

He disclosed that what the party did was to lift the suspension of the Ikeduru party chairman because of Iwuanyanwu.

“Gerald Irona, who was the deputy governor to Emeka Ihedioha, told my people that as long as they are following me, they will never get any appointment in government. After I worked very hard to install a governor in Imo State after many years of opposition I was treated like a stranger. There was nothing they were doing in the government I knew.

“I revived the party in Imo State and preached the message of free-and-fair primary. Imo people know and saw what I did but I was left out of everything they were doing in government.”

Ezekwem who maintained that he consulted widely before arriving at his decision to resign his position and as a member of the party, however made it clear that he does not belong to any other political party for now.
